What do you want out of it that you can't get by just keeping the MP3s on your PC?

superhero Aug 30, 2005

uh, i do want to keep the mp3s on my pc ... and sync using my laptop. the PC doesn't have enough USB ports, stupidly enough .... and is prone to crashing under moderate use. but the hard drive is b...

Oh, ok. Just map a drive to the other computer with the MP3s on it. Then drop them into iTunes. Works no problem.

superhero Aug 30, 2005

ok. that's what i wanted to know, sir. thank you may i have another!

um, having an mp3 server is cooler then mapping a drive... ians just mad he cant do that...

But in all seriousness, you running wireless in ur place? B or G? Running B with neighbors you will have latency issues. Say if your host pc with the music is in one end of the house and ur laptop is with you in the bathroom on the otherside, you will get intermittent lag and such. OR if ur lovely wife to be is using the host machine for heavy duty processor work, IE photo editing or whatever you will experience lag as well. Server that is centeralized and a dedicated broadcasting server would def work and be cooler.

you said, like, a lot of stuff, but, like... you didn't say anything at all. that's pretty sad dude.

true, TLDR, RockSupastar knows his wireless junk...

having a server storing mp3's that you can remote desktop into has a advantage in a wireless enviroment. hence, in the above stated question of "should i get a mp3 server" i would respond with a "HECK YEAH"!!! in my best Napoleon voice. Mapping a drive is an advantage for data in a corporate enviroment, network drives are so 97, get with it Zabel... its all about remote storage now adays.

Wow, this is a surprising insightful and intellegent statment. I wish I had your understanding of network design and wireless connectivity!

haha, thank you for making my comment even more sarcastic than it originally was hahah

We have a dedicated server... jealous???

rocksupastar rocksupastarFounder

well according to ian, that is a huge waste of time and money, lol.

iwz iwz

Haha, I never said that, brah.

An MP3 server is a great idea. Especially if it's hooked up wirelessly to your network. BUT YOU STILL HAVE TO MAP A DRIVE IF YOU WANT TO USE IT WITH iTUNES!

rocksupastar rocksupastarFounder

dude... give it up with this whole drive mapping thing....
