No more ASL for now

perrin by perrin · Aug 25, 2004 · 282 views · Journal

As many of you are probably aware, for the last few months I have been going to ASL classes down at the Wall congregation by me and last nite I was actually planning on talking to the elders about switching over. So last nite some very interesting things happened and it seems my hall needs me now and the elders even sat down with me briefly to talk to me about it. I'd rather not get into the details of what happended but in a nut shell, they have asked me to stop the ASL for now and they want me to take on the responsiblity of conducting and taking the lead in my current bookstudy. They asked me how I felt about that and I told them honestly, "I really don't know right now, I think I'm still in kind of a shock about everything." So they asked me to pray about it and think about it and to give them an answer by sunday. So in thinking about it last nite and praying about it, I've decided to stay in my hall because what would be the point of leaving my hall when they need me to go to another hall that needs me. It just doesn't make any sense. So for now at least no more ASL for me, though I think I'm going to try and go to the bookstudy's from time to time to just keep it somewhat fresh in my mind because who knows what could come of it in the future.

wow! well either way, Jehovah is using you, and that still is a blessing. And yeah, i was gonna say, go to a few ASL meetings just to keep up on it. I used to go to a Spanish bookstudy with funky to learn Spanish... i thought we were doing good, but... we stopped going for a few reasons and now I can even order something at taco bell anymore...

Wow, that's crazy! ASL needs brothers too, tho. :o( Maybe some more brothers in your hall will reach out, or new brothers will move into the area, and you can come back later. The meetings are great but most of the learning is in preparation. So get a few ASL vids and dvds and keep learning!

Yeah I will. My sister is actually in the ASL group in Wall so she is going to help me keep my ASL up.

Right now our hall has too many brothers, so I've joined the hackettstown spanish bookstudy. Last night was so great because I'm understanding more and more. I think it's going to be really fun :) But as for you, i think you're making the right decision. The point is to go where you're needed and right now your hall needs you. In the future you will have oppertunities to help out elsewhere

i dunno about having TOO many brothers... i think we are doing good... but no hall can have TOO many...

thefunkyfresh #3.1.1 thefunkyfreshFounder

true true, well, unless the KH was an 8 by 8 room and there were 700 brothers. THAT would be too many.

why, you seem to enjoy the close company of men... i dont think you would have a problem with it.

Good for you Matt. It's good to reach out and see where help is needed and put yourself out there to help.

i'm sorry you have to leave the ASL cong. but its nice to know that jah is still blessing you by using you for a greater need.

Yeah I know I think it just kind of depressed me a little when I first decided it because I put so much time and effort into trying to learn ASL but then I realized that all that effort and time is not wasted because who knows how Jehovah might be able to use those later on. Plus it's a huge priviledge I've been given.

socalgal #4.1.1 socalgalOG 2003

oh yes it has & you're just answering the "here i am send me" call =)

hey man, that's awesome. Go where you are needed.

I've had the privilege of conducting our bookstudy for the last...wow...almost a year. Probably like 8 months....dang. Anyway, it's such an amazing privilege, and remember nothing spiritual is not worth while. The skills and responsibility you learn from conducting your bookstudy on a weekly basis will help you with ASL (when you have your own bookstudy to conduct there), etc.

Enjoy the "perfect present" from Jehovah. :)

Huh, I will be meeting you tomorrow then I was asked to take the class picture.

perrin #6.1 perrinOG 2004

Oh well that's cool. Yeah I almost wasn't going to go but Joel told me I should because I've been a large part of the class and talked me into going. I'm actually glad he did. I'll meet you tomorrow then.

perrin #6.2 perrinOG 2004

I hope I didn't blink in all of your pictures but I'm pretty sure I blinked in at least 1. lol

I just found out yesterday from Janine that I already have met you. We actually went on the same trip to canada with Brianne quite a few years ago. I didn't realize this was you and I totally didn't recongnize you at the kingdom hall it's been so long since I've seen you.

rocksupastar #6.3.1 rocksupastarFounder

yeah, she was there with us a LONG time ago... on that crazy trip haha.

perrin #6.3.1.1 perrinOG 2004

Yeah that was such a crazy trip wasn't it but oh so much fun. lol

rocksupastar rocksupastarFounder

hahahah... yes GOOD times! wish we could go back... well... go back when we were older... and maybe not with some of the people that were there.

perrin perrinOG 2004

You have to admit though that was a pretty good group we had up there. We had some good times. How about when you guys forced me to put a jacket on because I was making all of you cold. lol

I think you should start your own congregation in your home.
then your congregation would need lots of help since you're the only one. and you can do half asl half english
