Hey can anyone recommend a reputable online backup system? Like mozy.com where I can upload things to back them up. I like the idea of off-site storage.

Anything your jobs are using, that I can trust?

Thanks
Kamila

Dear Kamila,

Are you looking for something that is completely free? Or are you willing to pay a bit?

I believe Microsoft's SkyDrive is free: http://skydrive.live.com However, it's not really designed for backups, but you could certainly use it for that.

There's also Microsoft's Live Mesh www.mesh.com which is similar.

And you could try to get into the Dropbox beta: http://www.getdropbox.com it's supposed to be really cool.

Those are all free.

If you're willing to pay, I'd recommend Jungle Disk which uses Amazon's online storage solution http://www.jungledisk.com It's $20 for the backup software, and then you pay Amazon low rates for the data storage you're using.

Sincerely,
Ian.

(my hard drive crashed last night, among like 100 other issues I am dealing with, dealing with brides sometimes is a little stressful lol)

No, chris was able to restore it all and I'm working on that hard drive right now and just double-backing-up everything

To "Lost Files in Philly" -

Might I suggest investing in 2 portable hard drives? The large file sizes used by photographers such as yourself can be quite time consuming for uploading - perhaps up to a week. Why not get two portable hard drives, leave one at a friends house and borrow it once a month to update it? Then have one for daily backups.

Sincerely -

Dear Super Hero,

This is an excellent suggestion. This is what I would do.

Yeah i have everything backed up to an external and on DVD's stored in a fire proof water proof safe

I like the idea of online storage even if I had another hard drive like at someones house or somewhere else off site because i could access it anywhere and (hopefully) they have backups ... what if my house and my friends house burns down at the same time and my fire proof safe fails?!?!?!?!?

LOL
