So, what up everybody? As you ight know I'm from the great west coast, Los Angeles, CA. I jsut wanted to know where the rest of you guys are from. Are the rest of you from NJ? What part? What's it like where you live? I know some of you live out in the boonies, fightin off bears and everything? I myself live in a suburb/ghetto kinda area (fightin off the drug dealers and bums). So where are you from? And what's it like there?

I'm in West Chester, Ohio. It's very much the suberbs. No drug dealers or bums (that we can see)or bears here, but I do spend my time fighting for a good parking spot at the local grocery store, or dodging the stupid little rich kids (just like the ones I went to high school with) that aren't quite sure how to drive well in the brand new BMW that mommy and daddy bought them because they got their TEMPS!!
Sorry....anyways, this area used to be just a bunch of cornfields and cows, with a school or two stuck in there amongst the houses. Now, we've got a PF Chang's, a movie theater, Applebee's, shopping plazas, and TONS of other "cool" stuff, all within a 5 to 10 minute drive through the area. It's gotten really nice, and the school district has become known for being a little "ritzier" than it used to be. It's all-in-all a nice place to live in. Heck, I've spent 24 years here in the same area, no joke. Maybe I'm just used to it by now.
i used to live in the suburbs of north jersey and now i am in the fields of south jersey. ppl actually farm for a living here (not me but other folks). yes, folks there are still gardens in the garden state. we live on an almost 5 acre wooded lot. its been a huge recent adjustment but im trying to not get down about it. there isnt much to do here when it comes to going out or maybe i just havent met the right ppl. im staying busy with between congregation, work and family. i miss my friends and my two sisters who no longer live with me. i try to get up to north jersey at least once a month.
i think after a while you may start to enjoy the peace and quite and less traffice, etc. You may even wonder one day how you even managed to live in North Jersey for so long. we are coming down there this weekend to work on the berlin KH. you can meet up w/ us maybe. we can connect you to some people in your area, too.
oo that would be nice. i will ezmessage/gmail you my info.
Ah..I can't ever think about living anywhere save the Tri-State area. What, drive slow? Don't honk at people? Whoah wait..you don't need to cut people off ever!? People hold the door open for you at stores..and 9 out of 10 people aren't on anxiety medication? I think I'd be very very confused.
ppl in general are still rude here, but there are more polite individuals.
Wow! Someone who actually feels similarly to me. I don't think I could leave the shore or the tri-state area, myself. Everyone talks of bailing and going to Hawaii, California, Florida even. I kinda like my area and I don't think I'd want to leave my current congregation. I kind of feel an obligation to it, since so many young ones moved, left, fell out of the truth. I'm one of the last 'originals.' It's not so bad here at all. I'm close to Philly and NYC, close to the beach, close to everythig. Millions of things to do. I dig it here.
I imagine that families mustve been a lot closer in times when most people lived in rural areas, because they would be spending more time with them. I would love to spend a little time in a more rural area. it's be so much more beautiful compared to LA. I remember when i visisted upstate new york how nice it was, I'd love to live closer to an area like that
oh for the pioneering days, candles and fireplaces and cast iron stoves. those were good times.
adam's representin the westside!!!! lol what up adam!
i'm in North Haledon, NJ - 20 mins from the GWB (with no traffic). It's nice here, rural and quiet, although P-Town (Patterson NJ, not Patteson NY) is about 15 mins away and it's not a nice place. I've only been there once and try to never visit.
There's awesome hiking here, great views of the city, and lots of ridiculously rich people. Come on, do you REALLY need 2 BMW 645ci's? No, you don't. Get a nice accord and stop whining about your $650/month car payment. And while we're at it, don't buy your kid a WRX STi just because he wants one.
Also - I'm pretty sure I live within 20 mins of 14 malls. Ready? Garden State, Paramus Park, Fashion Center, Willowbrook, Wayne Town Center, Bergen Mall, Palisades, Nanuet Mall, Riverside Square, and if you drive fast, Woodbury Commons. I like Marshalls and TJ Maxx though :)
malls i miss malls
Im Central Jersey By the shore, I HATE JERSEY. but being by the shore helps.
dont hate. evacuate.
HA Ha Ha, its in the works.
where do u guys think you might wantto move to?
no seriously. leave
I'm in Bethlehem, PA right now. www.bethlehempaonline. Check out the "Seniors" section. Lehigh University is on the South side of town, with all the seedy bars and frat houses, all the retirement homes and the historic district are on the North side, where I live and work. It's a cute town, but I don't want to stay here forever. The problem is, my husband and I both have jobs that we love 15 blocks from our house, so I don't know if we're going to be leaving soon.
Although I hear the shore is a nice place to live... ;)
Oh my gosh...when we went to PA in September, we drove right THROUGH Bethlehem!! We went to Nazareth too, and stayed with some friends in Lansdale. How close are you to those areas?
Nazareth is about 25 minutes from me; it's much worse then Bethlehem. It's hick-central out there. Lansdale is pretty cool, it's about 40 minutes.
what's with all the bible city names over there?
Bethlehem is the Christmas City. Jesus was born here on December 25th.
i bet they go all out for christmas too, as if it really were bethelem
yeah? you think they chill all day in mangers and look at the stars to guide them?
They really do go to a disgusting degree. There's decorations all over town and "reenactments" of Jesus' birth. Plus, there's a huge star on the side of a mountain all year round that's supposed to be the famous star of Bethlehem that lead the wisemen to baby Jesus. All this crap and they can't fix pot holes in the streets.
Aren't there stars on signs, or something to that degree, directing you to the big star or something? I remember a star.....I KNOW I do...hehehe.
Yeah, they're all over the place. This town is so proud of that piece of metal and glass.
Yep...we drove right through there, if I remember correctly. :)
Hey, do you know Paige and Tim Maykut (Maycut?). They live in Bethlehem, too. My husband grew up with Paige and her parents, Pat & Henry Willouer.
No, that doesn't sound familiar. There's like 3 congregations in town, though, so they might be in one of the other ones.
Oh, ok. Just wondering, 'cause they are the only ones I remember meetin while we were there.
Good to hear from you, bro. I live in Toms River, NJ. A few miles from Seaside Heights. Hour and half, at most, from both NYC and Philly. It's a big town. Growing VERY fast. I found out recently that Ocean County is one of fastest growing counties in the US. We've got a little of everything. From young upwardly mobile types to retirees. City-types to country-types. Surfers kids to Goth kids. Theres a few local malls where you could get a good idea of the kinda people that inhabit the area. It's a melting pot. Unfortunately the cost of living is quite expensive, but I think theres something for everyone 'round here. I dig it quite a bit.
I love where we live, what it has become. When I moved up north I missed it SO much but at the same time I loved living in Roselle Park because I was 30 min from the city and it was a TRUE melting pot. Toms River ain't there yet. But I love it so much that I travel here and there but I'm always happy to be back here in this town. Truth be told..I love Jersey and would be very content staying here.
Hey, I live in Northwest New Jersey, just off RT 80 (which connects our states). I live in a nice community called green township. I'm surrounded by farms, but I'm really not far from many towns. Halloween's a big thing here. So is Christmas. So much decoration, so annoying!
Morristown it's a small town but it's pretty busy. There's a community theater which actually attracts a lot of big name celebs Paula Cole Tony Bennet... this Xmas Vanessa Williams.
Meryl Streep filmed One True Thing a few streets down from my house.
Somewhat snooty lots of professionals lawyers/doctors but, funny part is the lawyers and doctors aren't the uppity ones.
The people that come into town for dinner in our resturaunts NASTY(we have over 100 all throught) even the bus boys are funky. No offense but, it makes me think "You're just a bus boy WHY R U tryin' to be PINCHED?!?" In the winter it's very cozy, nice to walk around, lotz of historic spots :-)
...nice to walk around where YOU hangout. Haha just playin Livy. You said pinched....niiice, i luv that one. You forgot to mention the other part of Mo-Town. The best part...*wink*
Well if I were from that other part perhaps I could appreciate it more...or NOT AT ALL, the later is most likely ;-)
I live in Lavallette, NJ. The beach is down the street and the bay is up the street. It's sleepy and slow compared to Toms River and Seaside (they are the surrounding towns). I'm from Mechanicsburg, PA though. I lived 10 mins from Harrisburg (the state cap). I also lived really close to Lancaster, Hershey, and Gettysburg. It's nice, close to Washington D.C. and Philly. It's cheaper than the area I live in and it isn't hickish. It's a real-life suburb. I miss it, and I miss my family. But I love the beach.
PA most definitely is pleasant. I'm pretty sure you're CLOSER to Philly NOW. We don't go enough.
As for the family? We'll be seeing them soon.
i loved riding through PA on the 80, the scenic route. It's so weird out there compared to CA. so green Even NJ is greener than most parts of LA. (and i'm not just alking about the air)
i agree, green is great. the worst is gray. i hope it snows soon to cover the grayness of everything.
We should go out for ice cream sometime. maybe a full meal.
i didnt know PA even had a capital....
of course it does mike, DUYEEE
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, thats exactly how you spell it too! hahahhaha
i'm from a little place called the bronx.
don't be fooled by the rocks that he got!
We live in a little place called Tuckerton. Or Little Egg Harbor. Or Mystic Island. All the same zipcode but different towns, i have no idea how it works. Anyways, it's about 15 minutes from LBI which is pretty much the state's most gorgeous beach. And it's surrounded by the bay, marshes and things - it's kind of a peninsula. And Tuckerton was I think the second or third seaport in the states. When they built Atlantic City they didn't think it would make it becuase it was "too far from Tuckerton" hehe... Anyways I love it. And the town itself is not bad. A little hickish in parts but not bad, kinda a cute little town. And the congregation is great. Overall, I'm pretty happy with where we live.
i heard they held up the permits for your hall again. but as soon as they go thru-we are there to build. perhaps we will see you guys?
