Spring Fever

web-toedchloe by web-toedchloe · Feb 7, 2006 · 347 views · Journal

It was so warm here the past few weeks and today it's incredibly sunny. I totally have spring fever. I can't wait to not have to layer on my scarf, coat and gloves before I leave the house. I can't wait to sit outside and lazily waste afternoons.

What are your favorite spring activities?

this year i actually have space for a garden, which makes me so giddy it's ridonculous

I want to have a flower garden and an herb garden and a vegetable garden

i want a small greenhouse for the backyard so I can grow tomatoes and stuff well into the fall

and of course, i want a few chickens so we can have farm fresh eggs, but that's less likely to happen then the garden situation

I don't really know much about gardening so it's going to be an educational experience and a fun one. I can't wait to surround my house with fragrant flowers. Every day that it gets closer to spring I just get more and more tickled at the thought of buying some top soil and seeds and small plants and asking way too many questions at the local garden shop!

I'm going to buy a few of these and try to grow tomatoes this spring:

I hate digging and weeding. Plus, my deck gets more sunlight than my yard because of the surrounding trees.

juicymango #1.1.1 juicymangoOG 2003

that's kind of interesting!

i actually really like putting my hands in the dirt and all that stuff, i just have to have gloves on because i don't like the possibility of touching a bug. haha...

web-toedchloe #1.1.1.1 web-toedchloeOG 2001

I hate digging dirt out from my fingernails --- that's my main deterrant. I remember loving the feeling of dirt and sand in my fingers when I was little.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003

yes - that is another reason why gloves are a must for me. But I grew up doing that kind of stuff, and I really for some reason used to love weeding, like it was relaxing or something... and my favorite place in the world as a kid was my grandma's flower garden - i really hope that i inherited some of her skillz

btw i'm gonna be totally addicted to that site now. YIPEE

What's the difference between an annual and perennial? I wish I was more into gardening.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003

i know one of them comes back every year if you leave the bulb in the ground, and the other just blooms/grows for the year and then it's dead and done. I think. Right?

Very helpful. I was mailed an "exotic seeds" catalogue once. I saved it at home; I'll have to give you the web address. I constantly say to Donovan that I'd like to retire and just garden all day, but he reminds me that I don't have the patience. Maybe I'll start with some herbs in a windowbox on my deck.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003

yeah i find it very relaxing - the last time i had a little garden was probably about 10 years ago, but i remember i liked it so much! and i am very A.D.D. type and usually don't have ANY patience but somehow gardening really relaxes me and helps me focus! anyway just the thought of it relaxes me so we'll see what happens in a few months, ha

socalgal #1.2 socalgalOG 2003

you girls are so cute....you're making me want to start a garden! LOL

beachbum #1.3 beachbumOG 2002

i can't wait to do a garden. i love growing strawberries and cucumbers. i'm going to have to find a way to keep the deer out-hair maybe. my neighbors have an electified fence around there garden but i find that a tad extreme. i don't want to find fried duckies in my backyard either.

juicymango #1.3.1 juicymangoOG 2003

ooh strawberries would be so awesome!! and cucumbers - i love the prickly crispy leaves, haha

beachbum #1.3.1.1 beachbumOG 2002

june + strawberries = fresh smoothie time. can't beat it

socalgal #2 socalgalOG 2003

juicymango #3 juicymangoOG 2003

beachbum #4 beachbumOG 2002

i'm looking forward to digging a pond for my ducks. andrew thinks i'm kidding, but i'm not.

juicymango #4.1 juicymangoOG 2003

beachbum #4.1.1 beachbumOG 2002

haha oh i'm sure it will be crazy. i'll bring skippy-i'm not sure the ducks can make the trip. plus i don't want them pooping all over my khakis. haha

malibu #4.2 malibuOG 2001

hahahh my new boss just moved into hackesttown and their landlords have a duck pond. its hysterical. i love the wild tales of duck adventures. if u get them i am totally coming up to visit,

beachbum #4.2.1 beachbumOG 2002

i love when they shake their tails and quack. sometimes it sounds like they are laughing maniacally. and i want them to follow me around like i'm their mom. my friend said she would help me catch some wild ducklings behind her house in the spring. andrew doesn't understand my fascination but i'm working on it

juicymango #4.2.1.1 juicymangoOG 2003

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

juicymango #5 juicymangoOG 2003

I also think this is a good gardening product for me.

I like the tag line - "Just throw and grow."

juicymango #9.1 juicymangoOG 2003

it would be sweet if that tagline applied to other things in life

web-toedchloe #9.1.1 web-toedchloeOG 2001

I think we should all use it with regard to anything other than gardening today.

Wasssssuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup. Winter rocked!

specialk #11 specialkOG 2003

I don't prefer the outdoors most of the time, because it most likely will require me to be active. However, I DO enjoy the smells of springtime, and seeing the crocuses pop up out of the ground. I even went today and got some springy-smelling candles for my house....can't wait to light them!!!!

tesoro #12 tesoroOG 2001

this journal is getting me so excited for spring/summer. we have a deck and a BBQ this year and i can't wait to grill EVERYTHING! i can't wait to open all the windows in the house & plant flowers in front & i love the idea of those herb balls, i think i'm going to get a few! i can't wait to lay out on the deck in the warm sun...and actually get some color! i'm so white right now! and i'm not worried about waking up super hot in the middle of the night cuz we have central air now! (we endured a whole summer, w/o even a window a/c!) yipppp i can't wait for spring!!

fivezero #12.1 fivezeroOG 2003

thefunkyfresh #13.1.1 thefunkyfreshFounder

hunkpapap #14 hunkpapapOG 2003

something about the winter makes you laugh a little slower, makes you talk a little lower about the things you could not show her..

ilikebirds #15 ilikebirdsOG 2002

I usually only get sick in the winter
