I think Alkaline Trio is def more poppy then they used to be... I respect bands like Face to Face and No Use, they NEVER changed their style. In contrast, Brand New, who started out pop/punk has tu...
I think both bands changed quite a bit. Listen to NUFAN's first cd...the one before "leche con carne". they've smoothed out over the years. The transition has been very smooth (and I can't wait to hear their next CD, coming out soon). But if you were compare their first CD to Hard Rock Bottom...you'd see a HUGE difference. (IMO)They have never sold out. They've only grown.
Same exact thing is true of Lagwagon. Their "Duh" is awesome, but it's quite different than "Blaze", but their transition has been smooth. (IMO)They have never sold out. They've only grown.
Face to Face did not have smooth transitions. When they came out with "Ignorance is Bliss". It was a whole new thing--much softer. ** Now it's their music, and they can go in any direction they want. I personally feel this album was a huge disappointment. I felt betrayed. I hated the direction they went in.
(**it was mentioned earlier that "big choice" was a let down, but it wasn't. That was F2F's 2nd album, and one of their best. I started listening to F2F around the time their 3rd album dropped. That was something like 11 years ago. I don't think you guys even knew who they were when that came out.)
Oddly enough, their decision to put this album out was the complete opposite of selling out. Fortunately.... F2F loved their old fans, and came back to that style. This may or may not be considered selling out. To me, they didn't have the same sound anymore, but it WAS more like the older stuff. I have mixed opinions on this one. I feel that F2F actually DID sell out. But I'm glad they did, or else I wouldn't have gotten more great music that I love from F2F.
sorry.... i meant "ignorance is bliss" when i said "big choice"
just making sure. :)
I guess you guys are right, but i still think you can pick up any album from F2F or Nufan and say... oh... this is "whatever". ya know? bands that sell out, you can hardly tell its them when they change, thats what im talking about.
seriously... listen to JEWs earlier albums and then listen to their newest ones. its unrecognizable. Their old stuff is closer to pennywise, its just regular old punk, it was actually pretty cool. if i hadn't known it was JEW i was listening to, I wouldn't have even guessed. I like their new stuff now though too.
hmmm good point, jew DOES sound ALOT dif from their earlier albums... but yeah i like their new stuff too... i dunno... the whole music thing and selling out thing is soo confusing... i guess in the end it doesnt matter... just listen to what you like.

i said in here before but what i was originally talking about bands changing their music wasn't selling out. it was just bands changing up their style but still being good
