Interview 2
by I don't think I showed off my first ever movie, "Interview", because of one "mature" scene. Well, I'm doing another Interview movie and here's a loose shot list:
1] it's dark out, before dawn. a lonely shot. girl jogs by quickly.
2] she sits down, exhausted, and checks her heartrate. she looks around, catching her breathe. takes out a pill and swallows it with a squirt from her water bottle.
3] post-shower, she sits on her bed. looks over a letter from a design company requesting an interview.
4] she begins looking over pictures from her portfolio. several shots of her thoughtfully looking at different pictures, frowning and shaking her head. she lays back on the bed looking helpless.
5] on the table she sees a covered plate with a note next to it that reads "good luck, honey" she takes the plate and empties it into the garbage. she takes a pill.
6] she walks out dressed for the interview, a detirmined attitude apparent, she grabs her portfolio and purse.
7] she waits in a lobby, absently looking around at pictures. her face becomes more and more worried. her eyes blink away tears. mini-anxiety attack. she strides into a bathroom stall, apparently to throw up. she comes out and looks in the mirror annoyed with herself. [note: i may have her mouth the words "i hate you" but i don't know]
8] she sits down in front of an unseen person who extends a hand for a handshake.

9] she walks down a long hallway, clearly upset.
10] jogging again, she returns exhausted. she gets a call. she smiles and chuckles to herself. closes the phone.
11] she sits on her bed and looks at her pictures, smiling happily.

it was an assignment in my film class. had to be 5 minutes and silent. 100% acted, shot, edited by me. one slightly rude gesture. so, if you're very easily offended, don't watch it. i must note that it IS a key part in getting to know the character! Please send me a message for a link to the video.

i think it is a little bit over acted in some parts. like when you take off your tie and throw it on the ground, also when you give the finger to the empire strikes back poster.
the filming looks good, but i don't really like the music very much.
also i think it would be funny if you put the poster back on the wall at the end.
the point of the poster thing... ehhh. it seemed like a good idea at the time... the character is sick of acting like a kid and failing at adult things. so, he thinks taking down a childhood poster will do the trick... after he VERY IMMATURELY gives it the finger. contradictary behavior.
despite his frustration and desire to grow up he still acts like a punk. so, almost everything serves that point. he wants to do well and come up, but he does a lousy job on tying the tie, gives a star wars poster the finger, he misses when throwing the money into the toll booth, he shows up at the building empty handed, he acts like a baby when he doesn't get the job. he's got growing up to do. see now?
Haha... I was fully expecting to see him put the poster back up. I was thoroughly disappointed.
i feel a special edition edit coming on, lol. maybe on the 10th anniversary dvd.

good concept but I think the "self-loathing" is a bit overdone? Especially if she tells herself she hates herself. Like, being nervous, mini-anxiety-attack, etc. yesssss but i duno it seems a biiiit forced to me that it's all happening at once? I duno. it's hard to explain.

lol i duno if it's just me? but it seems like the whole "panic attack, run into the bathroom to throw up" is a guy kind of response. girls, back me up.

haha oh it's silent. I didn't know. Hmm maybe like runs into the bathroom and turns on the cold water as if she's gonna splash her face in it but instead lets the cold water run and just stares at herself in the mirror with an annoyed expression

and then maybe the toilet flushes or someone comes in so she kinda jolts out of it and takes a deep breath, turns off the water, moves on, i duno haha.
how bout pan over to the toilet and theres a big deuce in there... then zoom in real tight on it
HAHAHA! that would be completely unexpected and awesome. i know how to make a hollywood duece too. take 3 snickers bars, 4 peanut butter cups, and a payday and put them in the microwave for 7 seconds. take them out and mold up a good sized log. it looked perfectttt. it definitely would have made me gag if it didn't spell so freaking good.
nice!!! if that's the case, then have her reach in and take a bite... then turn to the camera and say "IT'S DELICIOUS!! MY PERSONAL PROBLEMS ARE RESOLVED!!" - fin annnnddd credits
you've inspired me. i'm going to make a real short movie with a log like that. i'll do it this weekend and post it on monday or tuesday. it looks really GROSS, BUT we DID eat it! shoulda filmed it. actually, i don't know how people would react to watching people eat a chocolate peanuty nougat turd.... we'll see. ian just might scrape that one too, lol.

I like this idea. It's more realistic... but it has been done so many times on film!
i know exactly how my wife has a "melt down", and have asked other women about when that happens to them ... exact same symptoms and actions.
that's been my experience and i don't think i was being over the top either. i'll ask more girls.
hmm yeah its possible that i just never had a true meltdown? haha i duno. or i'm weird.
i dunno i think its pretty realistic. maybe more pacing and compulsive paper shuffling and relooking over papers. i think the throwing up thing is normal. i've had it happen before when i'm supernervous or anxious.
