Yeah this is horrific

i find it deplorable the way non organic vegetables are treated! it's so inhumane!!!!

I did my food shopping this week, and because of this forum, decided to buy organic meats and veggies. (Except for the lamb chops i got, they didn't have that organic)

I think it ran me about $15 more than normal...so not too bad. I got quite a bit too...chicken, ground sirloin, broccoli, bananas, peaches, plums, cherries, tomatoes...i forget what else.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

i love organic food. i wish i could eat it all the time. right now i'm just too busy and too broke to do that. hopefully after i get married i'll be able to shop like that.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

I remember the few months before I got married I was living on pasta and salad because I could afford little else. It made splurging on my honeymoon more fun!

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

yeah it's that plus the fact that i'm never home anyway. and right now i really don't know where "home" is

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

YAY!!! :)

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002 ·

It's pretty amazing actually.. that they can come up with growth hormones that turn chicks into edible chickens in a few months.. that and all the awesome machinery .. just to slice heads off etc.

Thank You for my Chicken Nuggets.

Think about it this way... Organic chickens actually enjoy their life.. They are rompe'-ing enjoy the fresh air and Open land... popping out eggs all willy nilly... Then one day.. some farmer comes and cuts their head off.. Awww sad.

However this genetically mutated freak chickens are cramped, their life sucks... THEY LOVE TO DIE.. End it please.

so actually.. we're doing chickens a favor.

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

yea, but the organic chickens never had pain, even in their death. it's quick and painless. the other chickens suffer!

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002 ·

they dont know what NOT having pain is..
Maybe pain to them is something pleasurable.
They could have genetically adapted to pain.

Unless you find me a talking chicken that says " Hey thats hurts "

I WIN

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

yeah but it's so disgusting they are burned from amonia and fed drugs and hormones it's just GROSS

G... to the ROSSSS

toxicgirlOG 2003 ·

I went through all of those chicken pictures. That's really messed up. I don't think there is anything wrong with eating meat, but THAT was inhumane.

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002 ·

It's ok. They grow so fast their nerve system and pain receptors are not fully developed.

They don't feel a thing.

It's fun for them

lol

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

This forum reminded me of a article Austin showed me. (He's so against non-meat eaters..lol) the name of the article is

"Wheat is Murder"
It talks about how the combines that are used to cut the wheat are responsible for thousands of deaths...mostly small field dwelling animals. And what's worse is those animals are not used for food...so their life was lost in vain.

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

Also, not that I'm saying that vegans/vegetarians are freaks...but this particular couple is. It's this witness couple from Maine, he was trying to say to give up meat, alcohol & sex. haha

His thinking was that he doesn't want to be a "slave" to anything. So we busted out the whole "rendering the marriage dues" scripture. haha

What a freak.

He brought his own organic advocado to the mexican restaurant. "Just in case" lol

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

oh yikes yeah that's weird

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

explanation - eating meat does not bother me, killing animals for food does not bother me

i am just horrified and grossed out that the chicken that is being put on the shelves of supermarkets and that is being fed to us, the first few weeks of their lives they spent rotting in feces and getting burned by ammonia from all the feces on the ground, eating their food out of containers in which other chickens are dead and rotting, and are fed drugs and hormones - it's gross

and guess what happens to those chickens that died in the shed or ones that are not fit for human consumption, they get ground up, feathers and all, and put into dog food, and then dogs die of cancer and other diseases

it's just grossssssssssssssssss

malibu malibuOG 2001 ·

and the overmedicating is horrible. the population is so large that they cannot perfectly pick out exactly which animals are sick, so they give all the animals antibiotics. but then the viruses and bacteria just morph to become more hazardous and numerous than before. its so disgusting. i think for lots of stuff medicine is used too avant garde.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

what i really want is my own chicken farm but i would not eat the chickens i would just eat the fresh eggs

and i want a cow but only for the fresh milk i would not eat the cow

and a goat because they are awesome and make cool sounds and can beat people up with their foreheads!

and a horse, of course

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

just eat organic. vegetarianism is gross. you're going to be all pale and pasty and all earth muffiny! LOL

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001 ·

yea, organic is rediculously expensive, anyone want to foot the bill for me? yea then ill eat organic.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

oh no joke, it really is. BUT i would rather pay a little extra and skimp on something else ya know....i guess i just love food. lol

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

yeah the more organic we buy and support though, prices will go down

right now prices are so high because there is little demand for organic

but it's getting better

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001 ·

you dont know who youre talking to about food...dont get me wrong i LOVE food...and i LOVE good food. but on a budget, its just not practical to do organic. you can still have good food with out the huge price. (wow i sound like a cheap fatty haha)

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

haha well im a fatty too. so at least we're on the same page with liking food! LOL

and i dont know your financials but i would think anyone can still afford maybe a piece or 2 of organic ya know (that is if you REALLY want it) like you dont have to do EVERYTHING organic...but say, chicken, and the rest you can just eat well...ya know what i mean? its not as expensive that way. or just your fruit ya know. thats cheaper. i dont know.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

I've found that butcher shops are less expensive than grocery stores, maybe that could work for you. Farmers markets are less expensive too - www.localharvest.org lets you search for natural purveyors by zip code. It's less convenient to get your tp in one place and your veggies in another, but it does save money, helps the chickens, and helps the environment because the veggies aren't transported, reducing pollution.

katiedid katiedidFounder ·

Nah, I'm just as pale now as I was as a meat-eater. But apparently we're

SMARTER

hunkpapap hunkpapapOG 2003 ·

when we run out of cows we're going to eat the smart people

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder ·

^lol

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

my parents have gone pretty much all organic when it comes to meat, fruit & veggies. I agree with them that buying the processed organic stuff is pointless...like organic cereal. I need to start buying more organic stuff.

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002 ·

OH man.. This got me so upset...
I mean... those poor birds that died before me eating them!!!

what a waste of meat.

yummy chicken.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

and again i totally did not want this on the front page, bah

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

yeah i did some research and found a couple organic farms sort of in my area

i'm fine with eating meat i just think i'm gonna buy organic from now on

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

yea, that's how i feel also. It's not the actual eating of the meat part, it's the fact that they had to suffer. I don't feel it's ethically wrong to eat meat. The "torture" part is inhumane though.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

yeah not to mention GROSS. Like i always had an idea that they were not treated right obviously.. but... this really opened my eyes to how bad it is and how utterly disgusting it is

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

yea, i was really into this stuff a few years back, i was a veg for about a year. But i don't think i did it too healthy. I wasn't taking supplements or eating tofu/soy.

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001 ·

mmmmmmmmmmmmm chickeeeeeeeeen *drools*

Booo vegetarianism :)

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

this is more like it -

I need a farm

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

mmm, do you know how many buckets those chickens could fill?

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

i'm fine with that... i'm fine with eating them it's the treatment they got that really bothers me

rotting in their own feces ... and only live for 45 days in that environment ughhhh
