Fortress of Dominion
Halfway off the clutch. Start pressing on the accelerator. Lift off the clutch a little more, as your right foot easies further down. Lift off the clutch entirely just as it's time to grab the gearshift, push down the clutch again, and slide it into second just as you release the clutch again.
The ride to work is somehow perfect - especially if you're on time. But the second you end that journey, pull into the parking spot you prefer, rip up the handbrake and get out - you've lost it. Control is no longer yours. Someone else has the authority. For the rest of the waking hours in your possession, the helm of your life is under regulation. Any step out of those boundaries no longer qualifies you as subordinate.
What really makes this acute is when it happens outside of your daily environment. The weekend - that should at least be 48 hours where you have some clout. But when it doesn't work out that way - "friends" setting the rules about who can call who and when - that just moves you right back to that cloth chair with armrests that rolls you from the printer to your monitor.
Doing this can take a lot of forms. Apologies are definitely overdue on my own behalf to those who personally haven't included by myself at various times, and have felt hurt - you know who you are.
But some people do it out of supremacy - to manipulate. A person who treats others like that literally makes me feel so furious. Every one of you out there knows someone who does this to a certain degree - they reach out to you only when they REALLY need something. Possible needs are feeling better about themselves, knowing there is someone more pathetic than they are out there, NOT the sort of friend who knows that you're always there for them because you have that bond where a phone call at 2AM to go get a coke and talk for hours is perfectly accepted.
What if you have that sort of friendship bond - and it changes to the manipulative kind? What can you do?

I think you should act nice to that person, but you dont spend a lot of time with them and you dont ask them to do stuff, but when you happen to be at the same place you act decent. At least thats been my experience.
yeah, there are certain people i can only have surface friendships with, but even then you have to make sure to be at arm's length all the time b/c they have a way of sucking you back into their nonsense.
didn't we have a talk about 2 assemblies ago about friendships. the differences between friends, acquaintances, etc.
