then here is what they have figured out so far on lost-forum.com

spoileriffic

what a waste of time this speculation is, really, the creators of this show are geniuses, GENIUSESESEESESES

So that folks don’t keep posting the same things over and over again ad nauseum, here’s my own take on a summary/analysis of what we know and what we don’t know thus far about the drawing on the door. I won’t address theories about Gale, the supply drop, or other stuff, since that’s really beyond the scope of this thread. And, please forgive me if I state things that are (or should be) obvious. It’s more to get all the facts in one place, rather than assume people know. Also, please don’t quibble with my usage of terms here, unless you think they’re wildly inaccurate.

Feel free to add to, subtract from, or modify this.

What we know (or think we know)

• The drawing on the door was done in ultraviolet-only ink
• There is more than one style of handwriting on the door, implying that more than one person contributed to the drawing.
• There are several different things drawn around the centerpoint. Given that one is labeled the Swan, one the Staff, and one the Arrow, we can infer that the others are also hatches, like those first three.
• Given that the drawing is on the back of the door, it could likely only be done while the door is in the down/closed position.
• Given that the door likely only closes periodically, and given that there is more than one style of handwriting, we can infer that the drawing was done by different people at different times over a long period of time.
• The extent of the drawing implies that the author(s) of the drawing have either been on the island a long time, have done a great amount of exploration, or have access to a body of knowledge unknown to the Losties and us.
• There are two hatches drawn with dashes at the 2 o’clock and 3 o’clock positions. We can presume that these have not been discovered by the author(s) of the drawing, but are suspected to exist.
• There is one hatch at the 8 o’clock position drawn with solid lines, but which has not yet been seen by us labeled “The Flame.” We can infer that its existence is known to the author(s) of the drawing, but not to the Losties.
• There are several mathematical/scientific formulas on the drawing, which are believed to relate to phsyics/calculus/magnetism.
• There are many notes relating to the Dharma Initiative, including references to an intranet, infrastructure, Dharmatel, DIHG, etc. that imply the author(s) have more than a passing knowledge of the Dharma Initiative, it’s organization and structure, its capabilities, its believed purpose/mission/goals, and its location.
• There are many notes in Latin written in a different handwriting style than those relating to the Dharma Initiative, the purpose and relevance of which are unknown.
• There are several lines on the drawing that imply that the map of the known and suspected hatches are drawn overtop/in conjunction with a topographical map of all or part of the island.

What we don’t know, or don’t have enough information about

• The author(s) of the drawing are unknown
• The purpose of the drawing is unknown
• The data and method of collection from which the drawing was created is unknown
• The reason for it being on the back of the door is unknown
• The reason for it being in ultraviolet ink is unknown
• The drawing’s age is unknown
• There are several notations on the drawing to CV (CVI, CVII, CVIII, CVIV, etc). It is unkown whether these are all roman numerals, or if the “CV” refers to something else (Containment Vessel, Core Vent, etc).
• The lines drawn connecting various hatches with each other are of unknown purpose and reference.
• The “incident” referred to in several of the notes is unknown.
• It’s unknown what the centerpoint with the question mark is.
• It’s unknown what the X’s are at the end of the various tunnels at the hatches (presumably, they’re dead ends in underground tunnels)
• It’s unknown what the octagon denotes – whether it’s the island’s boundaries itself, whether some other boundary, or whether it’s just a convenient framework in which the hatches exist.
• It’s unknown what the dates/numbers/equations refer to.
• It’s unknown why the previously drawn hatch at 11 o’clock is scratched out.
• It’s unknown what many of the abbreviations stand for (DIHG, MDG, CV)

Latin Translations

• Malum Consilium Quod Mutari No Potest = Evil advice what change cannot (can't make sense of it... What evil advice cannot change? What evil advice could not change?)
• Cogito Ergo Doleo = I think therefore I am depressed
• Aegrescit Medendo = The treatment is worse than the disease
• Credo Nos In Fluctu Eodem Esse = I think we're on the same wavelength
• Ut Sit Magna, Tamen Certe Lenta Ira Deorum Est = The wrath of the gods may be great, but it certainly is slow
• Sursum Corda = Lift up your hearts (to God)
• Nil Actum Reputa Si Quid Superest Agendum - Don't consider that anything has been done if anything is left to be done.
• Liberte Te Ex Infernus = Save Yourself from Hell
• Aeg Exit Montendo=? not sure
