Run As Fast As You Can.....
....You cant catch me i'm the gingerbread man!
Okay, so how do you feel about running? i hate it. so much. but i've been doing it for the past week, every morning. what i want to know is: how long does it take before you stop hating it? i mean, is it just like, when it becomes a habbit and you feel good doing it? cuz i havnt gotten to that point yet. i know it will get easier...but how long is it take before it starts being easier???
anyways, i love tennis. there are tennis courts up the street from my house. i need to start playing again. it's so much fun. and the US OPEN is going on....good time to get back into it.

Sooooo, i've been working out consistantly for about 3.5months now, and for cardio i mostly do the treadmill on a steep incline...like 10%, but still walking. I never do running, cuz i hate it, like i said in this article.
but two days ago, i was like, eh, lemmie give it a try....and i ran 3/4of a mile! Then yesterday i did 1.2 miles, and i hardly felt winded!!! i was SO excited, cuz even when i was like a skinny 13 year old, i couldnt run the mile in school. So i guess working out IS doing something!! hehe So, now i don't hate running quite as much, i guess now cuz i can kind of do it.
SO i really wanna do like a 5k run, just to say i did it, and prove to myself i can!!! who's joining me?!?!
The last time I ran, I aggrivated my knee and it hasn't been the same since. Now I have chronic pain in it.
For anyone who wants to run I am posting my lessons learned:
I highly recommend the new ipod shuffle. You barely know you are wearing anything. When you go from a cd player to this, it's like heaven.
Wide toebox. Or your toenails will turn black from the constant banging. Keep your nails short. Shoes are so important. Replace them every 6 months. If you are logging major miles don't wait that long. Personally, I don't like Nike shox, I tried them and the shox hurt my heel.
Reflectors (if you are going to run at night or early morning)
Anything made by Under Armor.
Roll your foot when running. Remember heel to toe. If you run on your toes you could end up with a stress fracture and physical therapy which trust me, isn't fun.
sweet
i haev the nike .. rox i think? not shox.. something else but also has the heel stuff just smaller, and i love them
and they are pretty wide in the toes which is nice
the ipod has revolutionized my workouts in general
rammstein while lifting
britney spears Toxic while running
haha
I love my Brooks running sneaks. They have a really high arch, so they're literally the only shoe I feel complete foot support in. They're super light and have retained a decent non-gym bag smell for the past year or so.
I have never tried Brooks. I am very picky about my running shoes-ever since I got that stress fracture. My Orthopedist told me if I break it again because I have to stop running for good. So I am the nerd in the shoe store lightly jogging to test out shoes.
Just the other day the shoe guy at Dicks Sporting Goods told me I was beyond helping. I didn't see why he had to be mean about it. I openly admitted to being difficult.
Hahaha - There's a little specialty running store where I get my stuff. The sales guys are super nice (and very cute!) and knowledgeable. Did you get a stress fracture in your foot? I was actually debating starting to use a knee brace because after I run, I feel a lot of pressure on my left knee (why more than my right, I have no idea, I think I'm lobsided (sp?)). Have you ever used a brace?
Brooks are perfect for me, but my husband says they don't fit his feet well at all. I think it's different with every person.
Yes, the break was in my foot. I had to get inserts for my shoes and had these metatarsal bars glued to the soles of my running shoes as well-they made me walk like Quasimodo. I have to try on every shoe b/c of my foot. Some sales ppl get annoyed by that. There is a good running store close to Belmar that I go to sometimes but those guys are hardcore runners and make me feel inadequate.
hmm a week and a half ago or so I did 3 miles in 45 minutes
today i did 3 miles in 36 minutes!!!
WOOT!
what the... wow. I need to get back to this.
I hate running. I can feel my knee snapping now just thinking of running 3 miles straight.
The father of a sister in my hall (not a bro yet) runs the NY marathon every year...they train for it and everything it's pretty cool.
I did my first 5K race back in November. I have never been athletic, never ran. I only had a month to get ready. I managed to do the race without walking (3 miles). It took me about 2 1/2 weeks on the treadmill to run without soreness or cramping in my side. I've kept up with it and now I can run 3 miles in under 30 mins without any trouble.
Posture is important and so are your shoes.
that is AMAZING!!! My best 5K time I think was either 36 or 34 minutes. Probably 36. And I worked myself too hard and really injured my knee to the point that i had to stop running
Today I did 3.1 miles in 45 minutes. Ran 2 miles, walked one. It was amazing just to know that i actually did a 5K distance... but I have to really work at it .. and go slowwwww this time.. to get better times.
My goal is to run a 5K in the spring. Wanna run one with me?!?! Let me know :)
i think i wanna do this one
http://www.raceforum.com/03/shipbottom.pdf
and i'm gonna talk Chris into training with me too
ooh fun
I will do it with you. I work in Shipbottom so I know where it is, and I want to do another couple races.
I have started running again recently and I love it... I've been running a mile or so but alternating with walking a lap, running a lap, etc. etc. (on the treadmill so these are really "virtual laps" haha) but yesterday I ran a full mile without stopping, and then I walked a full mile, and my knees hurt SOOOO BAD afterwards.... i think i'm pushing myself too hard again, I just dont' understand the meaning of taking it slow and building my endurance up, i just want to be able to run a couple miles at a time NOW
so today i'll probably do eliptical or stairmaster or something...
but yeah i miss running so much i love it!!
and yeah i started taking Glucosamine/Chondroitin to help with the knees, that stuff rules
You shouldn't run every single day. You could develop fractures in your bones. I heard that somewhere. Run every other day and then do something with low impact on the other days.
i never stopped hating running. i find it boring
MAN! my alarm clock didnt go off this morning, so i JUST made it to work on time. i'm so mad i wasnt able to run. :( meeeeeeew
My health teacher said that if you're getting winded its not good for you. You have to slowly work yourself up to the point of where you don't get winded. He says if you're working out and can't hold a conversation with the person next to you it's not good.
yea, at first, i wasnt able to hold a conversation. now i can.
its so funny cause when we used to run on our lunch break our friend scott would be talking up a storm the whole time. i never understood how he did that.
i don't really buy that. i think that if you get winded it means your pushing yourself to your limit. i mean, if you're getting winded walking up a single flight of stairs then you have problems, you should work your way up to it, but if you're playing a game of soccer, even if you're in great shape you can get winded from that
agreed with this... you think marathon runners arent winded at the end of a 27 mile run? they probably are in the best shape outta alot of 99% of people and they are DYING at the end.
Getting winded isn't improving your cardiac health. If you're having trouble breathing you're not doing aerobic work anymore.
BAH! tell your health teacher to man up, LOL
No man..you should have seen this guy. Short and just normal sized but he was defininetly in real good shape. He had a heart attack real young so he went health crazy.
is it prof beyer? i think i had him
TMI my friend.. TMI
Yeah! That's the man.
BAHAHA, man-up, nukka!
This sketch confuses me...I try to find the humor in it but, I just end up looking constipated.
running is getting slightly easier. week 2. i dont feel like i'm going to die when i'm done. :-D
yippie aye-o kai-yay
okay, i think the running thing is working. i woke up today, ready to run. and i wasnt tired when i got up! (at 7am)
i still hated the actual running part. but i felt really good after. woohoo!
i hope the running part gets better soon.
yea, and i'm really sore. i hope that goes away soon too.
I'm willing to run but, I prefer a brisk walk...me and my sister-in-law do it sometimes around the high school track. Who know's what my deal is, when I used to run the mile for school I got totally winded and wheezy :P yuck!
i used to love running, i ran every day, ran in races and stuff, and then my knees couldn't take anymore, I did too much in too short of a time. It was fun though, I miss it.
i only like running if its for a sport, i'm not big on running for the sake of running
only time i like running, REALLY early on a beach... when its kinda cold and windy... lol other then that i hate it.
i tried running cause i hate it so much and let me tell you, you start hating it even more. i never found a love for it. i admire runners and their excellent bodies, but yeah it's not for me. i hate it, actually i LOATHE it!
i t hink the only time i could run is if i'm playing a sport but jsut running around a track or beach or just straight running.....YUCK
speaking of tennis: roddick got whupped by that newb from luxomburg! awesome match though. wow.
i have a feeling maria sharapova is gonna get smacked down. she's great to watch. great power. great drops. i just get a vibe she's gonna have a bad open.
