ohhh, nooo. you have to get it fixed.
i think i'll be fine. today the swelling is down even more... and I was able to lift my leg, woohoo! and i have an appt. with an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow to assess the damage. I'm very hopeful.
me too!!!
did it swell up like crazy right after it happened? when i tore my ACL my knee swelled up like mad immediately after. that's because if you tear a ligament it starts bleeding, and all of that blood goes into your knee.
yeah it swelled up pretty bad.. but today the swelling went down even more, and i can lift my leg, and i can bend my knee pretty far. I duno i just keep hoping i won't need surgery.
well even if your ACL is torn, which it doesn't sound like it is, you may not even need surgery. the ACL will never heal by itself if it is totally torn, but plenty of people get by without getting the surgery.
how exactly did you hurt yourself, and which part of your knee did you hurt?
i either got kicked, tripped on something, or just lost my footing, at a concert. my kneecap popped out of place and was on the side of my leg. I popped it back in. Stood up. couldn't walk. got carried out. Oh yeah, that was fun.
you feeling a little better? and whens your ortho appt again?
yeah it's a little better, ortho appt. is today. woot.
Anyone who is young and plans on being active, needs an ACL. You can't play sports without it.
yeah you can. if you strengthen your quads and hamstrings enough they will compensate for it. but the risk of injuring something else is greater if you don't get surgery, and you can't play sports super hardcore without an ACL.
Its a stabilizing ligament. Without it you can lose balance more easily and yes hurt something else.
i don't think stabilizing ligament is a technical term. anyway most people don't play a lot of sports so the surgery would not be worth it for them, because of the down time and the rehab. it's like 6 to 9 months before you can be pretty active again.
I'm just telling you what my doctor told me. Without ligaments like an ACL, your knee is no longer stable. I think Jah put it there for a reason. Its not like it's a spare part.
we have plenty of parts we don't need. like the appendix, or the tonsils.
so are you saying that because drs tell us that we dont need them means that jeh just was bored and threw a few spare parts into us just for the fun of it?
no, all im saying is that you can live without them. i would get the surgery because i like to play sports. a lot. most people don't play a lot of sports though, so the surgery might not be worth it for them. there is a lot of down time and rehab involved, that some people do not have the time for. some people can't afford to take that much time off...
so sit and rotate!
You can live without it, but any sports or activities that require pivoting and quick movements become difficult thereafter and you will mess up the bone structure of your knee over time.
yeah, that exactly what i said dum dum. do you even read other peoples posts before you start arguing with them?
I simplified it young one. I figured thats what you said, but you may have made it sound to some that you don't need an ACL at all. It has its purpose.
thanks, old one!
lol and what is the technical term Doogie Howser??
i think chris chelios played for a whole season without any ligaments in one of his knees
