If you were invited to a bridal shower for a friend, but the shower was across the country, and you couldn't afford to fly back, and RSVP'd no, are you still expected to send a gift?

is it a close friend that you were going to attend the wedding, i'd send a gift. if it's an aquaintance, def send a "congratualtory" card and all should be coolio.

It's someone who I used to think we were very close friends, but unfortunately over the years the relationship has shifted a bit. I can't go to the wedding, because it's Thanksgiving weekend, and tickets are outrageous. She's known I probably wouldn't go for a while though.
I was just wondering, because someone I spoke to about it seemed shocked that I didn't send something yet.
