Seriously, I want answers.

juicymango by juicymangoOG 2003 · Aug 17, 2004 · 178 views

I have been pondering this lately, and been made fun of for it, but still pondering it.

Um. Ok. What was going on in this side of the world prior to 1492?

I know there were some tribes of indians and they lived in TeePees and whatnot.. but like..

why

why weren't there great cities and all that? and .. civilization, empires, kings, ... I mean Europe got filled up pretty fast and things were movin along and history was happening... why didn't that happen here?

haha i know this is like the stupidest thing EVER to think about, but I am really curious. No one knows when or how the american indians got here. There is nearly no history about this side of the world, at all..

this is puzzling to me. Anyone care to join me in this pondering?

native americans liked buffalo. so they hunted them. then the jews had wallets full of money. so they bought the huts of doom . after that the native idians of america go casinos.

obscure thought - if an advancement oriented people had migrated to north america at an early time in history, that would've potentially messed up the prophecies regarding the dual anglo-saxon empire, because there would already be a civilization here, so the british colonization would of would of either never taken place, or taken place in a very different way...so maybe the lack of civilization in north america was no mistake

there were civilizations in Mexico. go to Cancun area, you'll see tons of ruins. amazing stuff. And technically, thats North America.

Ok how weird is it that I just asked this.

Remains of ancient city has been found in Peru. It is estimated that it was home to 10,000 people ... 1300 years ago.. so that's in the 700's.

Why not in North America..

wasn't SOUTH america even FURTHER to go .. i mean they had to travel by foot all the way from Alaska to Peru and they built a huge city down there but nothing along the way?!?!?

sunshyne #8.1.1 sunshyneOG 2004

maybe bc south american was more temperate. (refer to comment #1)

juicymango #8.1.1.1 juicymangoOG 2003

you mean like, inclement weather? I duno.. i mean South America is warmer I guess? I duno. Europe isn't that warm and that place blew up with people

sunshyne sunshyneOG 2004

i think the climates used to be different. north america was previously much cooler.

This is a good question. I'm thinking it's because nomads and so forth ventured out here later and thus devoloped slower. Everything started over in the Middle Eastern area and then to branch out and devolop into what are now the European and Indo-Chinese areas. So, when they crossed the Berring Strait the nomads had such a broad area to cover they just kinda pushed on and didn't set up shop like those in Europe, the Middle East and China did. Thats what common sense is telling me. I could be dead wrong.

I have similar thoughts. Huge mass of land, hard to civilize if you keep migrating from place to place for food, shelter. Different rate of births possibly due to culture. Also no slavery, it seems sometimes man doesn't civilize if its not at someone else's cost.

However, the Bering Land Bridge is a rough theory to agree with. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bering_land_bridge

10,000 to 20,000 years ago?

Maybe those canoes are built better than we thought :)

thatdarngirl #5.1.1 thatdarngirlOG 2002

Naw, I just think they have the years wrong. Have you ever seen a picture of the berring strait? I saw one in a history book once that showed how much water there is covering it. You don't need an ice age to freeze that, I always thought globing warming and just weather shifts account for the fact that it's now under water.

tinser #4 tinserOG 2002

here is a theory:

maybe the culture of native americans set them back. part of their culture was not abusing nature, and using only what was necessary. Culture emphasized oneness with nature and tribe unities, so maybe their culture never pushed them to overuse nature to create industries, etc.

i dont know, its a thought

juicymango #4.1 juicymangoOG 2003

hmm i like this theory

thefunkyfresh #4.2 thefunkyfreshFounder

they were a very existential culture

tinser #4.2.1 tinserOG 2002

existential! point!

thatdarngirl #3 thatdarngirlOG 2002

thank you..you've now destroyed my mind of any further thought until I figure this one out.

But really..good question! Like, why did civilization in Europe that started out like the American Indians advance so far while the American Indians were stuck living in tents? There's plenty of natural resources here. This is going to bother me very much. Like..when the Europeans went into Asia they did find a highly developed society, so why not here?

hunkpapap #2 hunkpapapOG 2003

The HUNKPAPA Tribe was in upstate New York at the time. Of course then it wasn't NY...

sunshyne #1 sunshyneOG 2004

umm...there was civilization in south america. idk why not in north america. maybe it was too inclement?
