Hold on a second buddy. Do you notice baseball players get hurt? Some guys play hurt all year. 162 games is ALOT! They may not be slamming their bodies into other bodies on a regular basis, but there are collisions all the time. I went to a Mets game last year and watched Nick Johnson of the Nationals break his leg landing weird diving for a ball. There may be more physical exertion in football, but it takes more talent to play baseball. Most football players are huge and can't move that well besides the guys who receive the ball or the quarterback. Watch a guy like Jose Reyes play defense, stretch a double into a triple, or steal a base. It's the most exciting thing you can watch other than a guy with tremendous speed running into an end zone.
As far as "passion" goes, I think JP is saying the history is much richer than any other sport. Generation after generation in this country has its roots with baseball. Football has not become what it is now up until recently. Nowadays baseball is just a regional game. In the northeast it is the most popular sport. You go down south or the midwest and its all about football. And I guess you haven't been in the Yankee Stadium bleechers with the "Bleecher Creatures". They are the most insane fans I've ever seen.
But we all have our likes and dislikes. To each their own.
i can understand this except for the part about most guys are huge and can't move well... that's definitely not true
that's one of the things that makes football crazy, you have these giant guys that are strong and fast too. for instance i remember warren sapp when he came in the league, here is his profile from nfl.com
4.83 in the 40-yard dash … 520-pound bench press … 700-pound squat; … 410-pound power clean … 34-inch vertical jump … 9-foot-9 broad jump … 32-inch arm length … 9¼-inch hands … Right-handed.
4.83 seconds in the 40?!? that's insane. i doubt i can run it that fast and the guy has 130 pounds on me. plus look how strong he is. and there's lots of guys like that
A lot of these defensive linemen have guts that stick out a mile. There's no way they run faster than me or you. And that's also what you get when you are on steroids.
HA! IG-NANT! you really no othing about football. plus there is way more talk in the media about baseball players on steroids than there is about football players. and at least if the football players get caught, they get in trouble (either fined, suspended or both). in baseball they just talk about weather or not the actually did it for a few years and nothing really ever happens with it until someone writes a book about 5 years later.
How am I ignorant? There's no way a fat guy like that is outrunning me. I could see a guy who is all muscle killing me, but not someone pushing 400 pounds.
Football just isn't in the limelight about it. I'm sure it is rampant. HGH (human growth hormone) is undetectable as well as many other things. I'm sure plenty of players in the NFL are on it.
they can run faster than you... some of them are out of shape but not the good players. these guys run miles and miles every day. Check out this guy, walter thomas... 6'4", almost 400 pounds and he can do a backflip! i'd like to see you try that buddy
I'm not talking about guys who are in good shape. I'm talking about the guys with huge pot bellies. I watched a guy with one run, and a turtle could run faster than he did. He somehow ended up with the ball and was making a run for the end zone. A guy in much better shape ran from half a field away and tackled him. Was the most hilarious thing I ever saw.
yeah, but that big fat guy can still run faster than you.
Uh... No.
uh...yes. he definately can. and not even because he is that fast, but just because you are fat and slow.
I'm fast enough to chase you down and break your neck.
HAHA! you wish. even if i did let you catch me, im a crazy little son of a gun. you would have a tough time with that.
hahaha.... you guys are so retarded
Haha... It's like sibling rivalry and we aren't even brothers. I love it!
i know, you have more of a rivalry with alex than i do. i feel left out!
Haha.. Ian laughed at us one day at the Hall about how we treat each other.
believe it or not, they do. watch the nfl combine if you don't believe me.
and the nfl has a way stricter policy and testing against steroids than mlb. THAT is a fact.
yes to each his own. just don't say that it takes more talent to play baseball than football. it just simply isn't true.
"Most football players are huge and can't move that well." this is the dumbest thing i have ever heard. there is nobady on a football team that isn't athletic. even the guys that are over three hundred pounds can run faster than the average person. warren sapp the famous defensive tackel, who is well over 300 pounds can run the 40 in under 5 seconds. that's probably faster than a lot of baseball players. the reason baseball players get hurt is because they are not well conditioned. they are the most unathletic athletes on the planet.
Hitting a spherical object with a cylindrical one is harder than anything in sports. Sorry, the laws of physics disagree with you.
Uh, Jose Reyes? Duh! Faster than any guy you can throw at him. And who is out of shape in baseball? David Wells? There are a select few who are fat bums.
just shut up about your stupid physics. nobody cares. give me 100 times to hit a baseball thrown by a professional pitcher, and i bet i will eventually hit one, and i ma not even a professional athlete.
LOL!! 1 for 100. That's hardly pro material. Haha...
what? that's not the point, moron. anyway, i would bet money that cant run the forty yard dash in under 6 seconds.
I probably can't run it in 10 right now. I'd be hobbling. I never was fast anyway.
i bet deion sanders in his prime was faster... they said he was the fastest man on the planet.
i bet michael vick is faster
He runs to first in just over 3 seconds. Distance, 30 yards.
