I luv looking horrible and every1 telling me the exact opposite, like @ bookstudy last night "Your hair looks so pretty." Where I'm thinking I look like a show poodle, also same thing this morning @ work... so show poodle = HOT MOMMA

I LOVE YOU! That is my favorite restaurant and I wish there was one here. We usually only go once a year, but this time Mike and I ate there Friday and Saturday after the convention. Awesome tofu quesadillas and cheap drinks.

Let's go, Katie! I got really bummed when I found out there aren't any in NY/NJ.

We go because my sister loves the vegan nachos.

Were you guys there this past Friday? I was totally there. I can't get enough of their margaritas..so yummy.

So about a week ago there was a pretty huge really sad loss. A little blind elderly sister from my hall passed away. She was in her 70s, a full time pioneer, and one of the most intelligent, upbuilding, sweet, spiritually grounded/ knowledgeable people I've EVER met. I felt so helpless but, we all did my congregation and all the surounding ones that had had the privilege of knowing her.

Although the loss was so great and TOTALLY unexpected, it's really been a big impetus for us to not only to continue our service but, increase it with the same appreciation the sister had. We're encouraged not to falter or slack-off so that not one of us will be missing when we see her again...that she proved herself faithful to the end is actually in a better position than we are. I couldn't help but, smile and really be encouraged so even after passing away her example and the fine name she built w/ Jehovah was still encouraging us.

juicymango #112 juicymangoOG 2003

so, we had the convention this weekend

In the middle of one of the last talks on Friday, suddenly someone made this really loud "roaring" sound, it was really scary and we thought that something scary is gonna go down like somoene spewing evil upon us - but it turns out, a poor brother had a seizure - after he came to, he was so embarrased he and his whole family left :( And I felt bad for the speaker because almost everyone's head was turned towards where the commotion took place, for a good 10-15 minutes, and I don't think anyone was able to pay attention to the rest of his talk!

Saturday I had a wedding, booked months before the convention dates were announced, and I couldn't do anything about that. We're going to another convention at the end of August.

However, I was told by an attendant that on Saturday we had a group of 15 or so apostates outside screaming and spewing out evil and trying to infiltrate the convention. No one inside was even aware of this, the brothers handled everything so well, and Sunday they did not come back.

Overall, awesome convention. Really kept my focus the entire time, even though I got home from the wedding Saturday at midnight and had to get up at 5 a.m. Sunday (we had to be there by 7:30) and usually it's impossible for me to keep focus for that long. I realized that with the right amount of caffeine, anything is possible. LOL.

originalsnob #112.1 originalsnobOG 2004

OMG! "Someone spewing evil upon us"
That's sad, glad the brother didn't get hurt. Man that first part made me laugh out loud JUST LIKE A FOOL.

web-toedchloe #112.2 web-toedchloeOG 2001

I remember apostates setting up tables outside nassau when I was little. I thought we should stop and talk to them, but one of the elders we were with explained to me why they were there.

juicymango #112.2.1 juicymangoOG 2003

it was kind of funny on Sunday we were just walking outside a bit, to warm up, because i was SO COLD - anyway there was a hot dog vendor on the corner and i heard him say how there was a group of people shouting the day before and how stupid they looked and how it was so dumb yadda yadda - it was nice to hear that even a random hot dog vendor knew that they were dumb and made themselves look insane

web-toedchloe #112.2.1.1 web-toedchloeOG 2001

Hahaha - yea, that's what I remember thinking.

forrestina #112.3 forrestinaOG 2002

how was that 10 hour wedding? the one i was at was outside. it was a sweaty wedding.

juicymango #112.3.1 juicymangoOG 2003

it was fun, a little bit long but actually went by quick. It was hot out, the outside pics... i was sweating...

but the bride and groom were willing to run into a cornfield with me, so that was fun

haha

we got bit so bad though, i have like 89 bites on my ankles

forrestina #112.3.1.1 forrestinaOG 2002

haha my feet look like i have pox. it was cooler on the lawn but there were more bugs. i opted for cooler and more bugs over sweaty and not cute.

fivezero #112.4 fivezeroOG 2003

I agree, the convention was really good, but c'monnn, that talk about the sea and thousands of pounds of whale blood? C'monnn. Very awesome tho. Excited to get into the new release too. I too didn't make it Saturday cuz of a wedding. It was very nice. Was the seizure when the dude starting yelling, like five times, LOUD? I didn't know what that was exactly. Thought it might have been a mentally ill person wild'n out. And, yeah, the apostates. Losers. Still, none of that overshadowed the program. Very cool indeed.

D
#112.4.1 dgiaimoOG 2003

Haha. Yeah, several people here mentioned that that talk seemed a little out of place too. I liked it, though.

juicymango #112.4.2 juicymangoOG 2003

yep, it sounded like a roaring lion/a mentally ill person/a possessed person

scary

fivezero #112.4.2.1 fivezeroOG 2003

i was like "whattt!?"

then i told some kid sitting next to me "dude, what would you do if i started yelling like that?" he cracked up all loud and got yelled at by his mom.

Behold the Abounding Wealth of the Seas

M
monsterEst. 2006

11:20 Friday ... so glad 'we' didn't have the blood fact at ours...

The creatures that live in the seas. Whales, the largest is the blue whale, it weighs 120 tons or equal to 30 adult elephants. It’s heart weighs 450kg or 1000 lbs the size of a small car. It’s tongue weighs 3000kg or 6600lbs. A baby blue whale when born is 6 meters or 20 feet in length. They can stay underwater for 90 minutes. Their muscles are designed to trap oxygen so they can stay down longer. They can dive to a depth of 910 meters, and withstand the pressure.

awww that poor brother. thats so sad. i visited a cong that there was a bro who had seizures and my freinds warned me about it and sure enough the bro had one and fell right in the aisle close to where i was sitting. it was so sad...i felt so bad for him.

ANNNNNNNNND FYI there's still 2 conventions left here that you can make up your missed saturday *wink wink nudge nudge* lol i miss ya guys!

ya know, this year we only had one apostate. its so funny cause they REALLY are so blinded that they dont know how ridiculous they look. one year we had a whole bunch standing in this circle, outside the main entry way screaming at everyone walking by, so the brothers that were attending got together and made a circle around them, faced outward and started were signing kingdom songs to drown out the yells....it was actually awesome to see the protection they provided. i still get goose bumps thinking about that.

Hmm...

Is this really new? Hydrogen burners have
been around for a few years...

http://www.bmwworld.com/hydrogen/

Who might be doing all this electrolysis? What's power source nuclear... Coal? And how might they be storing all this hydrogen without being a bomb?

I DO like most of the ideas coming out of Iceland, using the geothermal energy to produce the hydrogen.

This just seems like a slow news day... with a local company, with a mediocre idea.

flomojopoanode #110.1.1.1 flomojopoanodeFounder

did you watch the other stuff?

M
monsterEst. 2006

Oooh, sorry TJ, I didn't mean to sound harsh (but after rereading I did).. but water is not an energy source... the electricity that is separating the water is... so I am a little bewildered as to the 'car', perhaps a really long extension cord. :-p

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder

Oh, I didn't take it harshly, lol, but it did sound a little rough. anyways.

*shrug* cars use electricity. Start the current with a battery, recharge with an alternater. It's not that much different. Hydrogen can be used as a power source, but so can water. Rockets that go to space use liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen, and combine them with a spark to blast off. (this doesn't include the solid rocket fuel boosters that they use). Water is a viable source of energy.

M
monsterEst. 2006

Some interesting reading...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrogen_production

Hydrogen may also be produced from water using huge amounts of electricity (by electrolysis) or heat (by thermolysis).

Note the word huge.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perpetual_motion_machine

I would counter that 'Water is not a viable source of energy' but a vehicle to store energy from other sources.

I am willing to learn.. I would love to have a water powered car! :-)

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder

I think viable needs to be defined.

Viable as in truly possible or Viable as in practical. I guess then practical needs to be defined, too. Practical as in possible, no matter what the cost. Or practical as in possible, but not reasonably worth the effort needed to acheive it.

M
monsterEst. 2006

I contend that water, the element, by it self does not contain energy. (outside of the nuclear level i.e. breaking apart the atom). So... I say that it is isn't viable or practical, it is impossible to use water as an energy source.

I do though concede that many use the term water power loosely for more than just the element. i.e. Tidal, Run force, Pumped storage, Dam/Turbine.

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder monster

I agree with this.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 flomojopoanode

i could imagine if you guys drank together . . . the conversations would be completely hilarious, yet deep and still somewhat technically impressive.

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder flomojopoanode

but I contend that the components that make up water can be used react together, and thus act as fuel.

http://chemmovies.unl.edu/chemistry/redoxlp/a01.html

It might be on the atomic level, but I'm not terribly sure. I know the 2 Hydrogen atoms "borrow" some of the electons from the Oxygen atom... I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not, I'm just saying. 2H2 + O2 --> 2H2O :D

The fact is, though, that if you burn a combo of hydrogen and oxygen, the result is quite explosive, and the by-product is water (in a vapor form).

Search "sparked" on this page:
http://www.krysstal.com/reactions.html

M
monsterEst. 2006 flomojopoanode

¡Absolutamente! El hidrógeno es muy volátil. Así el agua se puede utilizar como una batería... que lo divide en el hidrógeno y el oxígeno, hasta que la energía es necesaria. Solamente entonces volviendo al agua justa.

M
monsterEst. 2006 iwz

I think the comments on this blog are sufficient.

His secret... water AND electricity

LOL

If I were going for a Water powered car I would choose this one...

The foundation I work for is having their board meeting today. They are finalizing a plan to move into a private foundation which would eliminate a position.

The lady that is going to get the ax has been working here for 3 years. She has the same job title as me (I've been here 6 months). She's all sad and packing her stuff up, but she won't know for sure if she is done until 1pm.

I feel like I should say something to her, but I don't know what to say. Should I just not say anything then I feel like i am ignoring her. Any thoughts, whay do you say to someone in this situation?

web-toedchloe #104.1 web-toedchloeOG 2001

Do you perform the same job tasks as she does?

coreyfeldman #104.1.1 coreyfeldmanOG 2003

Similar, though different enough, that I am not at risk of loosing my job. We both primarily do fundraising and marketing. My focus is schools (students, teachers, administrators), while here focus is on businesses and community partners.

web-toedchloe #104.1.1.1 web-toedchloeOG 2001

Hmm, I'd say as long as you didn't do the same exact thing, she must realize that it's no one's fault that she's being let go. You might just want to say a simple "Best wishes" and maybe get everyone to sign a card for her, if you think the atmosphere isn't that tense.

web-toedchloe #83.1 web-toedchloeOG 2001

Call the secretary. I think it's Mike's dad.

Bro Conway is supposed to call me, but I wanted to find out just in case. Worst case I'll go to the Kingdom Hall.

so yesterday i had the WORST lunch @ Mimi's ever....food was gnarly, the service was HORRENDOUS. i was jsut so bitter, we were late coming back into the office (which doesnt matter but i had tons of work to do) anyway it was horrible all around and i figured i would shoot an email to their corporate to complain. Anyway i was just so bitter until i sent out the email. i explained everything and sent off the email....i was quite proud of myself and was ok after venting.

anyway i get a call this morning on my cell saying "hi gina, this is mark from marie callendars regarding your bad service.....i'm sorry....blah blah blah. Please give me a call back so we can make this up to you"

OMG i sent off an email to the wrong restaurant. LOL i was so bitter i forgot where i ate. All my co-workers have been laughing all morning about it. i feel like such a nerd! LOL

yay #81.1 yayOG 2004

hahah dude how can you get that wrong lol

socalgal #81.1.1 socalgalOG 2003

Hellooooooooooooooo Ezabel!!! Greetings from Arizona!!!! :)

B
#78.1 brothermanOG 2004

Hey! I was beginning to think you succumbed to the heat.

specialk #78.1.1 specialkOG 2003

Haven't melted yet. It's actually kinda humid here, surprisingly. It's the "monsoon" season here, meaning they get rain off and on for a few weeks or so. Except the humidity here is like, 30%, instead of the normal 80% I'm used to back east.
It's been hectic getting set up too. We were at the bookstudy Tuesday night when a HUGE storm hit, and the power went out. We were on our way back to Adam's parent's house, and got caught between a couple of power lines that had JUST been knocked down (yes, a very scary thing).
We didn't have power that night at the house we were staying at, so we all had to crash on Adam's parent's couch. Very fun. We just got power back last night, so at least we have air conditioning again, hahaha.
The drive out was pretty uneventful, except that Tyler lost his second tooth in Oklahoma. Pretty neat.

Oh, and we don't really have a home of our own yet, and we were pretty concerned about where we were gonna live, and how long we were gonna have to crowd Adam's parents by having to stay with them. That is, until a brother and sister in the hall out here decided to move, and told Adam's parents they would rent their place to us for an AMAZINGLY low price....so low, that there literally is nothing in this area for the amount they want to rent it to us for. SOOO AFFORDABLE. I keep reminding Adam about that whole "putting it in Jehovah's hands" thing. It seems to be working well for us. :)

Oh, and the $1.5 million dollar home we're staying in until Adam's parent's finish their guest room, is QUITE liveable.....especially since the owner's (friends of Adam's dad) only live in it about 3 weeks out of the year. SCORE!!!!

Man, we just had hospitality and now we're scheduld in 2 weeks again. I liked the way my last hall let you sign up for it - I think I'd sign up, but at least I wouldn't feel like I was being forced. It was nice having a second couple for dinner the last time - took a lot of pressure off me... maybe I'll ask someone else again... hmmmm...

M
#77.1 monsterEst. 2006

I don't mean to be daft, but what is this hospitality that you speak of?

D
#77.1.1 dgiaimoOG 2003

I assume she means for the incoming public speaker.

M
#77.1.1.1 monsterEst. 2006

Is that common in CA too? And is it because the speakers travel from afar?

socalgal socalgalOG 2003

we dont do it in our hall. our speakers come only like a few miles from the neighboring town. now if its a "special" speaker then we do do it. other than that we do not.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001

Really? I'm sorry, I thought it was a common thing in every hall.

M
monsterEst. 2006

So.. they know this is going to happen? will they be gutted if they are left in the cold? Is it just a meal? Do you have to tour them around?

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001

The secretary from the "hosting" hall, where the speaker is giving the talk, calls him during the week and asks if he wants to avail himself of the hospitality arrangement. It most typically, if not always, is just a meal after the meeting. Sometimes the speaker says no, but most often, he says yes and brings his family. Is this only something larger circuits do because the speakers travel farther? I really didn't know that. I thought it was everywhere.

Haha 3 times for emphasis.

It sounds kinda quaint, but again, if it's falling on you again and again... we're right back to the short notice talks. LOL

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 monster

It seems like the schedule rotates all the elders and MS servants, but our hall only has like 10 altogether, so that's why we do it like every 10 weeks or so. In my last hall, anyone could sign up; the secretary just left a blank line next to the speaker's name. It was nice, because if you knew the speaker, you could take him out. And all the families in the hall could get involved. It's funny, though, because you'd figure that they'd give all the elders/servant's families a break since they have so many other responsibilities, but I guess not!

malibu malibuOG 2001 web-toedchloe

actually they just changed it. now it's there is just a long list of everyone willing to offer hospatility and it gets posted for the month. you can change around if you know the speaker or whatev but its more assigned now.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 malibu

do your speakers drive far to your halls?

some of our speakers will only stay for their talks and then leave. LOL

malibu malibuOG 2001 socalgal

some of them. but we do it for the next congregation over. 15min probably or even the congregation that we share the hall with. but then there's speakers from bethel and such which is like 1hr or 1n1/2. i've never heard of halls not having them.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 malibu

like i mentioned, unless we have a special speaker do we have that....and i think its because majority of the brothers dont drive too far and or dont stay for the whole meeting.

M
monsterEst. 2006 socalgal

Quite a few from my hall will come back for the last half of the WT. Most halls are within 15-20 min.

iwz iwz web-toedchloe

nope, it was me. i was just messing with something. sorry!

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

we don't have a hospitality thing set up in my hall either. though if i know the brother i'll invite him over or out. hospitality is fully random at my hall.
