So I've kind of been a jerk lately at work. They put up these signs saying "Blood Shortage! Blood Drive soon!" and they had the blood drive while Lauren and I were on vacation.
When I got back, people were talking about how they gave blood .. and I asked them why they would give blood, when it was clearly unnecessary in this day and age ... and people said things like "a blood transfusion saved my mother's life", or "i did it to save a life".
That is completely ridiculous. I told a few people "you know we're within 1 mile of the world's first completely bloodless hospital, right? People don't die there. Patients there get better faster, and it's cheaper. There are so many alternatives to blood transfusions, like blood expanders and saline. Technology has made blood transfusions superfluous."
I may have scared a few people. Apparently I feel very passionate about this. Who knew.
