Disposable Paper Cell Phones

iwz by iwz · Mar 9, 2001 · News · 41 views

Saw this on slashdot today and I thought it was very cool... they are coming out with these new cell phones made out paper. Here's a quote from the article:

"This amazing piece of technology, which I tested while huddled against the elements at a train station in New Jersey, is made largely of paper. As a result, it's incredibly cheap. You'll be able to buy one for maybe 10 bucks, and it will come with 60 minutes of air time. When that time runs out, you can throw it away, or just punch a button to add another 60 minutes of time."

Click here to go to the site and read the full story. They have pictures of it too.

Update: Also, check out this page about how it works, from HowStuffWorks.com.

Man...technology. Seems like a step backward to me though, paper?!

Just what we need. Cell phones filling up the nation's landfills! It will make a drug dealer's job a little safer I guess.

yes I've heard about this already though. I've also heard about plastic ones, that you can unfold or roll up.

and I also heard this pretty cool story about how soon, we'll all be able to download and print out new circuit boards or something, instead of buying hardware. something like that.

whoa! that is wack! But i still agree that in today's world of pollution, the last thing we need is more garbage...in my mind, they should shut down this whole operation and unite with the circuit boards to concentrate their efforts on a Cell Phone Recycling Program (CPRP). Or perhaps, downloadable cell phones??? Hmmm.

I think instead of throwing away the paper cell phones, they should be given to the Humane Society so that every time someone gets a new pet for free from them, they can also get a free throw away used cell phone made out of paper and they could unfold the cell phone and use it on the floor so the pet could become litter trained to pee on the paper.

Just a thought.

Or, maybe, Doggie Diapers?
