"I'm just saying . . ."
One of my workmates and I have this ongoing conversation about trying to get a point across or make a subtle suggestion while trying not to seem overbearing or pretentious . . . and we've come to agree on the fact that people like us with always follow some suggestion we REALLY think you should take, or some observation you REALLY should act on NOW with the phrase . . . "I'm just saying" . . . of course, that phrase is only used when there is opposition to said suggestion, and in the spirit of trying to avoid a confrontation . . . at least that's what I think . . . but I know a LOT of us do it, and sometimes, without even realizing it . . . anyone else notice that?

This is Jamie Phaser, not saying goodbye, just saying...
that's ODD, because Dave Catching says that at the end of the QOTSA CD . . . coincidence?
*$^&$%, NO! *sigh*
it's from south park...
cartman! what the **** are you talking about
i'm just sayin'...
I can just hear that in Cartman's voice. Nahahahaha I made you eat your parents.
When you give a suggestion that could actually carry some weight, somehow we do feel the need to say "I'm just saying.." immediately afterward for fear of causing a disturbance. But, it's not exactly necessary. What comes to my mind is a little Steve Urkel that for one second was bold enough to punch his bully and at the next second flinches back. What message does that send? So we finally get bold enough to say something or suggest something but at the next second we say "I'm just saying..." Is your point really going to get across? Is that person going to take it seriously or will they kind of disregard it because you said "Oh, well, I'm just saying.."?
sad but true. i guess in a way it is trying to avoid hurt feelings or disturbances or conflict of any sort. but if you say something and then immediately add "oh well, i'm just saying..." it's almost like saying "well it's only my opinion and that doesn't have to matter to you." but we're all entitled to our own opinions, and people aren't always going to agree. we should try adding to the phrase and say "i'm just saying...because that's what i think, and if you don't like it well THAT'S JUST TOO DARN BAD, ISN'T IT, SMARTY-PANTS???!?!?!?!?" haha well there's no need to take it that far.
(i hope y'all know what i mean, i don't seem to be expressing myself too well today)
I think I know which two ezabeler's are hanging out today...
actually i'm at work but we were chatting on IM ;)
sorry my poopies.
that shows that its just your personal opinion on it and they need to take it into consideration as to if it's good for them to follow your advice.
the same can be said for: 'It's up to you', 'That's just my opinion', and 'Do it right now or i'll beat you senseless and steal your lunch money nerdo'
and the "you too" phrase. don't know when to use the "you too" phrase.
have a nice flight!
yeah you too! if you one day, take a flight somewhere, i hope it's nice!
