I would..

juicymango by juicymango · Aug 10, 2004 · 521 views · Journal

My little brother is going to be a senior this year and he's going through the fun process of deciding what he's going to be for the rest of his life. I'm 25 now and I feel like this past year I have been going through the same process, because I made some "wrong" choices when I was his age, and I'm not exactly where I wanted to be... Something that has come to my mind is what I would have done differently if I could turn back time to right after high school graduation. To when everything was fresh and new and I could make all those choices all over again.. Of course this is not possible, but i thought, maybe it would be something interesting to discuss , since a lot of the people on here are about 21 and up - what would you change? what would you leave exactly how it was? What advice would you give to upcoming and recent high school grads??

For me - I would definitely definitely NOT have gone to college when I did. I wasted a year taking random classes trying to find out what I could make enough money in to pioneer. Stupid. I wish i started pioneering right away, and then if I needed to for some reason, then I could have went to college. I was WAY way too confused at the time. If I had known that I can actually make a decent living doing something that I love - writing, photography, etc. - I would have pursued it .. but that was discouraged at the time, and I listened, because I was stupid. I believe that everyone should find something they love, and pursue it. If you have to work for a living, you might as well enjoy what you do.

If I could go back, I would not have dated ANYONE until I was at least 21 or, at least, until I matured a little and knew what I wanted to do with my life...

One thing I would leave exactly the same is the friends I had at that time - some of them I still keep in touch with, and some - we have lost touch. But at the time, they were exactly what I needed and it was a lot of fun. I think we were all exactly what we all needed, heh. I think in a way, we kinda kept each other in the truth, and pursuing the right things. I mean how great is it when like six of your friends are all pioneering with you. It makes for some fun car groups, amazing unassinged territory trips, crazy hyper caffeine induced early morning service... Those were some good times, before any of us even knew what Bacardi was hahaha....

And I guess that's about all I can think of right now... How about you?? What advice do you have for the young ones who have all these choices before them??

I would've kept pioneering. Without hesitation. I never should have stopped.

juicymango #1.1 juicymangoOG 2003

I agree - it's so hard to go back. Those of you pioneering right now, don't ever stop!! :)

i would find a way to not be allergic to milk. and i'd spend a lot of my parents money on that. and then when i was done, i would tease kids named Brandon who create websites like this.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003

there's an actual meaning behind this??

yay yayOG 2004

yes. he likes to wear women's underwears. they are tighter than the usual whities. so instead of saying they are women's underwears he says they are for his super hero outfit. however, i dont know why he paints his nipples with black marker

superhero superheroOG 2004

that's all true, except for the magic marker.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003

so kinda like wonder woman underoos???

superhero superheroOG 2004

ahem. i dont' think you and i should be discussing my underwear unless it's in person.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 superhero

hunkpapap #5 hunkpapapOG 2003

i would have changed alot but that one wish would have meant i would have known none of you guys...

violetboregaurd #6 violetboregaurdOG 2003

I would say that pioneering is an awesome way to figure out what you want to do. Because after high school you're sorta in suspended animation because you are 18 or so but still a major kid.
I mean the person you are at 18 is NOT who you are at 21.
Yeah and dating... okay seriously totally something that should be done at a later date than 18 yrs old.
Traveling - awesome.
College - not for everyone, but awesome if it is.
And... just pray about the rest, Jehovah takes care of it all - I wish I could have been more or a teenager when I was one. I suppose this is what our 20's are for... lol.

violetboregaurd #6.1 violetboregaurdOG 2003

U know what I was thinking about this today - and all in all I would COMPLETELY go through it all again to end up where and with who I am now... maybe minus the time I permed my hair... lol.

perrin #6.2 perrinOG 2004

You know that's what so many people don't seem to realize, that the person you are at 18 is in most cases not the same person you will be when you are say 23. It's amazing how much you can change in those years.

socalgal #6.2.1 socalgalOG 2003

this is true.....you completely change, you're a whole different person.

violetboregaurd #6.2.2 violetboregaurdOG 2003

and as much as you do change in that time period - it levels off more the older you get. But 18-23 whoa these are very transforming times.

rocksupastar #7 rocksupastarFounder

Ive thought about this... alot actually. But one thing you ALWAYS have to realize... at the time... thing things you did usually seemed right at that point. And well, when i was in my late teens, i didnt listen to ANYONE, lol. I wanted to do things my way. So having someone tell me, "oh, do this, dont do that" I more or less just ignored them. Which, looking back, was the dumbest attitude i could have had.

As far as where I am right now... for me being the most retarted guy i know, i managed to end up in a pretty good situation. I have an amazing wife, a decent job that i like, a car, an apartment, and incredible friends that I can count on for anything. Its surreal to think about where I was in my teen years compared to now.

yay #7.1 yayOG 2004

Feelin ya my man...

Part of me thinks yeah, could have done without a lot of mistakes, alot of stupid mistakes. At the same time I don't think I'd be where I am today, and it forces me to realize things could be a lot worse. I can't get frustrated over what I haven't done right or accomplished, it won't help, never has. It's the direction of the mistakes, do they make me a better person then I already am?

juicymango #7.1.1 juicymangoOG 2003

Yeah i think about that too, there are certain things I wish I could go back and change, but then, I wouldn't have learned the lessons that I learned.

rocksupastar #7.1.2 rocksupastarFounder

wow dude.. i TOTALLY feel the same way... i was pretty retarted when i was younger... lol... i sound old now. But anwyays, i feel like the things i did shaped me to be the weirdo i am nowadays and well some of the mistakes I would take back in a second... and wish i could everyday. But the others, well, i think it was a learning experience... and well thats part of growing up.

sunshyne #7.1.3 sunshyneOG 2004

it is blowing my mind how deep you are when youre not humping somebodys leg.

web-toedchloe #7.2 web-toedchloeOG 2001

"Your teen years compared to now"... you're only 21! You were a teenager 2 years ago! And as someone who's known you since you were 9, you act the same now as you did then. You haven't changed at all.

fivezero #7.2.1 fivezeroOG 2003

and...he is...OWNED!

rocksupastar #7.2.2 rocksupastarFounder

um actually, im almost 22. AND i was talking about early teen years... ms snipy...

web-toedchloe #7.2.2.1 web-toedchloeOG 2001

Whoa, you're so out of my wedding. And here on earth, "almost 22" is the same as 21.

rocksupastar rocksupastarFounder

yeah, and here on EARTH.... im STILL 3 feet taller than you.

thefunkyfresh #7.3 thefunkyfreshFounder

mike you would ask somebody for advice, they would give it, you would say "yeah i know, you're right" but then you would just go and do whatever you wanted anyway. and usually it was something really stupid. i was different, i would ask for advice, they would talk for about 20 mins, and then i would say "what? were you saying something? who the heck are you anyway?"

rocksupastar #7.3.1 rocksupastarFounder

hahaha, whatever dude... you were so clueless when we were that age... although, nothing has changed... OH snap

katiedid #7.4 katiedidFounder

awww thanks mike. haha, you pioneered and I went to college to support the fam, huh? j/k. It depends on so many factors. My senior year in hs, I was offered a full scholarship for one year to the community college...it would have been crazy not to take it. So I started college right after school and a long 3 years later, got my AAS. Of course, if I could choose my major again, I'd do something completely different though it has helped in my job. wait, what was my point?

socalgal #8 socalgalOG 2003

i somewhat wouldn't change my experiences. i think i had to go through what i did in order to appreciate what i had/have.

fivezero #8.1 fivezeroOG 2003

I know what you mean. I feel the same way.

specialk #8.2 specialkOG 2003

True dat, yo!! :)

originalsnob #9 originalsnobOG 2004

I actually home schooled cause we were going to move and didn't want me to start my sophmore year out totally lost.
Well... we didn't move and I didn't go back to public school which allowed me to focus on knocking out my spiritual goals.
One thing I might have done differently? It's odd 'cause if any part of the equation had been different so would the out come.
;-)

thatdarngirl #10 thatdarngirlOG 2002

I think you've all just given me an anxiety attack. I know we're not supposed to worry about the future too much but in trying to plan for it I worry about it and that messes me up. I'm just trying to go with the flow. If I change, cool..if not, not so cool actually. I've already changed so much since I was 15 (like..I'm not anywhere near the same person AT ALL!) and I just hope that as I change more I change with my beau because I was unfortunate enough to find him in my life waaaay to early.

sunshyne #10.1 sunshyneOG 2004

awwwwwwwwwww...you said beau! i love you!
