I have jaws in obedience training he is doing really good. He was really good prior to training so that helps.
But if you want I can share with you what we do weekly.
Main thing is you have to show your dog you are the boss and he has to listen to you.
Train him with a leash. & don't let them lolly-gag around the house unless you have the time to watch them. Keep him in a cage.
I have jaws out always, even when i am working i am always keeping my eye on him, but when i don't have the time he goes in the cage.
Are you just looking to have him listen as far as, stay , sit, down, heel, long stays, long sits, long downs?
Yeah, our boys are cage-trained, and they do really well with it. It was a great way to help housebreak them too.
They know sit already, and are good at it when they want to be. The problem with dachshunds though, is that they are one of the hardest breeds to train, because they are extremely stubborn. They tend to listen when they want. I just want to get to a point where I'm not having to shout at my dog to do something, because he's completely ignoring me and doing the exact opposite of what I want, when I know that HE knows what I want him to do.
I love them, but oh man....frustrating.
you have to train him by the collar.
in other words, this is what we were tained to do.
Sit down , Sit down
kneel next to your dog,
your left hand in his collar , treat in the other.
guide your dowg down by the collar, with the treat in the otehr so he knows he gets a reward for what he does, then bring him right back up to a sit position,
repeat 3 times.
then praise him
practice every day
by training him by the collar you are showing you are the boss you direct his moves
if he goes to do something else you have to say EH EH, or what ever your command is for no, and you have to be quick about it so he knows he should not be doing it.
This works really well
now i can not do this with jaws three times becuase he is a big breed and with big breeds it is not good for their joints so i just do it with him once, mix it up with something else, like a stand stay and then just do that one more time. Also some dogs like boxers have short attention spands so sometimes toys work better then treats.
mainly you really have to invest the time.
Jaws was really awesome, except for how he kept wanting to eat shawn's kid and all.
haha,, I know, he wanted to play with him so bad. He loves little kids.
yeah that kid needs to toughen up!! what a sissy!!! haha j/k
