The Great (and not so great) Fast Food of the Past!
I was remembering over the weekend some of the great fast food joints from years ago that aren't around (at least not here) anymore...
Brian and a couple other may remember Gino's (Freedom of Choice was their logo), Burger Chef (Real third rate stuff), Jack In The Box (which isn't here anymore, but they are in California and a few other states), Roy Rogers (there IS one in the Livingston Mall... YES!), Hardee's I don't see much around here but their jingle was "Hurry on down to Hardee's where the burgers are charcoal broiled" and a couple of place...
McDonalds and Burger King had some great stuff in the past... BK had a burger called the "Big American" which I think was either 1/4 or 1/3 pound (I was 11 when I had one... can't rememebr exactly how big it was) and they sold "Ice Burgrrs" which were like those Minute Maid ice pops, small and thick and triangular... Mickey D's had those awesome McRib sandwiches and they fries are so different since they don't fry them in beef tallow anymore...
Does anyone have fond memories of fast food???

FAST FOOD IS FOR FATTIES!!!!!
You know this article stirred a lot of feelings in me...I love Wendy's chilli, simply because it can be made incredibly spicy and yet is low-fat. (just don't get it with cheese). One of my classic favorites was the McDLT- it had the lettuce and tomato on one side, and the burger on the other. You made it yourself! Veeeery nice.
i loved the DLT. i worked at mcD's when they had those. it became too difficult to keep one side hot and one side cold. somehow, the cheese would end up melting while sitting in the warmer.
hahahaha, i was just gonna say, you wanna know about fast food? ask mike, he's a fast food guru! i vividly remember getting into mikes car one time and there was like 20 empty mcdonalds and burger kind bags in the back!
you are SUCHA liar matt!!!!! i dont even EAT fast food anymore!!!!
that was a while ago. and you do eat better, i just like to bust on ya. but truth be told, you were with us at friendly's just last week.
thats not fast food you PUTZ... and the truth being told, i got a SALAD!!!!!
you're a junkie and you know it! come on man, we feel your pain. admitting the problem is the first step to recovery! now hand over that whopper and let's talk about this
matt, im gonna sit on your head!
I'm a big fan of White Castle even though there aren't many around here.
white castle? what about your belovéd chicken nuggets from Wendy? you know, the ones you have to eat for a meal at least once a day.
Shush. I love wendy's nuggets BUT wendy's chicken sandwhiches (club..no bacon and not spicey) to me are the best food ever created save for japanese food. Not only is it yummy good chicken with tomato/lettuce/mayo BUT it's also a little crunchy and crunchy food is just more fun to eat!
my mom used to take me to the white castle in rahway all the time. i loved sitting by the window and watching the traffic on route one. ahh, simple pleasures of a 4-yr old.
i always remember white castle b/c one time on a way home from jersey city, (i had to be like 8) and my family stopped at white castle. i was asleep but they got me stuff. but yall know how small those burgers are and they ended up eating them all and i never got any. we haven't gone back since then and whenever i see one i just wanna stop and get something to make-up for it.
Golden Skillet. mmmm mmm mmm I don't know if there's ever been any in the states but it used to be an awesome chain in Puerto Rico. The best chicken fingers and corn-on-the-cob. It wasn't greasy at all unlike K.Fake.C.
YESSSS!!! There is a Golden Skillet in Hackettstown, not too far from me and right around the corner from rocksupastar! I love that place (now I know what to do for lunch... thanks!!!! (The GS by us also features Stewarts Root Beer on tap... soooooo good!)
NO WAY! I love that place. I might just take a ride over...wowhooo! (For all those who don't understand our excitement, you haven't lived. It's the best food ever.)
Yeah, I just hope it's the same chain... their fried chicken is the best and they have mashed potatoes that have gravy with little bits of chicken in it...
That is the creepiest place alive. I am thinking of the right place, right? The half stewarts thing. Yeah..it's creepy. YOu could never pay me enough money to go in their ever again.
That's the place... awesome food...
i just wanna let you know that the minute maid pops are still sold at mcdonalds & the BEEEEEEEEEEEST is the 25 cent ice cream cones!!! They sell them still at mcedees!
1 word: KENNY ROGER'S ROASTERS. The best barbecue rotisserie chicken EVVER. You could get a pita stuffed with pieces of the barbecue chicken that melted in your mouth it was so good.

There is this place by me called White Rose, me and thai took a 2 am in the morn trip there once, THAT is THE best fast food place ever, well grease truck stop if you will.. There food is SO PROMPT, Steammy WARM,not burn your tounge out of your mouth hot, I HATE THAT, and always Phenominal tasting!
i do loves the white rose. and speaking of grease trucks, i hear the grease trucks in new brunswick are totally fab. i haven't been there yet myself.
lol, dave. when i saw the heading on 'fast food' i first thought 'i wonder if anyone remembers gino's?' lol...i remember one of them when i lived down the shore (that's bradley beach for you land-locked people). it was right on the circle (which they don't have much of either). i seem to remember it turning into a kentucky fried chicken at one point. did kfc buy out gino's?
They featured KFC towards the end of their existence... it was the only place around here that you could get KFC til KFC built their own places in our area...
THAT explains it.
did u ever hear anything about KFC's not being able to call their food "chicken" because they use genetically altered chicken? it's probably one of those stupid rumors. after someone told me that, i realized that all the advertisements say "KFC" and not "Kentucky Fried Chicken". Then, I was in one of their stores in perth amboy, and they had a sign along the wall above the register, "Kitchen For Chicken". wierd, huh?
HAHA, yeah I heard that same thing, and when i would pass by a kfc i would look to see if it said chicken, and never!
It's a rumor... I'm going to give you a URL for a great Urban Legends and Rumor site for your links things soon..
only if u find reference to kfc on that site
haha. I hardly even use our site. It was the home page on the laptop they gave me, but then I switched it cause the pop-up and animated ads were so annoying.
thanks for clearing that up. i thought ian was saying you worked for kfc!
Dean works for about.com??? YES!!! Anyway, yeah, that's the site I was going to reference... I love that site!
for sandwiches, i love tastee's sub shop. there's one in edison. the most amazing thing is how fast they are! the line could be out the door, but you only spend 5 mins. waiting. they've got some production setup.
oh my word you are so right!!! tasties is the most amazing sub shop EVER!
