you guys do realize that baseball is for sucks, right?

jp Jul 3, 2007

i actually kind of like that a lot of people are like, oh, baseball is boring to watch, blah blah blah...because it kind of makes it so that everyone who is a baseball fan is passionate about baseb...

alex Jul 5, 2007

this is so dumb. "baseball fans are passionate about their sport." football fans are just as if not more "passionate" about football. that's why people paint their body's their teams color, or get ...

jp Jul 5, 2007

more people dont like baseball...actually i admitted that. i think espn did a survey of sports fans, and like 94% of sports fans were NFL fans, while around 82% were MLB fans. and also, the yankees...

A
alexOG 2001

yes but do you notice that all of the "incredible moments" are home runs. it's a tad redundant if you ask me. i mean how many times can you watch a guy hit a ball with a stick.

B
brothermanOG 2004

A triple is the most exciting hit in baseball. They are the rarest extra base hit you can get. There are plenty of exciting moments other than home runs.

1. Jackie Robinson stealing home.
2. Luis Gonzalez hitting a bloop rbi single off Mariano Rivera to win the 2001 World Series.
3. Endy Chavez making a game saving catch of a home run ball in Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS. (A shame the Mets lost after that gem)
4. Don Larsen pitching a perfect game in the 1956 World Series.

I could make a never ending list.

Ok, how many times can you watch a guy catch an elliptical ball or a bunch of guys running into each other? Baseball players aren't hitting a straight pitch each time. They are hitting balls that start out straight, then dive into the dirt. They hit balls that start at 12 oclock and curve to 6 oclock. They hit balls that start inside, then slide over to hit the corner of the plate. Then there is the knuckleball that dances all over. Like I said, much more skill is required to do that than catch a pigskin or run towards an end zone. The quarterback is the only guy on the team who has any truly amazing skill. They are like a pitcher, having to hit their spots. Running around is nothing more than conditioning. Guys like Emmitt Smith did what they did, because they were in phenominal shape. Hand-eye coordination is the most difficult skill to master.

A
alexOG 2001

wow, you are truly ignorant. i guess it doesn't take any truly amazing skill to do this...http://youtube.com/watch?v=U-szKE2FXDQ

and that is all just offense.

wow barry sanders makes it look so easy!

B
brothermanOG 2004

Cmon, who's the ignorant one... So basically you are telling me it would take more skill to run, than to hit a ball 2 3/4" diameter coming in sometimes at 98mph or arcing or diving. Please son... Ted Williams being able to hit .400 during 2 seasons of his career is harder than running. I'm not saying you don't need skill to play football, but cmon. You can't compare the two things.

A
alexOG 2001

just shut up. i am not arguing with you about this any more. you are dense, it's ridiculous. you know less about sports than anyone i have ever talked to. good day sir...I SAID GOOD DAY...sir!

B
brothermanOG 2004

Ok... I think any rational sports analyst will tell you hitting 98-100 mph pitches is harder than anything else. Sorry dude. Not saying what football players do is easy, but anything requiring hand-eye coordination is harder than running. Certainly requires more physical exertion to run, but being able to see a spherical object well enough coming in at high velocities and nasty curvatures and then hitting them with a cylinder is extremely difficult. I could train myself to run faster and make quick turns much easier than hitting .400.

But I'm glad you used a Willy Wonka line, because he has a fro too. LOL!

A
alexOG 2001

yeah you are right. football doesn't require hand eye coordination. i am wrong about everything. you have changed my mind. i now agree with you about baseball not being a mind numbingly boring sport for homosexuals.

B
brothermanOG 2004

Hey, I said the Q*Back is like a pitcher. Definitely requires hand-eye coordination. But running is considered conditioning, not skill. Being able to dodge people is skillful in a way, but being able to move that quickly depends on how conditioned your body is. Like me for example, with my knee I could never do that. And if I did, I wouldn't be able to move for days.

There is a difference between conditioning and skill.

A
alexOG 2001

no no no, you are absolutely right. that makes PERFECT sense. i am now convinced! baseball is harder to play than football.

i just have one question though... if football doesn't require lot's of skill to play, why do you stink at it so bad?

B
brothermanOG 2004 alex

I just said HITTING is harder. The other aspects are similiar to football. Catching, throwing, running, etc.

Hey at least I got hurt like a man playing football. That's why my knee is the way it is. Otherwise I'd be mowing you over.

A
alexOG 2001 brotherman

i'm sure you would.

and yes, the other aspects of baseball are very similar to football. they are almost IDENTICAL!

B
brothermanOG 2004 alex

Although... A baseball does come in much more sharply to a fielder than a football does to a receiver. Haha...

A
alexOG 2001 brotherman

HAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! *tears* oooh you! you are such a stitch.

jp jpOG 2003

i dont think anyone ever said it didnt take talent to play football...i know that, barry sanders is my favorite football player ever.

also, the reason home runs are so exciting is because they're hard to hit. the BEST hitters only get hits 30% of the time. the best home run hitters hit a home run about 5% of the time. also, not all the plays were home runs. one of the plays i mentioned was one where knoblauch busted it around the bases and scored on a close play at home to win the game.

dan, youre a mets fan...you remember rey ordonez im guessing? guy couldnt hit, but he played some amazing D. defense is more exciting to me, well, except a game winning hit in the world series maybe.

i thought youtube was supposed to have a lot of videos. it stinks. i cant even find some of the great plays. my brain is a better youtube, i just cant show it to you.

B
brothermanOG 2004

Reyes has made Ordonez a forgotten scrub. Haha... The one thing I remember Ordonez for was his first year, he made a bullet throw to the plate from shallow left field while down on his knees. Other than that, Reyes does a better job than him at SS, because Ordonez made great plays, but would botch the routine ones.

A
alexOG 2001

well brotherman did say the qb is the only one on the team with any true skill. that is just plain ignorant. but either way, i am not talking about it any more. it is a dumb argument.

B
brothermanOG 2004

It's certainly harder to throw to guys on the run with precision, than catching a ball and running. Again, hand-eye coordination. Sorry... You lose. ;oP

A
alexOG 2001

yup you are right. i am convinced.

A
alexOG 2001

and you are also correct about the whole hand i coordination thing. playing football does not require hand-eye coordination. you know like catching and stuff, or making interceptions. you are not an idiot.

B
brothermanOG 2004

It's not quite the same catching a ball vs hitting or throwing on target. And I'll tell you why. I am excellent at tracking down fly balls, it's second nature or instinct. Hitting, you go into slumps and can display bad mechanics, same with throwing. So catching and running is not the same.

Ordonez was a freak. I loved the plays he made
