How do you play .avi files?

jp by jpOG 2003 · Jan 16, 2004 · 58 views

I downloaded an episode of Seinfeld, an .avi file, and when I try to play it on quicktime it wont play, it says it cant decompress the file. How do i decompress it?

maybe you should get a real computer instead of using a LAMEO mac!

uugh! now i cant even play mpg files on quicktime. says i dont have the software to play it. this is stupid, i could just play them the other day. well i guess ill re download quicktime. maybe its because i had to reinstall the system because my computer is being awfully crappy the last few days.

In the meantime, try this:

Install DivX:
http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/

Install VLC:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

After that, you should be able to play it.

Quicktime can play AVI files, as far as I know. So you might be dealing with a DIVX, XVID, or MPEG file wrapped in the AVI.

If you send me the file (upload it to my ftp in the /upload folder), I'll tell you what you need to play it.
