Murphy must hate me!!!

bizarret by bizarret · Dec 14, 2003 · 262 views · Journal

So it seems that my good friend Murphy came to visit me again today. This time in the form of a plow truck... into my NEW CAR! That's right folks. The car that I bought 3 DAYS AGO got hit by a FREAKIN plow truck today.

I got snowed in at Rock Supastar's house last night/all day today. My car has been parked there for the past 24 hours or so. I went out to my car to clean it off at around 11pm tonight and low and behold, my hood, front quarter panel and left headlight are smashed. AND.... guess what...? Yeah, no one around. In other words a hit and run. Isn’t that nice? As you can imagine, I am so happy that my new car now needs at least $2000 of work just to look normal.

I thought that Murphy’s Law said that whatever can go wrong, will. but apparently it's whenever Toby gets something nice, new or fixes something expensive it will get destroyed by someone/thing else.

unbelievable... you should have mike report it to the apartment complex management. they have to know who plows their parking lots. plus you could probably sue the guy for a hit and run.

seriously you should... especially after that incident with mike last week and his car

i called the police and they showed up at like midnight. they filed a report as a hit and run. i just hope my insurance doesn't make ME pay. does anyone know how insurance companies view hit and runs?

juicymango #1.2.1 juicymangoOG 2003

they view them thru tiny telescopes

skaorsk8 #1.2.1.1 skaorsk8OG 2002

HAHAHHA that was a good one

i don't know, but its a really good thing that you called the cops right away. hopefully they'll catch the dirtbag that did that

It's not considered your fault, but you have to pay your collision deductible for the damage. FYI, my lawfirm does the kind of lawsuit that you might file if you decided to sue the Village Green. It sucks, but the legals bills would be between $5,000-$6,000 (just my estimate from similar cases) and you probably wouldn't see any kind of settlement money for at least 1 year, more likely 2 or 3. As long as you have a police report stating that it was a hit and run, your insurance shouldn't assess any premium increase against you. I'd call your agent just to make sure they have the whole story, though, sometimes the people at insurance agencies just push paper and don't look carefully at everything.

Sorry Toby!

Suddenly, I don't feel so bad about the car trouble I have to deal with on a daily basis. However, I wouldn't mind if that plow dude would bash my car, he would be doing me an enormous favor.

UPDATE:

so i got management involved and they sent out all their plow trucks to see if any of them lined up with the dents. we found the truck, but some of the drivers (morons) actually tried to get out of it by saying that, even though 2 separate dents lined up perfectly with the 2 dents on the car, "the truck was full of salt and would have sat lower than it does right now." Don't insult my intelligence! BTW the truck was red, the paint in the scratches is red. i don't claim to be Sherlock Holmes, but this is just ridiculously obvious!

I don't have collision coverage, which means that it's not covered. and as it is, there are no real witnesses. this is gonna be a bloody battle...

i mean i'm not out to get rich. I just want my car to look like it did. this is gonna SUCK!!!

iwz #9.1 iwz

You might not be Sherlock Holmes, but you sure might be Fox McTrot! Nice job Toby!

fivezero #9.1.1 fivezeroOG 2003

so i talked to a lawyer today (thanks Katie). and he gave me some advice. i went to Walmart and bought a disposable camera, took pictures of my car and used a tape measure to see the approx height of the damage. i took like 20. then i went and found the truck that did it. it was still at the appartment complex where i saw it last. it was just parked there so i took a pic of the license plate, the decal on the door, then again with the tape measure to ensure that the height was the same, which it was.

i musta looked funny to the people in the office. just taking pictures and holding a tape measure up to a truck bumper... anyhoo.

they came out and started talking to me... it was great! they were all nervous, and then i mentioned that "my lawyer needs some pictures."

after they dropped a brick or 2, they were really nice and gave me all kinds of advice on what are good body shops... i'll tell more later...
