Gaussian Performance Anxiousness

theremin by theremin · Jan 6, 2004 · 247 views · Journal

The anxiousness of waiting for grades..

..You see, my semester ended on the 17th of December. I think it musta been in the last week of December, when my anxiousness kicked into a notch higher, prompting me to finally call up my college and go something like: I was wondering, when can expect to recieve my grades in the mail. Granted, it was during a time when institutions shut down a bit for holiday miscellany. Still, I'd expected my grades to make it to my house, before my anxiousness was allowed enough time to develop to that sort of unmanagable stage. Well, on the phone with the college, the lady said
that the grades are usually to be expected in a fortnight (Not really. She said "2 weeks." But, I like saying "fortnight") from the semester's last day. So, that'd mean I'd get them on the first of January, if you take into account the 1 day allowable buffer, I'll kindly grant them. And, I guess technically speaking too, tho, taking into consideration, we're basing this on actual clocked time. In other words, from 23:59:59 on the Wednesday in question... which, in all ways to make it fair, just round to 00:00:00 on the Thursday, after the day in question... giving us a laymanable midnight on the 18th of December. In turn, translating to the grades being ideally in my mailbox on January 1st. Of course, that can't be expected tho, since that's a worldly holiday. So, in which case, I'd have to afford them the buffer of the grades being in my
mailbox, on Friday, January 2nd. Fair? Yeh? I think so. But, Alas and Woe is me. For, the grades, still, as of today: Tuesday, the Sixth of January... they are not here in my possession.

The reason I've been so anxious to get my grades, is because I knew of all but one. Three of the classes I had this past semester, I knew my grades for. But, for one class, I didn't. It didn't dawn on to me today... 'cause I was about ready to make another call to my college, finding out when on Earth will these grades get here ...to see if I could view them, via my online transcript. Bing bing, low and behold, a light bulb turned on. I went to the computer, accessed my transcript, and fortunately, my latest grades were posted to it, for my viewing enjoyment. As I said, I knew the grades to 3 of the classes, and was fine with them, but the one grade that I didn't know, was really eating me up, since it was the one class, that I was really really worried about. But, that worry is behind me, after seeing it today. And, it's reassurance that I can continue on planning going back and reapplying for a temporary work permit for the UK, to give it a another chance, being it's partly based on what your GPA is.

So today is a joyful day for me, I guess you could say... In case, you're one that skipped down to read the very last sentence. Hehehe

Colleges like to mess with the minds of students. Financial Aid screws up your money and the school dilly dallies when sending grades. And if you are super anal like me, these things ruin your life for 4 years. I'm glad you survived. Congrats to you.

now i know that it is mathematical mumbo jumbo!

Correctomundo. I was looking for something that fit the "GPA" acronym, other than what it really stands for. And, I already had the words performance and anxiousness, and was lacking what the "G" should stand for. So, boom. Gaussian! Mathematical junk. Yehp. hahahaha
