ohhhhhh, i totally misunderstood. i thought you were talking abuot xbox live in relation to my first option.
So, anyway, you can still play on Live if you disable your modchip before you go on.
Look into softmodding your xbox too. I think that may be the way to go nowadays.
And upgrading your hard drive is probably really only needed if you want to copy xbox games onto the drive so you don't need the DVD anymore
