Teacher, why do I have to salute the flag?

There's a very good editorial on Minneapolis' Star Tribune from a couple of weeks ago. The author talks about his thoughts on making kids salute the flag in school, and recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Here's a quote:

"[...] But why are you so afraid, teacher? Didn't you say that our nation is ''under God''? Doesn't that mean he will protect us from those evil forces?


Not unless we protect ourselves. Which is why we want all of you to say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag each and every day. Buffy?


Do, like, adults have to say the Pledge every day, too, at work?


Not yet. But we're working on that. [...]"
