CRASH!

fivezero by fivezero · Oct 22, 2004 · 284 views · Journal

i saw an accident this mornimg on the parkway while driving to work! it was pouring rain and some dude in a green truck zipped in front of me doing 75 or so. he hit a puddle, hydroplaned and his truck flew off the road and broadsided a tree, hard. i quickly pulled over and put my hoodie up and run over to his car. i saw that all the air bags were deployed and theres a huge gash in the side of the car between the front and back doors that arched the vehicle in half. two of the wheels popped off and i never saw where they ended up. the guy inside was covered in glass, with a few lil cuts on face. i called 911 and told 'em where i was and all, and they said they're sending a cop. the door was smashed into his side and i couldn't tell if it cut him or if it smashed his arm and leg or what. so i asked him and he just kept mumbling. then he started to crawl out of the wreck contrary to my admonition to sit still and wait for the medics. still ignoring me, he crawled out and stood up. he seemed physically fine besides the little cuts on his face and head. he was all disoriented though. mumbling stuff, not answering questions. he kept whimpering that his side and chest hurt. a couple minutes later he took a good look at his truck said "oh, my god, look at this! thank you so much for stopping." i said "no problem. you're very lucky you're not dead, dude" the cops came and asked me what happened. i told them everything and they took my information then told me to move along. it was a pretty cool experience. i remember trying to open the smashed door like in Unbreakable, but i'm not Bruce Willis. though the dude seemed fine. he may have internal injuries or something. who knows. i was late for work.

Very cool of you for stopping. Not enough people do that these days.

At least you had a good excuse for being late, you saver-of-lives-and-stuff, you. :)

fivezero #1.1 fivezeroOG 2003

Yeah! No one stopped but me. I was shocked. The traffic was sparse at 330am, but there was a few cars behind me and NO ONE else stopped. What's wrong with people?!

specialk #1.1.1 specialkOG 2003

I know....I'm the type or person to stop as well, but it always amazes me how many people just drive by with no offer to help.

We were leaving an assembly last year, and the car in front of us (some of our friends) TOTALLY ran a stop sign because they weren't paying attention, and got SLAMMED into by another oncoming car (that car didn't have a stop sign). Our friend's car flipped up in the air, smacked the stop sign on the OTHER side of the street, just missing a telephone pole, and finally stopped in a field on the other side of the road.
We went over to see if they were ok, and about 5 or 6 other cars of Witnesses came over as well. But I remember seeing a bunch of cars just keep driving.

suchgr8heights #3 suchgr8heightsOG 2003

I'm coming to HATE the parkway. Seeing accidents all the time is completely unsettling. Hope I'm never in this situation.

ilikebirds #3.1 ilikebirdsOG 2002

I've never seen an accident on the parkway

juicymango #3.1.1 juicymangoOG 2003

I've only seen the after-math... i've seen so many cars flipped over it's nuts

juicymango #3.1.1.1 juicymangoOG 2003

oh and there was that one time that a car turned around and started driving TOWARDS US and almost killed us

suchgr8heights #3.1.2 suchgr8heightsOG 2003

I see AT THE LEAST one a day. Like Brian called me @ around 4 to tell me about this one and then the second I got on today @ exit 82 *BOOM* 4 car accident! I don't always see them happening but, still, it's just not what I want to ingest with my cup o' joe every morning.

juicymango #3.1.2.1 juicymangoOG 2003

OH GEEZ 4??? in the morning?!?! Oh man i can't work for UPS if that's the deal. haha... i really wanna work for UPS .. somehow

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

doubtful. they are VERY touchy about uniforms. besides, they don't come in toddler sizes.

but i'll work my connections. we'll see what i do.

sunshyne #3.2 sunshyneOG 2004

my second worst accident was on the parkway. in a game of rock paper scissors between a dodge stratus and a suburban pulling a landscaping trailer, guess who lost?

suchgr8heights #3.2.1 suchgr8heightsOG 2003

:( I've never been in an accident, not even a fender-bender and I hope, I hope! I never do but with all the driving I do I feel like it's prolly inevitable.

sunshyne #3.2.1.1 sunshyneOG 2004

ive been in so many! none of the big ones were my fault. i did do dumb stuff when i was first driving, like hit my moms car and break my headlight, back into a fire hydrant and break my taillight, drive into the garage door and dent it and side swipe our fence and break a few slats. good thing my first car was a 1977 buick skylark. that baby was like a tank.

fivezero #3.2.1.2 fivezeroOG 2003

As, YOU know, I've never been in one where I was driving. I've been in a couple with my pal Jamie, but NONE while I was in control of the vehicle. I love bragging about that to people who have been in multiple accidents. They get annoyed. It's almost like they wish I'd get into one. Terrible.

suchgr8heights suchgr8heightsOG 2003

I've never either but it still makes me feel uneasy when you say "I don't get into accidents. It'll never happen." Because it's such a possibility.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

Sorry. I don't "do" accidents. Accidents don't always just happen. A lot of times they are caused.

Everyone hates when I talk like this. But MAN do I love it!

englandkid englandkidOG 2003

sniff sniff.... i just got into my first real accident that I caused! :( Excecpt my Civic hit an Explorer... Brian: if you ever find yourself about to have an accident, am for an Explorer (NO DAMAGE!!!!!!!!!) Except you may crack your license plate. Also, when you yield, make sure the guy in front of you is done yielding. Otherwise it wont work.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

I'll do what I can.

happened to my father a few weeks ago, he saw a van flip over on rt 80, he pulled over real quick and ran up, the guy was not moving. he started yelling and finally the guy started to wake up. The cops finally got there and told him to leave, but he said he couldn't stop thinking about it all day. he called the hospital later and found out that the guy was pretty much ok though.

fivezero #4.1 fivezeroOG 2003

I'm kinda strange. Stuff like that doesn't effect me. Still, I AM curious about how he is. I think he's fine.

thatdarngirl #4.1.1 thatdarngirlOG 2002

If you ever see him driving around again you get hit his car and ask him.

T
#4.1.1.1 toxicgirlOG 2003

haha

thefunkyfresh #4.1.2 thefunkyfreshFounder

my dad wasnt sure if the guy was dead or not

fivezero #4.1.2.1 fivezeroOG 2003

Actually, at first, I was SURE the guy was dead. I expected to see brains. The air bags clearly saved him. Kinda scary stuff.

rocksupastar rocksupastarFounder

thats insane... airbags can either SAVE the person or hurt htem even worse... like with my, i got hurt more from the airbags then from the actual impact...

yay yayOG 2004

yeah but your chances of living are greater

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

That's not true for me. It's more likely that I'll get killed by the air bags because I'm so short (I have to sit real close to the wheel) and small.

rocksupastar rocksupastarFounder

oh yeah, i agree... if you get into a head on collision at 80 miles an hour... airbags would DEF help... but like my accident, it was a 45 mile an hour accident... and i screwed up my wrist and burnt my legs from the stupid thing, i would have been fine otherwise...

yay yayOG 2004

45? thats fast, people die going 20. you hit something that doesnt move its lights out. think about it, especially if you're hitting something straight on, its the same as running into a wall without putting your hands out

rocksupastar rocksupastarFounder

yeah, no your def right, im just saying airbags SOMETIMES put more hurt to you just cause of the speed they deploy and the force. Maybe we should all just drive around in cars filled with peanuts... not the kind you eat, but the kind you put in boxes... altho i guess you COULD probably put both kinda peanuts in boxes, and atleast ud have something to eat while stuck in traffic on 80.... sometimes

I would have puked had I seen this happen

jamiephaser #6 jamiephaserOG 2003

You should of rolled him for his wallet.

fivezero #6.1 fivezeroOG 2003

I thought about it. He was awake.

I was thinking though. The cops might figure that out. Even if he died. His account might have been drawn 20 minutes earlier and then where'd the money go?! Call the witness! Nah, s'not worth it. lol!

jamiephaser #6.1.1 jamiephaserOG 2003

Youcant track cash i know he didnt have a die pack attached to his twenty.

fivezero #6.1.1.1 fivezeroOG 2003

HAAAA! I'd be mad if he did. Stuff like that comes back man! I watch too many movies. It's made me paranoid about rolling unconcious people for their loot, lol!
