Being that I'm planning a wedding, I'm interested in feedback about your favorite wedding favors.

Let's pretend money doesn't matter. Hah.

depends on budget. i loved these wine carafe's we got at my cousin's wedding.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

A wedding I was at this weekend had little tiny white metal buckets with the couple's name and date inscribed, filled with saltwater taffy. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm delishhhh hehe. They also had glasses, like drinking glasses, with their name/date/location of wedding inscribed. The glasses were really nice!

Another wedding had huge jars of pink, orange, yellow and lavender gumballs as their centerpieces, and some kind of gumball thing as their favors, I thought that was creative and probably cheap.

Jordan Almonds are always a good deal. TheKnot.com has these Hersheys mini chocolate bars that you can get in wrappers with your name and date on them and it's really cute, and not that expensive. I used those.

We're planning on making a type of food, although I won't divulge what yet. I want to hear everyone else's ideas first.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

yeah food stuff is always good. I always wonder what people really do with all the trinkets and stuff that people give out as their favors. Do people really keep those things? What happens to all of them.. especially after all these weddings that have been happening lately... do people just have boxes and boxes of favors from people's weddings....Ooh that would be a good poll.....

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002 ·

my mom sells them for 25 cents at garage sales

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002 ·

i think as people walk in , you should just punch them in the face.
i mean, after the punch in the face , the wedding would seem much much better.

at my girlfriends wedding it was a "hawaiian" theme and for the favors they had shotglasses with a sillouhette of my friend and her hubby, a little hawaiian saying and their wedding date. Filled in the shot glasses were sand and sea shells then placed in these tule-like packet thingy's (my minds drawing a blank on the name) it was SO unique and she received MANY compliments

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

That is a really cool idea. We're not really having a theme, though. Our reception's going to be at a ski lodge hotel, but it's at the end of October, so a winter theme would be weird. We're trying to be creative by doing our own favors in a cute way...

If you need help at all, please let me know. My future profession is going to be Bridal Consulting/Event Planning, and weddings are what I love. I actually ADORE them. I pretty much planned my entire wedding in under 3 months, and I just got done helping 2 friends with their weddings, too. :) Anyways, shoot me an EZ message if you need any tips. :)

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Thanks a lot! .

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

how awesome, a winter wedding, how about a candle with yours and your finace's silouette, wedding date and then a cute saying.....i think that would be adorable

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

No, it's not a winter wedding. That is a cute idea, though. :)

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

I really liked our favors... i think its cool to have the memories and everyone seemed to like the pick of songs... id like to take credit for it, but it was pretty much all katies doing...

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002 ·

this isn't a wedding favor..but just a wedding related idea I recently had and felt like sharing:

Traditionally people throw rice, not cool. Last wedding I was at they had bubbles, very cute. How about rose pedals!

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Wow, that would be soooooooo expensive! If a dozen roses is about $50 and is about 5 handfulls of pedals, think about how many roses it would take to get all those pedals! I'm pretty sure the rice-throwing is a tradition that we don't follow, and as far as bubbles, I don't think either Donovan or I are that cute-sy. We could never pull it off.

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002 ·

carnations can be very cheap. buy in bulk. if i ever get married, i'd consider getting my flowers in the city from a street vendor--they have great prices and gorgeous fresh flowers.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Yeah, but keeping them and transporting them is the problem. You need to keep flowers refrigerated and in fresh water, or they'll wilt. You can't handle them out of water until the day you're going to use them, and I don't know what you're planning for your wedding day, but I'm going to have a lot more to do than spend the morning making bouquets and flower arrangements. It's not really practical to do that.

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002 ·

this is why brides have friends.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

But brides like to spend time with their friends the morning of their wedding, not turn them into slave laborers. I've done my share of work for friends' weddings, but I would never ask one of my friends to do that.

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002 ·

well hey it's different in each situation. to each her own.

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002 ·

Interesting..there must be a way that this can be done without being expensive.

malibu malibuOG 2001 ·

i want sunflowers. they're just the most gorgeous flower and i can't find pretty ones besides the huge ones that they sell in the city. i might just do that for a wedding.

yodasucka yodasuckaOG 2003 ·

talk to forreste... she has a whole collection of sunflower items haha

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002 ·

oh goodness no. make them go away. the only thing left is the lamp.

malibu malibuOG 2001 ·

i find very few nice household products decorated with my beloved flower but the real thing is so gorgeous. i once saw a floral arrangement with sunflowers and violets and it was gorgeous. that's what i want.

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002 ·

my neighbor used to grow them every year. they got to be a good 6 ft tall sometimes.

specialk specialkOG 2003 ·

I was recently in a wedding where they had 2 favors. One was a mix CD, of all sorts of cool songs. The other favor was really creative. It was 2 Hershey's Kisses, placed together with the flat sides touching. Then, they wrapped purple cellophane around them, stuck silk leaves and a fake stem in it, and it looked exactly like a rose!! It was really cute. And really easy to make, too.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Ian & Mikayla had favors like that too. I still have mine, as a matter of fact. :)

yay yayOG 2004 ·

i would definitely go with something like a set of refridgerator magnets that say 'asian rice has got the spice' or ya know, one of those cool phrases, ya know what i mean? im sure you do.

then everytime you come over ask 'ohhhh hey so did you get my favor from the wedding.. or no? hmm i might have some extras.'

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002 ·

I prefer... ASIAN LICE is o-so NICE.

That way people come up to me like little chimps, groom me, and eat my lice balls.

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

my boyfriend's friend had shot glasses with their name and wedding date inscribed on them. i was thinking of stealing that idea. i think it's so cool.

reaf reafOG 2002 ·

a wedding i went to had martini glasses with a little bottle of rum and sand in it, it looked really nice. it was simple and clean looking, ,and not really a throw away item

if ya get them a little keepsake its bound to be in the trash a few months from now.

get them something they can use or will use or can eat.. cause sometimes you get left with favors simply because people dont want them. who really wants a chachki to just place somewhere. and nothing sucks more than taken favors home, only to throw out yourself.

my favors where basically unknown for AWHILE,, and i ended up doing chocolate rochiers in a tiny chinese take out box, with ribbon,, and then my table ornaments where vases with bamboo and japanese fighting fish, and people took them home as well. ( a lot of those fishes are still living people tell me)

i didnt take much home that night, maybe a handfull of chinese boxes, and no vases, so that was cool..

I would say to go with something practical like.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Really? We were going to do the japanese fighting fish! Wow, we thought we were so original. The reception place we got has nice floral arrangements that are included, though, so we scrapped the idea. That's so funny - we were really proud of that idea. :)

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002 ·

i swallowed one of those fishes at the wedding. then i swallowed one at the end of the wedding. and my stomach was rumbling for minutes
