ok here goes -> bread is 99% carbohydrates. If you burned it to a crisp, you'd effectively be turning thoses carbohydrate molecules into carbon(the black charcoal stuff left over) and water vapor(smoke).
So I guess if you put a slice of bread in your toaster for like, half an hour, after you're done putting the fire that has engulfed your kitchen out with several fire extinguishers or a fireman with a hose, you'll have a nice slice of carbon left over. minus the hydrates.

i remember seeing how many calories were in a peanut in 7th grade.... but we didn't have any left for I had eaten every last one. Needless to say.....I was a load in the grade.
I had to do that too, with a calorimeter...which was actually a soda can. I guess it was a ghetto calorimeter.
