Pitchfork has their Top 50 2005 list up.

There's some great stuff on the list, but I haven't even heard of most of the stuff. What do you guys think? Like a lot of the artists that made the cut?
Who are your own top albums or artists for 2005?

i dont reconize ANY of these artists... lol
haha, yeah, i only know about 15 or so..
I know like 3 of those bands and I think they all suck. Pitchfork used to be much more rock/alternative/punk related, but aren't a lot of those bands hip hop? I know everyone here likes Kanye West, but I think he's hurrendous.
and i think that's why you don't get it
I hate Kanye west!
kanye west doesn't care about white people . . . wait . . .
does anyone watch the soup on E... "president bush doesn't careabout muppetts..."
Haha I saw that!
Broke Back Kong
ok M.I.A does not deserve to be #3 on this list.....they opened for gwen and they were HORRIBLE!
A whole bunch of top 10 album lists:

I think I will be downloading Illinois, everyone can't be wrong.
a side bar about Illinois:
why is is illinoisE on the album cover, but illinois (no e) on all the lists, that confuses me.
because the "se" is silent, silly
thanx
who the heck are these artists. these are the most obscure albums. not saying theyre bad, but pitchfork is so obviously pro-obscure-indie rock. they have absolutely no genre changing except for the occasional hip hop and VERY occasional sometimes-radio-friendly, fiona apple type semi-pop album. and i dont even know all of the bands, i just can tell theyre indie. not that its not good. just expand your horizons. like what about alkaline trio's album? lagwagons? millencolin?
Obscure, how? As in something you know you won't like? Remember what you were told as a child.. don't refuse to eat your peas before you even have a bite. In defense of music, I would like to add that for one, "indie" is not exactly a genre. And, Pitchfork is just letting people know that good music isn't based on sales, like how some depend on Billboard to show them. Pitchfork is an opinion, so they can write or not write about whatever music they enjoy or don't enjoy. Unless they mess up factual data about an artist that one might like, who can care.
im not a big fan of indie music... just never really catches my attention.
no i know. i dont mean i wont like it. i like a lot of it. obscure meaning bands nobodys ever heard of. the only qualm about the whole indie movement is that websites like this seem so pretentious about it. as if they get some sort of brownie points by naming some band nobody has ever heard of. all of this indie culture seems very above everyone else and pretentious, as i said. i like a lot of the music, im just not an "indie kid," because if i was, i'd like no other music but the decemberists and death cab for cutie.
AMEN! See if i said this i'd get jumped for it...
I didn't mean to sound attacking before.. afterwards I kinda regretted sounding too defensive. I will say that the bands that Pitchfork has listed, are rising bands. (I'm not even a Pitchfork reader.. don't know why I'm talking right now.) And, just probably haven't been recognised yet worldwide are even just nationwide. But, it's not like these are all "lo-fi" groups with "unconventional" sounds. My Morning Jacket's parent label is Sony BMG, hardly a mom & pop label. Franz Ferdinand is a mult-million copy (1st album sold over 3.5 mil I think) selling band across the world (including the 1 million copies of the first album sold in the US and 200,000+ of the 2nd album so far) & has won the Mercury Prize & are distributed by major company Epic I believe. I won't go on. . I'm done. haha. I don't know where Pitchfork writes out of, but perhaps these bands are more well-known in their locale than "here." And, maybe they don't even realise that the bands on their list are not too recognisable. But, with college radio and Sirius and XM and internet radio stations, these bands are at least known to those worlds. And, I know at least some of them have played on the late night shows as well.
Well Franz Ferdinand and My Morning Jacket I recognize. It's not you being defensive, I'm just saying Pitchfork isn't my music review site of choice because they seem to be locked in to one type of music.
these are bands i have heard of on pitchforks top 50

Only 19 out of 50. I thought i knew a lot of music too. Guess not.
Fair enough. I actually don't favour any review website, 'cause any review website is gonna be biased on their personal tastes. I sometimes will check up on www.thisisfakediy.co.uk to read about music news, but that's about all. I discover most of my new listening usually through emusic.com (which is not a "review" website), a music download website that i subscribe to, because they seem to be more neutral than any other site I've come across.
oh, and on the metacritic website, download beauty and the beat by edan. its sweet. i want to find the clean version though. i downloaded the album but its got some language so i got rid of it. if anyone gets the clean, please upload to ftp would be great!
I agree with Pitchfork on Okkervil River 's Black Sheep Boy & My Morning Jacket 's Z. Franz Ferdinand I like, but haven't actually heard their 2005 album.
Other 2005 albums I would say are really good are A Northern Chorus 's Bitter Hands Resign and Mike Doughty 's Haughty Melodic. That's all I can recall at this time.
Let's see. . I'm thankful for Metacritic & Mojo recognising Z by My Morning Jacket. That's really grreat. And, Metacritic lists Black Sheep Boy by Okkervil River, another agreement of mine, good. Extraordinary Machine by Fiona Apple is good like Metacritic and Rolling Stone and Spin claim. Oh, Takk... by Sigur Rós (absolutely excellent when I saw them in September & I'm all set to see them in February - can't wait), almost forgot that as a 2005 album. Excellent. So on those I agree with metacritic. Before I neglected to mention Some Cities by Doves (they were amazing when I saw them live in March).. I think that was a 2005 release. Yes, Some Cities by Doves is on Under the Radar's 2005 list.
Cokemachineglow and Kevin Bronson of the Los Angeles Times and Popmatters lists Gimme Fiction by Spoon which I agree on. I haven't heard all of Funeral by Arcade Fire or all of Employment by Kaiser Chiefs, but what I've heard is nnice & catchy.
Christopher Bahn of The Onion AV Club lists In The Reins by Iron & Wine + Calexico & (I had forgotten that the New Low was a 2005 release) The Great Destroyer by Low. Two great picks those are. Especially, the new Low, who always put out an excellent album.
End Of Love by Clem Snide is a Josh Modell/Onion pick. Good. Murray and Phipps have the Morning Jacket pick. I'm overwhelmed with how many critics like the new Morning Jacket. Terrific. Playlouder likes the new Arcade Fire. Coo.
Popmatters and Prefix likes the Okkervil River release; nnice.
And what's this, oh wow, Rolling Stone recognises My Morning Jacket.
I've heard the James Blunt single but nothing else from the album, but Q says it's their pick.
Love Kraft by Super Furry Animals.. didn't know that was a 2005, but it made Under the Radar's picks.
And, Franz Ferdinand makes the Uncut's 2005 list.
So, those are my agreements :)
I just discovered "The Boy Least Likely To" and am loving them.
