FANTASY BASEBALL 2004
Ok I just figured some people on here might be nerdy enough to play this.
Anyways I just want to say that my #1 pick this season is either ALBERT PUJOLS or GARY SHEFFIELD.

So where is he?
Guilderbell you gonna play? yahoo starts soon
true, but when you look at the angels and marlins, the 2 past world series winners, they were not spenders.
true. but the angels had a career year season from its players. the marlins did too. Its all about being able to follow up time and time again.
thats true. and thats why people are overrating the red sox this year. you think all those guys are gonna have career seasons like they did last year? and the sox still didnt win.
well actually i wanted the yanks to get Vlad, but ill take sheff instead...not a bad guy to "settle" for
Ide like to see some of the midwest teams get some players just to even it up a little. I am tired of money getting teams into the playoffs.
Yeah and with no Vlad and no Vazquez, the attendance should shrink to about 50. I wanted them to keep Vlad, move somewhere like Washington DC, and the fans would love them!
I like the phillies, but hate the eagles/flyers. plus the sixers are WAYYYY too trendy.
haha at least the bills make it to the super bowl
I agree about the Braves? I don't understand them. They have so much money. More than the Yankees. They had to let go of all that talent? Russ Ortiz and Horacio Ramirez is all thats left. Dotel I still feel should not be Houstons closer. If Dotel gets sweaty you will surely see Brad Lidge as the new closer. Last year I just picked up Brad Lidge because he strikes out everyone and hardly gave up runs. I am very impressed with the moves the Yankees and the Tigers are making. The Tigers I feel could possibly have a shot at the division this season. If some of the players have career years they just may. But the additions of Guillen, Rondell White, and Jason Johnson are impressive for a club that has 1 player who is substantial Dmitri Young. Paul Byrd is said not to return this season either.
the tigers might be getting pudge too, they could be a sleeper team this year, believe it or not. and their pitching, despite having the 2 guys with 20 losses, has a lot of potential. those guys are not bad at all. i dont know if the tigers will reach .500 this season, but i bet they could surprise a lot of people.
Yeah, Redding has been suggested as a sleeper in some ESPN articles I read. I havent seen any magazines for fantasy ball out yet though, which ones did you get? I like the Sporting News fantasy preview mags, and I bought the Rotowire one too before. Yeah so what are the Braves gonna do for pitching? Ortiz, Ramirez, Hampton...then what? I guess John Thomson and Paul Byrd. Kinda weak. Dotel is the new closer in Houston.
oh stattracker...i wouldnt mind paying for that. i would actually, although i never got around to doing it. but id never pay for entrance into a league, as long as every league is free. if yahoo goes to pay only ill have to either quit or pay for fantasy baseball...and the obvious choice is pay. :)
Yeah I would kill myself if I didn't have stat tracker. I mean its about 2 minutes late which is not bad if 10 games are going on at once. I got a few magazines off of the news stand and I have been reading up on some of the sleepers and lets just say they have some high expectations for some names on the Padres and Astros. You can pretty much kiss the Braves goodbye. Paul Byrd can still hope to return this season. Maddux is pretty much going elsewhere. Javy is an Oriole. Gary Sheffield is a Yankee. So that leaves the Braves with Russ Ortiz and Horacio Ramirez and the Jones boys. Oh Vinny Castilla left too. So we can not expect much from them this year. One thing I do not understand is that the Astros made Dotel the new closer? Lidge totally deserves that with his amazing performance last year. Astros should get a sleeper out of Tim Redding. The guy unfortunately went 10-14 last season but people didn't notice his ERA was 3.68. With the run support he should be getting he could put up big numbers this year.
i think cbs.sportsline.com but it costs like $130...ive never spent a cent on fantasy sports and i dont plan to
I am paying money for one league this year but only cause it includes stat tracker for free.
i dont know if you can use that kind of scoring in yahoo for some reason
Is there somewhere else where you can?
my team was so good last year, jp somehow squeaked by me though... unbelievable.
my #1 pick? if i had the #1 id still pick arod. i had the #1 last year and picked arod. i dont like the #1 though hopefully i wont get it. last year was the first time i didnt win my league, and i like the middle of the draft, i think its a more balanced team. my top 5 would have to be arod, vlad, pujols, prior, helton
you sound like a pretty good baseball fan...anyone who throws out names like chad moeller must know a thing or two. my league is a typical postition league though, with C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, and 3 OFs (no LF RF CF.) Plus you get 3 Util slots. Then on the pitching side you get 5 SPs, 2 RPs, and 1 SP/RP. if you wanna play, ill be opening the league whenever yahoo gets up...mid february i guess
Wow thats real similar to the league I was in last year that I got nailed for injuries. I had Mike Sweeney and Matt Morris and the unproductive Tom Glavine and Maddux struggled hard the first half of the season. I had a great pitching staff but my bat died on me. Last year I had it C, 1b, 2b, ss, 3b, 3 outfields, 1 util, and 2 SP, 2 RP, 3 P. Is there anyway that we can make a league similar to football where instead of getting wins for categories you get points for defeating your opponent during the week. For example a win could be worth 5 points and a save worth 2. I bring this up because some categories are just worth more than others. I don't care what anyone says. I know they have this in rotisserie leagues but I would like to play head to head using this style if at all possible.
haha i have a league every year on yahoo. do you play? i like only people who are dedicated and into it the whole season. if youre interested let me know, i might already have the 12 people for my league this year but if a spot opens up ill let you know
Yeah I am joining a few leagues this year. Including 1 Experimental league I am making on it. I got sick of how there are some positions in baseball that just downright have like 3 good picks for it like 2nd base, 3rd base, and catcher. So this year its just gonna be pick 9 batters all utility and then use 7 pitchers on the roster spots each day. I decided to do this so that ways I don't get into the same predicament I had last year when all my guys were benched for injuries and I had to drop them and pick up losers for the same position. My catcher got injured and I actually lucked out for a while in the middle of the season by picking up Chad Moeller. But other than that my SS died, my 1B died and my C died. No matter what league your in this season I think there are 5 guys I got my eye on for first round. 1) Albert Pujols, 2) Gary Sheffield 3)Alfonso Soriano 4) Alex Rodriguez 5) Vladimir Guerrerro. I got a few rookie prospects in mind from my offseason research but I got to keep that on hush.
