the beach are pure white sand, with clear blue water. with amazing scenery. dude the mexican riviera is 20 minutes away. it's awesome during the day.. you can swim with dolphins, explore rain forests.. and at night you can party till the cows come home.. i think thats the appeal of cancun it's exotic beauty mixed with it's urge to party.
i think it depends on the resort. i know two couples that went. one had a great time. the other couple arrived only to find out that their hotel was being renovated and really cruddy. so, they didn't have a good time.
