Joel On Software : Book Review : Website

yay by yayOG 2004 · Feb 16, 2005 · 22 views

I got the book "Joel On Software" by Joel Spolsky. If you're looking to increase your ability at managing software projects, or managing software engineers, definitely pick up this book. It's a very easy, lighthearted, humorous read with much insight into project management, estimates, functional specifications (not technical). Not biased into any one language or platform (although more MS flavored than *nix/apple).

The book is actually a compilation of his best entries in his personal web log, and to get a taste of the nature of the book visit http://joelonsoftware.com

I'm also planning on picking up his book about developing User Interfaces, which the first couple of chapters are also on his website. Very entertaining.

This book helped a lot because it talks about the hard truth that many companies don't perform the way they should, and even if they don't, you can still take steps to developing good management traits and persaude others as well.
