This makes me want to go home and watch "The Maltese Falcon" and "The Big Sleep". Whoever plays the boy has to talk super fast and smart-mouthed like Bogart.
Is this just a portion of the movie? Who's the villain?
wow! that's what i was channeling! dashiell hammett! good eye.
this is a 5 minute short. the girl ends being the villian and selling out her boy [dick] and the runaway wife. neglect and jealousy being her reasons.
anything else you wanna tell me? you know your stuff.
Ooh, so the girl is the bad guy, huh? I love that. You know the scene in "The Maltese Falcon" where Bogart totally interrogates the girl at the end? What I love about that movie is that we get to the end thinking Bogart trusts this girl, then he shows how he really feels and gives it to her.
I found the script
Check out pages 148-150; that's the scene. The text in the movie turned out a little different, but I love this exchange:
Brigid (staring with terrified eyes): Don't - don't talk to me like that, Sam. You know I didn't... you know --
Spade: Stop it! (he glances at the clock) The police will be blowing in any minute. Talk!
Brigid: (Puts the back of her hand to her forehead) Oh, why do you accuse me of such terrible...?
Spade: (very low - impatient) This isn't the time for that school girl act, with both of us standing under the gallows! ...
It's such a great scene. I love the way she plays with him until she realizes she can't get out of his accusations, then gets totally stiff and professional. Such good acting.
