i don't care HOW it was described, he just WAS whiny. crying about drugs into a microphone isn't necessarily emo, but it's still lame.
nirvana's greatness came from their ability to convince everyone to wear dirty, grimy, clothes and make it a fashion statement. WHY ALL THE FLANNEL. I don't understand. So lame.
ok that is completely falsified. Kurt's music was not "ALL" about drugs. Read his journals. He had a fixation on the impulses of teen angst in the beginning of his musical career. However his music started being drawn towards issues like racism, sexism, politics, and his invasion of privacy. Kurt was not an outgoing person and his lonely infatuation is a big thing that drew others to his music because he spoke about it. The flannel clothes and all ripped jeans and all that other fashion stuff was just the clothing he was accustomed to wearing growing up in the Pacific Northwest. Look at a lot of the original bands such as Green River, Mudhoney or The Melvins and you will see that the music created there was not about a fashion statement. It was just a reaction to the crummy 80's spandex rock bands that were out. The roots of that music is heavily in bands from the late 60's and 70's such as Led Zepellin, The Ramones, Beatles, and the band Alice in Chains were actually heavily rooted in country music.
Ooh, I still love Green River. Whenever I put Temple of the Dog or Mother Love Bone in my CD player, I can't get them out for like, months.
haha wow. Interesting. I take it your a PJ fan.
Temple of the Dog was awesome
the new Pearl Jam fan club record has all the original members performing together for Hunger Strike I believe.
Ah well at least they didn't sell out like rancid, that was meant for superheros comment
haha, come on, if a band makes "fun" music and "money", suddenly they are sell-outs?
