by So my friend built me a computer but I need a monitor. I need the nicest one I can get for the cheapest price I can get it for. I don't care if it's used as long as it works. He is GIVING me the computer.

Tube monitors are getting cheaper as we speak because the market is trying to push LCDs, notice how many HP/Dell/Compaq/etc systems come with a monitor and the package is only like 400 bucks.
Highly recommend KDS trinton monitors if you are looking for cheap/quality, they use sony triniton flat tubes which are really great viewing quality.

Ah gotcha. I have no idea either. All the monitors we have ever had people have always given to us. Well except for my sisters but that is one of those tv/monitors flat ones so it was on the rather expensive side I would think.
