Skippy

beachbum by beachbum · Sep 27, 2004 · 245 views · Journal

So I finally got my chincilla on Friday night. He's just a little baby-only 2 months old, but he's the softest thing ever. I absolutely love him. He's a little skiddish but a lot less than I thought he would be. He loves to get on the couch and run around and jump all over me and Andrew-his a mischievious little character. And surprisingly (seeing as he hates the bird and fish), Andrew seems to like him very much and plays with him a lot. I don't have a pic of him but the page on the link below shows a chincilla on top that looks like mine.

You should bring it to my place to play with Donovan's guinea pig. It'd be like two balls of fur running up and down the hall.

skippy is the name of my dog. And it's what i call all dogs regardless of their name, so that's how she got hers...

beachbum #4.1 beachbumOG 2002

yeah skippy is a pretty general term i like to use too, so i figured i might as well. it just seems to fit him too

im going to guess and say its short for homogenized?

flomojopoanode #6.1.1 flomojopoanodeFounder

also notice that there's "HETERO" colors as well.

sunshyne sunshyneOG 2004

ok i found it:
homozygous
adj : having identical alleles at corresponding chromosomal loci; "these two fruit flies are homozygous for red eye color"
heterozygous
adj : having dissimilar alleles at corresponding chromosomal loci; "heterozygous for eye color"
but i dont know what it means. at all.

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder

they're all just a bunch of homo's to me.

sunshyne sunshyneOG 2004

i want to know what it means! for real! anyone know?

yay yayOG 2004

I think perhaps you're looking for homogeneous? A group or selection of things that have a common trait. Similar in nature.

You can have heterogeneous and homogeneous items

There isn't much that I'm afriad of, but I don't think I'd wanna even HOLD one of those things, not for a second. Let alone OWN one. They're cute, but kinda gross.

beachbum beachbumOG 2002 fivezero

how are they gross???

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 beachbum

They look alien. This is what I imagine a "whomp-rat" from Star Wars looks like.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 fivezero

That's just me though. I'm sure they're mad cool.

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder fivezero

they are rodents...
do you call Skippy your "homo-chinchillian friend"?

beachbum beachbumOG 2002 flomojopoanode

well i will now...

I think it means that homozygous has the same gene on both the maternal and paternal chromosones, and hetero means it has a different gene on each chromosone. this information is useful for breeding. Say you had two homozygous blue (male and female), then all their children would be homozygous blue. If you had two heterozygous blue and we assume the blue is a recessive gene, then a child would have a 1/4 chance of being blue (homozygously) (If its a dominant gene then 3/4 would be blue - 1/2 heterozygous blue, 1/4 homozygous blue).

socalgal #6.2 socalgalOG 2003

you mean i can get a chinchilla in pink?? WOW i'm SO wanting one now!!!

beachbum #6.3 beachbumOG 2002

sunshyne #6.3.1 sunshyneOG 2004

beachbum #6.4 beachbumOG 2002
