road trip
hiiiiii
So this summer my husband, my broher and I are going to drive to Arizona to see our friends in Phoenix and to visit Maynard's vineyard/winery near Flagstaff, and hopefully hit up the Grand Canyon, and then we're flying home
we're gonna take our time driving there, taking probably 6-7 days and visiting things along the way, we may even veer about day completely off-course to go to Dallas, because we really want to see more of Texas than just passing through "the top" of the state
I'm looking for any information and suggestion on the following cities! For example, if we should avoid a certain place because it's just totally not worth stopping and/or we might die there, tell me.
thanks!
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Columbus, Ohio
Indianapolis, Indiana
St.Louis, Missouri
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Dallas and Amarillo and stuff between them, Texas
Albaquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico
I think our main interests are in New Mexico and Texas, and of course Arizona, but if there are things worth stopping for along the way, we're stopping
I think it would be cool to just fly to Dallas and then drive to Arizona from there because that's what we're most excited about.... but... that would be no fun
basically we are looking for either historic, famous, or otherwise cool and/or bizzare things to take pictures of, and to get interesting and bizzarre souvenirs
TELL ME WHAT YOU KNOW!

You can play Twister in Four States at once!
aw, remember that part in "a walk to remember", where he brings her to the state line and says "see, now you're in two places at once" aw, i love that movie.
*vomit*

no, not yet! i have to!
sadly i only know it from the babysitter sitter club books. a deluxe edidtion of road trip. and kristy's little sister karen insists on going here to be in all four states even tho it's 4 hours out of the way.

Kam this is so cool... see if you can hit up the famous corn palace... I think it is in the mid-west somewhere. Saw it on the very 1st season of Road Rules.
Stuff in pittsburgh, because the musing thread was killed
A couple of cool places to check out:
The Incline, this is pretty much a pully car that runs up and down Mount Washington, at the top you are able to look over the entire city it is a pretty amazing view, and the incline only costs like $2. http://incline.pghfree.net/
If you are into art, there is the Andy Warhol museum, featuring all sorts of sweet Warhol images and other various exhibits. http://www.warhol.org/
If you really are into art check out the mattress factory there http://www.mattress.org/
University of Pittsburgh is obviously in Pittsburgh, the Cathedral of Learning is a pretty sweet thing to see. Looks cool from the outside, and inside, there are different rooms reflecting different cultures. http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=121991
you know what i want to see is South of the Border. My parents never let me go there. I don't even know what's there - is it like Great Adventure, but with Mexicans? Is like a Royal Carribean cruise, but with Mexicanos? WHAT IS IT? Someone just tell me!
dude IIIII dont like going to tijuana....it's not nice. i remember my first trip there when i was a kid....my parents took me to "appreciate what i had" lol but it really is sad....now deep in mexico....awesome.
It's a crappy carnival type joint with fire works and churros
Columbus is cool....it has some decent history, and if you like science, there's a COSI building that is all about that.
Personally, Cincinnati is better. It's pretty much on your way, PLUS free room and board and food (I'm just sayin')....and honestly, I like the Cincy history better. We have decent food (CINCY STYLE CHILI!!!!), and some awesome other places to see. So if you change your mind......hehehe.
When you go to AZ, depending on your exact location, I can recommend a good hall to visit if you're interested. My in-laws live right outside of Phoenix, and they go to a fantastic hall, lots of loving friends.
hmm our friends live right outside of Phoenix, in Avondale, i wonder if they're in the same hall!
I don't know....my in-laws go to Shea Heights, which is in Fountain Hills, closer to Scottsdale.
