Hey guys!
I'm teaching myself game programming with C#.net and the Managed DirectX 9 API's.
I have a small app that is taking baby steps toward usefullness as i create my classes, but I was wondering if anyone else here has done or is interested in this stuff.
PS - if anyone knows of any good freeware modelers or likes to make models let me know!

really interesting. send us source code! or you could always put it up on SourceForge.net and let others work on it with you.
The amount of coders doing the same is overwhelming. flipcode.com, gamedev.net, etc.
It takes a considerable amount of time and effort to either finish or get near playable/enjoyable. Look at any popular game, you have teams and teams of people.
I'd kill to be a tester. Just sit around playing games all day and taking notes on the problems and exploits in them. Then offering ideas for improvements. Man, I'd love to get in on that.
so would i. i'd be an excellant game tester.
and potato chip taster
i don't like patato chips. i'd be a good nacho tester. or just a good mexican food tester, for that matter.
I read a report about how hard it is to be a game tester. Countless hours, sleepless days filled only with video games. You lose most of your friends, develop a gut, and get hooked on snack food and coffee. Now, if I could be a PART-TIME game tester, and not have to play any of the demo(nized) games, I'd be down for that.
haha I would just want to do those racing and mafia games. I am not into Resident Evil though. Not really into sports games much either. Right now I really like Halo and GTA still. I also have a thing for Gran Turismo games. I would like to develop a new game where you race classic muscle cars back in the 70's and stuff.
aaarrrghghggh I miss playing computer games!!! my computer has been packed away for the last 2 months. I can't wait till I move into my place in 2 weeks so I can finish Tron 2.0!!! such a good game.
really?! Tron 2.0 is good?
it's gotten great reviews. like best single player game of the year and stuff. i'm looking forward to it.
plus, it's all computer stuff, like bytes, viruses and hard drives!!!
yeah, it's sweet. not your average first-person shooter. graphics are very stylish.
you think so ? i played it half way.. i didn't like it too much. does it get better? i dont know..
it was kinda sluggish..

I thought it was an awesome concept
I love Gran Turismo games, and Halo and Unreal Tournament. I can't get enough. I do like the "mafia" sort, but I've banned myself from them...in an initial attempt to escape their powerful grip on me. Trying to curb my violence intake, y'know?
Theres a lot of sites (sorry don't have those links with me) that have free models you can use, a lot of them you can even just extract from games if you need test models.
Wow, I'm suprised to see someone else developing using the DX9 SDK... or developing for that matter in a C derivative
I used to program C++ DXD3D, starting working on a 2d/3d rpg with another artist but I became to overlly engulfed in trying to make a portable graphics engine framework that encoupled *nix and win32 with OpenGL or DX, unfortunately I have too many things going on and not enough time to accomplish everything I would like to do.
If you need help with something let me know....
sounds pretty funny man...
Right now i'm working towards an online rpg that i think will be awsome. If i can ever get it to a decent point.
Right now I have a trailing camera object written that automatically swings and follows a focal point that i can give it(the main characters (x,y,z) coordinates). It's pretty neat, all self contained too.
I also have a character object with labels that float over their heads started, but the mesh is just a simple cube for testing purposes... animation and everything will come later.
-next i want to implement music... the quietness is boring ;)
-then network play, so lots of little squares can run around
-then implement chat using word bubbles that show over the characters (cubes)
-I guess i have to implement some sort of collision detection eventually too...
What do you guys think would be cool in a multiplayer rpg?
definitely if you could insert some of that pump up music from the Rocky movies. That would definitely be awesome. Check out the old Sega Genesis Sonic the HEdgehog songs. THose were always pretty cool too.
definitely interaction between characters based on tickling. you get points. for tickling. and if you win, you become a master tickler with a giant slip n'slide into the ocean. but first you cover yourself in baby oil.
what kind of fetish game is this?
Sounds interesting, too bad I can't program to save my life. But if you need ideas and eventual beta testers let me know. :) I've played a few RPG's and MMORPG's. :)
yeah you probably would be good at writing up some new stuff
Me and my friends have this idea where we want to make a video game about people in our hall. We already did it a while back with Playstations WWF Attitude. We created a lot of wrestlers to look like people in our hall. Anyways we have this crazy idea for a game sort of like Grand Theft Auto except not as violent. Like some people in our hall run businesses and have certain things about them that make them unique. Like this one sister who always makes tacos for dinner and we were thinking it would be fun if she had a van that she drove around in selling tacos. Then we have this guy who drives his bike everywhere. One of his jobs is being a paperboy. We thought it would be funny to see him like do a scene out of the video game paperboy and break peoples windows and stuff. Anyways theres a lot more to it. But hey if anyone wants to know I am more than happy to share.
