i play every position. i used to be a goalie too, which i loved. now i like center the best, but also like defense, and wing is fine too.
Someone I play with did the same thing. He used to play goalie then he played a forward a couple of times and started playing center. After that he always wanted to play center. The only difference is that's pretty much the only position he plays anymore.
i tried to play goalie, the gear was jsut not me! lol, kept falling. I like defense too, i love getting in the mix
Yeah well most goalie equipment isn't shall we say made for girls to wear very comfortably.
exactly, but the best female goalie EVER - manon rheume....i got to play hockey with her and she's amazing!
Wow that's cool. I don't know who she's is I don't tend to get much news about womens hockey around here. Though the womens us olympic hockey team was amazing. It was just as good as watching the male team.
she's the first female to ever play an NHL game, it was back in the late 90's, i think 96, she played with one of the florida teams. her bro is Pascal Rheumme who plays on the NJ devils...
Oh that's right I remember that. I can't believe I forgot about that. yeah that was a big deal when it happened. Did you play in an actual game with her like a league game or what?
I used to work for Mission Hockey and she worked there also, starting the girls hockey line. Anyway, our team needed an extra player adn she said she would sub. needless to say we won and we always had a friday morning pick up game and she would play with us, along with some other NHLers, so it was always a fun time!
Now that's awsome. Not only did you get to meet them you actually got to play with them. Oh man I'm so Jealous.
I think the most stoked was getting a phone call from Jarri Kuri. The Intl sales Mgr set it up....
LOL well if y ou're ever in So Cal let me know and I'll take you to Mission. I've been fortunate in the industry(ies) i've been in. I jsut take it as it comes as one day it can be all gone, I appreciate what i have come across. I've been fortunate to be at the right place at the right time
She played the first game that the Tampa Bay Lightning ever played. It was a total media hype game, but she is a good goalie. It's a shame she was dropped.
She did play for the Jersey Rock'n Rollers roller hockey team for a bit. I don't know what she does now.
that's when i saw her ... at a signing for the rockin rollers. i think she got married to one of the players...or got pregnant or something...i can't remember the whole story
That team still exist? How were the games? Tickets Cheap?
We had season tickets to the XFL Hitmen, the experiance was a blast.
she got married adn is now divorced and has a little boy, like 4 or 5 years old and he speaks french....it's SO cute!
I don't know what she's doing as of this year but last year (ad the few years prior)she was working with Mission Hockey getting the girls line started, Mission Betty's and she wont dress up in goal, once she retired she retired in goal.
i tried it once also and the same thing happened. the equipment was like dripping off me. and it was scary gross inside my brothers goalie helmet. they did tell me i was the best smelling goalie they ever had though. haha
OMG I am DYING over that comment! You are so right, the gear stinks, guys gear stinks! Even though i play rough, i'm still girly, the guys gravitate to me when i'm on the bench, i'm like get away....they're like "you smell pretty" uh maybe cause i wash my gear and not jsut air it out!
Moral, even though we play with the guys doesn't mean we have to smell like them! lol
You wash your gear?!? LOL, that's so funny, when I played ice hockey I never washed my gear. My bag had that lovely aroma, it's quite enticing. They should make a colonge like that.
I wash ALL my gear, I don't wanna stink, i can't stand the thought.
We had stickers all over @ Mission that said "I love the smell of hockey" etc...
hahaha quite enticing-not exactly the word i would've used. the best bill did was spray lysol into the helmet every once in a while. but i don't think there was enough lysol in the world to kill what was in there.
LOL thats hysterical....
Yeah and it would be called Ureeka.
Yeah well by the time we are done playing I usually barely have enough energy to get my equipment off let alone clean all of it. Half the time I leave my stuff in my car because I'm just to tired to bring it into the house.
not me, it could be a late game (sometimes they can end around 12ish am) but i have to lug it in and wash....yeah i'm anal
We only play pickup games around here and they usually start around 2:00 and go till well past dark (that is of course if the lights bother to come on) and your playing the entire time so we are all pretty wiped by the time we are done.
wow so its not set times, like 8:00 game against blah blah blah? wow...
Yeah that's the way we work it none of us would have time to play in a league it's hard enough getting pickup games together as it is.
yeah it's more convenient to play at our own time schedule. then also we can play as long as we want, just switch up teams now and then. though we play serious, it's just for fun so it's not one set team against another set team.
Also that way you get to play with different people. It's fun when me and Bill are on the same team our chemistry on the ice is usually pretty good. It sure was yesterday.
true. although some people work better together than others. i hate when we've got a solid team that flows so well and then we have to switch
you have to be in leagues to play for ice there's pick up games on friday evenings, other than that you're outta luck, unlessw you play roller on the outdoor rinks.
I've been fortunate though cause the guys at mission skate on wed & friday mornings, so we either get the ice rink or the roller rink @ the gretzsky center
We actually do play at the outdoor rinks there are about 6 around here to play at.
we don't have many outdoor rinks that are "free" per se.
I lvoe playing in the early mornings when it's cool and you're SO hot you change and you feel the coolness...
One of the main reasons we play at outdoor rinks is because there are so many and it's free to play there. The one thing that stinks is that in the summer when it's really hot it's hard to play and if you do you die.
Nah, it can be really good!
It's got it's upsides and down sides. Though mostly downs. If it's like over 100 it's impossible to play the goalies get overheated and dehydrated in 2 minutes so when it's that hot we can't play.
10 years ago when I was playing regularly we always played ice hockey at midnight on Fridays. I still know a few who play in a league, but I don't have the time or the skill for that anymore. I don't even have my equipment anymore.
Those were pick up teams but there was always enough to play. On the rare occasion we'd even have 4 goalies show up.
Yeah well look who we played with that's really not saying much.
Wait a minute did I just accidently make a crack on myself......
hahaha yeah. that was back in the days when we played w/ steve, sean, manzi, and frankie danger.
Oh yeah I forgot about them. They were a riot. Franky (legs) Rafalko. Steve one handed ??(don't know last name) then there was Maznie aka Pocahontas. lol.
hahahaha pocahontas. i almost forgot about that. man he got amazingly good.
Yeah I know I was shocked the last time I saw him play. He's made vast improvements.
i can't remember steve's last name but it's on the tip of my tongue. i just remember me and bill always made fun of his ghetto car horn
Yeah that was pretty funny. You remember how he never used the back hand and he would just flip the stick around. It was very strange then the way he would always play with just one hand on the stick like all the time.
Ah the good old days. Good times.
