Would You Hire Me?

web-toedchloe by web-toedchloeOG 2001 · Aug 8, 2005 · 184 views · ·

The more I toy with the idea of being a caterer, the more in love with it I become. At first, I believed my set backs were:

1. Start up capital
2. A culinary Degree
3. Experience
4. A larger kitchen

I could save enough capital to start. I'm no longer convined I'd need a culinary degree or experience. I'm positive I need a larger kitchen, though, so this is all hypothetical until we get a house with a larger kitchen.

My question is, if you (or someone you know) were throwing a party that you wanted to have catered, would you hire me based on tasting some of my food and my budgeting for you, even if I didn't have a culinary degree? I'm getting some info from culinary schools in my area, but if I can start a catering business without the extra cost of school, it would make me more apt to try it out.

(Let me reiterate that this is hypothetical. I'm not able to cater anything at this point in time or at any time in the near future.)

big kitchens are not a necessity. our kitchen is not large at all by any means . the biggest thing in there is the table for all of us to sit at. but for vanessa and jose's engagement party of over 200 people in the course of the day, my mom made all that food at out house. other people helped with stuff like salad or a tray of chicken and such but appetizers, entree and dessert. just gotta go to sams club and buy the trays to put to the food in and freeze em. start now.

Imagine the size of your kitchen and divide it by 5. That's how big my kitchen is. Thanks for the support, but I literally have 2 square feet of counter space. It's nearly impossible to fit 3 bowls on the counter at the same time.

well for future reference, if you or anyone else redesigns their kitchen, i'll help.

it's all about who you know. if you have potential customers and you treat them to a tasting session, it's in the bag. degree doesn't matter.

if i was going to hire you, for a party of something, whether you had a degree or not wouldnt matter to me. my mom is the most amazing cook ever, and never went to culinary school.

do you have experiance making food for a large number of people? if it's over 6 people, i cant figure out how much food to make. ha

Wow i never even thought that a caterer would need a catering degree, it just didn't cross my mind. I would definitely NOT use that as a basis whether or not to hire a caterer. A degree is a piece of paper. The actual food is what I would go by.

Pretty much anyone other than a lawyer, doctor, accountant ... doesn't REALLY need a degree to do their job. College is a scam! haha.....

This is all really special, but aren't we supposed to be talking about me?

what makes you say that? eZabel is about me and you know it. Nobody cares about the Food Forum anyways, it was just thrown in here to give the women something to babble on so it wouldnt clutter up musings.

Now that we cleared that up... continue babbling ladies.

I think you created the food forum so you could focus on all the treats and heavy italian foods you so love. Don't front.

"Why we love Rock Supastar" " Rock Supastars Best Features" "Rock Supastar Did this and Changed my Life" "Why I wish i was More Like Rock Supastar"... i mean i could keep going all day.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Wow! That forum would be laced with the thoughts I have all day long...

Absolutely. I don't have a degree in any sort of event planning, and I already have clients, based solely on what I've done event-wise in the past. When I think of caterers, a degree doesn't matter. Food, budget, and professionalism does.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

some of the greatest chef's never went to school. i dont think making great tastng food requires a degree. you just have to have that knack.

i would def. hire you!!!
