I'm assuming it is a Witness... not sure what to tell you without knowing the contents of the letter and I'm not going to ask you to make public something like that... the only thing I can suggest is that you pray long and hard to find the proper words to encourage your friend and let Holy Spirit help you in writing it out...

you should try and go visit him/her, bake them cookies, or if those are not possibilities. write them a letter telling them how much you care for them, that never fails. everyone needs to feel loved. if you can't think to write it, call them.
Baking cookies is a nice thing to do. Unless it's for ungrateful blonde boys who don't want to eat them. But bake cookies or send them flowers..or bring flowers to them! Guy or girl, it can always make someone smile and feel cared about.
If that "ungrateful" blonde kid I know doesn't eat your cookies, send them my way.. chocolate chip, sugar and peanut butter cookies are my favorites, but nothing beats a batch of snickerdoodles!
They were suagr cookies, and I don't know if they tasted good or not. I didn't try them, I have a slight fear of my own cooking.

Speaking about letters, I have a story to tell about letters. One day I was sitting in my room pondering over whether it was safe to have a shot of vodka just after I had taken a benaydrl. Well I did anyway. And i'm still alive. But twenty minutes after i had made me decision I looked on the floor and there was this letter. It was the Letter G. So I picked it up and said " Whats Up Gee? " .
