City of Heroes
If you like MMORPG's but can't stand the fact that you need to invest 2+ hours per play time in order to acomplish anything (ala EQ) then CoH is the game for you. It's easy to log in for 15-20 minutes and still accomplish something. Travel is easy and quick and the game is fun.
If you're not familiar with City of Heroes it's a game where you create and play a super hero in Paragon City, MD. Unlike you're typical RPG the archtypes in this game are all different. There are 5 basic classes (scrapper, tanker, blaster, controller, defender) but they each choose from several different pools available to them. So not every tanker or blaster is the same. The costumes you're super hero can wear are amazing, it's so customizable.
This week they released issue #3, a free expansion which contains a lot of new enhancements to the game. It's a lot of fun to play, even for a short period of time, and with the different classes available it's not boring at all. Loot is done different then any other game, it really removes all chances of arguing over loot.

I just bought this game and I'm really exciting about playing! I've been eye-ing it for a while even though MMORPGs aren't really my thing.
So excited totally didn't read the whole it costs money to play. Thats ghey.
haha.. that sucks
Guild Wars is free.
As is Morrowind.
Yah..I think I'm gonna return it, it's not really what I thought it was. But this may be a pain cause I already registered it even tho I haven't even turned the game on yet :(
my cousin was playing this when it first came out. He showed me a picture in this gaming mag how there was this group of people known as "gay-mers" and two of them designed their characters to look like the ambiguously gay duo...
From SNL?
I'm not a computer game fan but I was in Best Buy and saw this and thought about picking it up. Maybe I will..I <3 Super Heroes!
this game looks pretty neat. I've always been curiosa.
Are you actively playing this? I have thought about checking it out a few times...
What's the monthly fee?
Do they have villians in it yet?
How do quests work?
Actively, at least once a week, I try to get on more but sometimes things get in the way. I play on the server Virtue.
I think the monthly fee is like $15.
The villians are not playable yet. There are several different villian NPC groups with in the game. All the quests are part of a story arc for the different groups. The expansion, City of Villans is scheduled to be released in August I believe. I'm not sure how they will work that. If you'll be able to change your current hero into a villian or if you have to start over as a villian. At that point PvP will be implemented.
Quests work like this. The game starts you are told to meet a certain contact. After speaking with a contact you will be given a mission. The mission can be patrolling the city (visiting 5 different locations with in a zone), arresting 10 bad guys of a certain gang, or going into a mission door where you will have to defeat every gang member within the mission, sometimes also having to find certain clues with in it. After completing the mission you return to your contact for another one. Many times the different missions follow a story arc. I started a story arc at level 1 and didn't complete it until about level 18 or so. After doing a few missions your contact will tell you there is someone they would like you to meet. This is when you are introduced to another contact.
There are also badges with in the game. These badges are like trophies and titles you get along the way. There are exploration badges (for visiting certain spots in game), accomplishment, acheivements, and history badges. You have to defeat certain bosses to get a certain badge. Some missions can be done alone, some you need a partner, and some you need a full 8 team group and you might have to all click on a certain object at the same time in order to complete the mission. This was the case for the Transcendence mission. I haven't beaten mine yet but I did assist someone else with theirs, it was a lot of fun. It completes another story arc and you receive a badge for it.
There are also Task Forces you can join. There are task forces ranging for every 10 levels. The first task force I was part of was at level 12 I beleive. In the task force you form a group and are sent out to assist the city with a specific story arc. Usually it lasts about 10 total missions. If members log out with out quiting the task force they will still remain in the task force when they log back in, so long as the task force is still there. If people leave the task force the missions are adjusted in difficulty so the remaining team members can complete it. So long as you weren't actively in a mission at the time. My first task force I was on lasted 12 hours, I think that was just a fluke and we ran into issues through out it. My second task force lasted 5 hours. You get a badge for completing task forces from different level ranges.
You can only have 3 active missions at one time. So you won't be able to receive another mission until you complete one of the current missions you have.
I think that covers about everything. Any other questions let me know.
Oh, you can have a sidekick in this game as well. So if you started at level 1 I could make you my sidekick to my level 21 which would make you fight at the level of 20 when you are near me. It's a pretty cool feature.
