1. Mike, you are NOT allowed to judge lyrics. Good lyrics are poetry, and when was the last time you read a poem? Case closed - you're not the judge.
2. It IS annoying that little kids on corners think they know what "punk" means because they listen to blink and wear torn clothing. The whole idea of being "punk", originally, in London in the 70's, was to rebel against the conformity of that culture. If all the idiot kids dress alike, even "punk", they're not rebelling against anything. It would be more of a statement to wear polo shirts.
3. Rolling stone is not critical of music. They may review what's hot right now, but they'll never admit that today's bands are more talented and innovative then, say, the beatles or led zeppelin.
Further, I think we can both agree that Katie and I have been to WAY MORE shows than you, so don't preach to Alex. You don't have to defend the music you like, it's ok to like stupid songs sometimes. Just don't try to defend it and say it's "punk" when it's clearly not different from every other band on the radio. If you take away the lead singer's voice, can you tell one of the bands Alex listed from another? I can't, and that's why they suck.
Today's music is garbage. There's some good stuff here and there, but music is not what it once was.
indeed
haha here's one of the lyrics mike used to rock out to:
"this is the story of a girl, who cried a river and drowned the whole world, and though she looked so good in photographs I absolutely want to kill myselffffffff"
HAHAHA
lol matt was too lazy too look up the lyrics to that 9 Days song, lol
1. hahah, first of all, you have no idea what poetry i have and havent read, case opened, the book thrown at you and THEN reclosed.
2. I am not here to tell people what IS an ISNT punk, nor do i care, all im saying is this is what i like, and you can like what you like.
3. Um... Rolling Stone is one of the biggest music magazines out there with alot of information of what is going on in the music scene. And yes they do, try picking up a Rolling Stone and reading it instead of reading whatever emo poetry, or VS catalogs that you read.
And no, katie hasnt gone to any shows in like the last 2 or 3 years... and unless youve been going out to some CRAZY amount of shows in Hicksville PA.. .i doubt you have either. I have been to more shows in the past 3 years then i ever did when we would do the local shows back in the day.
emo poetry and VS catalogs! HAHAHAHA!
1. Ok, what was the last poem you read?
2. You are saying the bands you like are "punk"; you're trying to defend what you listen to to the rest of us, but I gotta tell you - no one cares what you listen to!
3. I subscribed to RS for like 5 years. They roll with the tide, as does every other music critic. Even though music for the last few years has sucked, do they stop giving out grammys? No. All I'm saying is that it's not better than Social D and Black Flag. The majority of music today is not inventive, and the bands cited above are at the top of the "non-Innovative" list.
Are you really trying to make up for the fact that your mommy wouldn't let you stay out past 11 and go to shows when you were a teenager? The scene Katie and I were into is completely dead, and no shows you go to now, or in the past 3 years could ever compare.
mike = PWN'T
Show me where I defend anything that I listen to is or ISNT punk....
lol... dude... you are talking about going to LOCAL shows in the scene 4 years ago, im talking about going to big shows at Irving... whats the last show YOU went to?
and you can argue this till ur blue in the face, but I still go to shows, and you dont, so I dont really care what you say about music. Im out seeing shows and you are home cooking food and talking about mortgages...
Dude, you're 23 and trying to hang on to being 17. I go to shows by bands I like, that are new and interesting. I saw Channels a few months ago in Philly. You'll go to any show you hear of because you're "allowed to" now. My point is that most bands now suck, so it doesn't matter how many recent shows you've been to.
whats better, me enjoying my age or you acting like you're 50?
I go to the shows I want to go to...
This is what im saying, you dont even KNOW of any of the bands NOW, you watch some tv and think you know something about the scene... sitting at home knitting and watching MTV2 doesnt give you the right to pretend like you know what you are talking about.
Hahaha ur such a loser! I don't feel the need to make up for my "lost youth", because I had a youth, and it was awesome. Now I'm happily married and I love the bands I listen to. You're just obsessed with not acting your age. What's up with that?
lol ok when did we change from music to critiqing my life.
First of all, its none of your business HOW i act. I can wear diapers and call people pooppyheads and you STILL have no right to say anything to me about it. I act the way I want to act. Period. End of story
Just because you feel like the way YOU act is mature or the way people should act doesnt mean jack to me. I dont care if im nothing like anyone else you know, because its me, and i like it.
If you cant handle me cracking jokes about how lame you all are, or trying to french kiss your chocolate fountain, thats fine by me. But atleast im not trying to fit myself into some lame "mature" mold that you are trying to do. I do my thing, and i do it well.
I do my thing too. And obviously YOU can't handle any kind of statements about your life. I still have a chocolate fountain and you don't!
lol yeah... your thing is the SAME thing as everyone ELSES thing... its cool, really... when i wanna kill myself.
i only used ur chocolate fountain for one night... and now im done with it... it was a one night stand for me, it meant nothing. I moved on... i bet it still craves me tho...
Are you going to shows alone? Is anyone else there? Obviously you're the one who's doing what the masses are, not me.
And my chocolate fountain has moved on. It doesn't want your dirty lips anymore.
so the fact that alot of people go to the same shows as me means.... what?
well your fountain got alot more then my lips... believe me.
**you do fight dirty, you are lucky that i am nice and hold back alot cause we are on a website read by people who dont know you....**
Is that some sort of threat?
OH SNAP I THINK IT IS!
you can take it however you want. I mean i could really threaten you and just sit on you, but i wont because... um... hmm well i cant come up with a good reason why NOT to sit on you... maybe to shut you up.
Well, what if I have taco bell then sit on you!?
good luck eating it before i steal it from you...
So it's a taco eating contest now, huh? Just name the place and the nearest bathroom.
lol besides being grossed out... im game, lol
and again, when in ur LIFE have you ever won anything when it was against me?
honestly.
Not being a loser. I've won at that.
*snicker*
No more wasabi on a spoon, Mike?
Yeah Mike needs to add to that 252 pounds of hunkness....
punk isn't punk just because a record label or music store puts the band or cd in a punk section/category. none of us can really define which bands are or aren't punk (it's all opinion), but this was dictionary.com's definition: rock music with deliberately offensive lyrics expressing anger and social alienation; in part a reaction against progressive rock. the bands alex mentioned don't have that attitude overall.
also a big show doesn't neccessarily mean it's a good show. the bands playing at irving aren't really the "scene" bands. for the ny scene: try going to knitting factory, southpaw, or townhall. and if punk really had a scene would it still be punk?? i think that would totally negate the definition of pure punk.
I concur. Take the Sex Pistols? They hated music labels so much they "swindled" two of them and then only made one record, expressing their distaste. That's the true definition of punk.
