So what does everyone like to do when they workout? I'll start with the weights, one day will be chest and shoulders, then the next will be arms and back, and then a day of legs. I usually include abs into each day, and do a different exercise each time. Then I'll end my workout with some cardio for about a 1/2 hour. I recently started doing some bike riding on trails. I went to one up in Ringwood yesterday after work, and it pummeled my body. It's been awhile since I've ridden like that. The trail twisted like a maze and there were some treacherous rocks. My bum ankle is feeling it today. Plus it's always nice to flip over onto your back, jam your groin into the seat, and crash into large diameter trees. LOL! I've also tried to cut my portions of food down, watch what I drink, etc. In the last month I've lost like 10 pounds. I'm now 220. I'd like to get down to 205 to 210. I weighed that much a couple of years ago and was in the best shape of my life. So what do you ezablers enjoy for a good pump and what do you eat to maintain your ideal weight? Obviously fast food is a no-no.

I have a new favorite machine. The arc trainer is flippin amazing. It was super difficult at first, i could only stand it for like 5 mins. But now, i stay on it for 30-45mins, and burn between 350 & 500 calories. It's great. It's def the most intense cardio machine. And my heartrate stays at it's max throughout the workout.

Plus different inclines work different muscle groups. At the highest incline, it's all about your quads, with no incline, you work your glutes hardcore.

If you have one at your gym, give it a try, you will love it too.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

I burn off 400 calories in 20mins on the elliptical.

A
alexOG 2001 ·

no you don't. the readings on those machines are so inaccurate.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

That's what the machine says. Whether it's true or not is another story.

A
alexOG 2001 ·

it's not true.

A
alexOG 2001 ·

if it is true why are you still so fat?

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Wow... Young sir, I challenge you to a duel.

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

How many calories you burn is dependant on how much you weigh. The more you weigh, the more cals you burn. So i'm sure you burn more than me.

And Alex is right, you have to deduct about 10% off what the machine says you've burned.

A
alexOG 2001 ·

i think the amount of calories you burn has more to do with your calorie intake than anything else. the more you eat the more you will burn if you are exercising.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

i think it has more to do with WHO CARES!!!

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Hahaha

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

i burn 800,000 calories in two seconds.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

800,000 milli-calories that is

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

exactly. every 2 milliseconds

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

I have now lost 24lbs (from my heaviest weight, which was in feb. 2007) I had lost like 10 lbs last year, and gained back 3 or 4. Then i started hardcore dieting and working out Dec. 31st. I've been following weight watchers, and working out at least 4 days a week, consistantly.

For my job, we have to do these health assesments and you get monetary incentives for doing them. So i had taken my measurements in Nov. 2007, and my waist size was 33. I did it again about 2 weeks ago, and my waist is now 28. I lost 5 inches!! it was pretty exciting.

I had been doing 30mins cardio and some weight training. Now i'm trying to do closer to 60mins cardio w/ weight training. I mostly use the treadmill at a pretty steep incline.

And w/ weights i'm concentrating on abs & arms. It's so cool to watch your body change and feel stronger. Also i have a TON more energy. It took a while for me to get to the point where i felt more energetic. But it really happens!

Anyways, i wish i had stuck with a good routine a long time ago. Cuz i feel SO much better.

I'm actually lower than my wedding weight now! woohoo!

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Cool. Congrats!

I work out regularly and still have no energy. Any energy I get from exercise, is depleted from the stress of raising children. LOL!

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

I started incorporating an elliptical machine in workouts. I love it!

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

I like the eliptical machine for the reverse mode, cuz it really works your booty! haha

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Yeah, I can feel the booty today. haha

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

i LOOOOOVE the elliptical machine. my other fave, the tread climber....amazing!

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Yeah, I've been using it regularly. I keep raising the resistance each time.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

I got 4 workouts in this week. I'm very happy with myself. :o)

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

I did a 27 mile ride tonight. Felt great the whole time. But... The wildlife posed a problem. Haha... I rode up Rt 517 from H-town to Andover, from Andover to Byram on Rt 206, then down Waterloo Rd back to H-town. In that span I encountered a black bear eating on the side of the road that almost took out a car, a 10 point buck that ran 5 feet in front of me, 3 or 4 groundhogs, and a fox almost ran out in front of me. Oh and about 87 sucks got in my eyes and mouth. Yum... Protein.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Sucks...LOL!!! I meant bugs.

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder ·

so i got this workout program for "bulking up" it's all about shocking your muscles out of a rut. Looks cool, but it's hardcore. A 6-day a week, for 4 weeks. I need to get more regular to find out what I can do, before I go and jump into this.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Yeah, you seem like the type that has problems bulking up. I'm curious what this program entails.

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder ·

what do you mean?

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Which thing?

1) You have a lean/thin physique. Some people's genetics makes it hard to get more muscle mass. I just figure you are like that. Nothing HGH can't fix. LOL!!!

2) You kind of explained the program below.

iwz iwz ·

i think dan's calling you a wimp, todd

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Not everyone can be Adonis-like as I am. LOL!!

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

it's called muscle confusion

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

me: boo!
muscles: OH MY GOD!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!??!?!?

A
alexOG 2001 ·

dude you should have seen todd a year ago when we were going to the gym every day. he was huge! for serious.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

is it px-90 or p-90-x or whatever

i wanna try that

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder ·

no idea. basically...it's for body building, not so much for ladies, unless you girls wanna get manly and beefy(aka gross).

basic idea: Week 1: you do 8 sets of 8 reps of 90% your normal 8 rep weight. (if you don't get the last part... lets say you can usually benchpress 200 pounds 8 times per set, but you only normally do 3 sets. In this exercise, you do 180 pounds, 8 reps per set, and 8 sets. Week 2: you do 10 reps, 10 sets, same weight. Week 3: 12 reps, 12 sets same. Week 4: 15 reps, 15 sets.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

ahh yeah i don't think that's the same thing

p90X is for men and women and it basically builds lean muscle tone, not BULK

bulky girls = gross

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder ·

update: the REVERSE section means you start with the exercise you ended with, and work your way through the week's schedule backwards.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

you gotta show me this, i wanna do it!

A
alexOG 2001 ·

dude, i just told you about it.

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder ·

I'll email you the plan, and lex can splain it.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

cool, i'll start it as soon as i get back from hawaii

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Can I see it too?

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

yeah, share it

A
alexOG 2001 ·

oh man... i just started this today...i am soooo stinkin tired!!!

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

keep it up, lil man tate

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

me too... yeah that was tough

A
alexOG 2001 ·

okay, going into my second week of this. i haven't missed a day so far.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

I thought about doing this, but I don't think I need to bulk up anymore. I'd rather just focus on being a little leaner. If I get down to 210, I'd be where I want to be. Plus, I can't commit 6 days a week at the gym. Ah, to be 18 or 19 again... Enjoy it Alex.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

woot another 2 pounds gone!! Not sure how, haha, i ate pretty bad this weekend. But then again worked ALL weekend, on my feet, running around after brides, in 96 degree heat. That'll do it!

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Note to self... Do not lift weights for an hour or so and then ride your bike for 30 miles, in the same day. Could prove to be hazardous when going to work the next day...

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002 ·

started walking early in the am today-I would like to do that every day. daily I do an hour and a half on the bike and a 1/2 hour on the rower. 3 days a week I have the option of substituting the bike/rower with Zumba class for an hour. every other day I do a full weight training.

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002 ·

I am determined to keep up with these walks. There is no replacement for an outdoor walk. I walked today despite some drizzles. It's just so much healthier to exercise outdoors. In a gym, you breathe in the air you or someone else just breathed out. On a treadmill, you're taking the same steps repeatedly, but when you walk outside, you have to adjust to different terrain. Walking creates a pendulum motion with your body, this enables your endocrine system to function. Without that motion, there is no pump (like your circulatory system has with your heart) to get your thyroid and adrenals going.

A
alexOG 2001 ·

or like your excretory system has with your poop. you know...pendulum poop!

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

that makes it sound like you're mid-poop and its just swinging from side to side

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Hahaha....

A

hahaha, that's what todd said.

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder ·

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002 ·

hahaha our dog knows a lot about that.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

englandkid englandkidOG 2003 ·

i do my walk away the pounds tape every morning after eating two eggs. I use the 2 lbs weights (right now im at 1 lb, but i have plans to add more tomorrow) and i do one mile. Next week I'm upping it to 2. (I have a dress to fit in!)

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

for real though..

i have had a gym membership for 10 years, mostly working out pretty regularly, and i have gained 20 pounds in these past 10 years

hahaha...

of course i could have worked out MORE regularly.. whatever - anyway - a few months ago we got a dog, and a week ago we got bicycles

and we have been walking the dog a lot, and now riding bikes A LOT like we take them to LBI and just ride for like an hour and then lay out on the beach and then hop back on the bikes

and i bought some dumbells and when i remember i work out with them lol

and also i have mostly stopped eating ... except for like really healthy things and also the occasional ice cream becuase without that life is not worth living really

anyway i don't nkow if i'm losing weight, i refuse to weigh myself because usually the scale goes up even though i'm dieting and exercising

this July 4th i want to try surfing for the first time

and just do more this summer..

so, i might not be losing weight but, it's fun, and i feel good, so, whatevz

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

You need to do some mountain biking. That'll burn some pounds.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

i gave in and weighed myself

i lost 6 pounds in the past few weeks

FINALLY my goodness

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

i dont even think weighing yourself is important really. i think it promotes bad self image ya know? the important thing is that you feel good and secondly is how you feel about how you look. it shouldn't matter what your weight is. i guess it just sort of tracks your progress is all

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

yeah i always felt that way - like 20 pounds ago haha... but yeah i try to weigh myself like once a month these days just to make sure i'm on target

and until now, for the past 2 years no matter how hard i worked out the scale went up every month and it really drove me insane

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Yeah but what were you eating? I was working out regularly and hard each time, but I kept gaining weight over the winter. Turns out it was my diet. I've watched what I'm eating and drinking lately, and how much of it. Now I'm getting leaner. I just wish my ankle would heal already so that I could do more cardio and leg exercises.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

i have always eaten healthy.. for a while i was actually measuring out the calories and talked with a personal trainer about what i should be eating, how many calories, etc. and even he was kind of stumped as to why i was not losing

it seems that the only thing that is working for me now is like extremely low calories, mostly protein and low carb, lots of vegetables and fruit, and just lots and lots of water, heh

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001 ·

you really have to be careful about the "really low calories" because you can start messing up your metabolism. calories=energy. when i do a low calorie diet everything seems to go wrong, im in a bad mood....its just no fun.

i think what matt said is true. just to be happy with how you look & feel is most important. not how much you weigh. i would say about 1/2 of my life so far has been wasted on how i look. its so dumb.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

yeah, i totally agree

i'm still eating a good amount of calories

and basically just eating more often, but less, and more healthy stuff, more natural stuff, more organic, more raw, etc.

and the occasional Rita's Gelati hahaha...

yeah like for example for lunch right now i'm having a small salad - organic romain lettuce from my garden and some other veggies in it. About 3 hours ago I had a protein shake with strawberries and rasberries, for breakfast at like 8 a.m. i had an egg on a piece of rye toast. I'm never hungry i'm just more aware of what i'm eating.

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001 ·

thats really good. we need more support of being HEALTHY instead of being skinny. im so sick of everyone being like 90 lbs. yuck. i'd rather be over weight then look like skeletor.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 · punkprincess

yeah i was never skeletor - i just wanna get back to what i was a couple years ago - just more healthy and fit into a bit smaller clothes haha!

B
brothermanOG 2004 · juicymango

Skeletor had muscles in the He-Man cartoons. Get it right!!

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

well, i agree to a point, you shouldnt be too concerned with the actual numbers. but a lot of people will not weigh themselves because they are in denial, and actually seeing the number might be a boost. But once you feel fit & good, i wouldn't DWELL on the numbers.

My brothers wife & I are the same height & weight (she might be an inch taller) but she is like ALL muscle...so obviously is more fit...but the numbers are still the same.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

yeah exactly... they really shouldn't mean much except to track your progress, you shouldn't read too much into it though. if you look in the mirror and see an out of shape dough-face looking back at you, it doesn't really matter what the scale says does it?

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

HAHA! yea, pretty much.

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001 ·

this week ive been doing a little better. i hate having a gym membership when i dont use its. its like being charged for being a fatty.

my routine: cardio- 30 min, 3 sets of 20 on the situp board/ or machine whats ever available, and alternating days of arm and leg sets (also 3 sets of 20).

sometimes i wondering if im doing myself a disservice, b.c idont know what helps get leaner or whatever.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

you don't want to know what I pay with daycare included.

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001 ·

" It's been awhile since I've ridden like that."

thats what she said

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

That statement just sounds wrong in so many ways! LOL!

iwz iwz ·

I start off with a round of mental stretches, and a 1-liter of mountain dew to get my energy up. After some light finger exercises, I get out of bed. Before I even get dressed I'm +550 calories for the day -- off to a good start.

After some Reeses's Puffs, and Farina w/brown sugar, butter and heavy cream (gotta eat the healthy stuff!), it's off to the "porcelain nautilus". This is good for 30 minutes of cardio and ab workout.

Throughout the rest of the day, it's all about diet. Eating every 30 minutes keeps your metabolism up, so while I'm at my desk for 8 hours, I always have a jar of peanuts, some trail mix, some beef jerky, and a cheese block in my top drawer. Usually, there's some Nerds or Sour Patch Kids handy as well.

Another 1-liter around 11am, and again at 3:30 for that afternoon lull. Lunch consists of raisins and a bran muffin to make sure I'm ready for my workout the following morning.

Dinner: since I've been trying so hard all day to keep up this regimen, I give myself a little "me time". I eat whatever, and however much I want. But I'm always sure to have loaded mashed potatoes no matter what, because you need your starch to keep healthy. Dessert at 11:30pm (usually 1-pint of ice cream (reduced fat, of course!))

Following this for the past year, I've gone from 227 lbs to 212 as of last night! Woot!

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Wow... You realize you will be dead before 40 right? LOL!

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder ·

lol, this has to be a joke!

I like the morning workout routine.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

30 minutes of cardio and ab workout!? that seems a little extreme ian, you seem to be a bit bound up. i'm in and out within 45 seconds to a minute usually

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder ·

well, you gotta take into consideration that he has only 1 workout session a day. You, on the other hand....

iwz iwz ·

maybe I should increase my bran muffin intake?

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder ·

maybe it should start just after the first workout session... and go for a second at 3 for the next day.
