so it's our first day in Hawaii, and Lauren and I went to the supermarket. There are witnesses EVERYWHERE with their badges, because of the international convention. (We're undercover).
I'm checking out at the supermarket while Lauren is exchanging cereal, and she comes up to me and goes "look who I found" and it's Ben from LOST. Seriously, that dude was really nice, and REALLY CREEPY. He looks and talks exactly the same, and even though he was being nice, I was scared.
I guess tomorrow I'll work on having the producers make Kate look less greasy ..
haha that's awesome!
man, Hawaii is the place to be, dude. jealous!
lol, this is a great read! Enjoy your trip, bro!
Too boring here.

I've just accepted a job with Pivotal Labs in NYC http://www.pivotallabs.com
It's really exciting, because Pivotal is a company I've admired for some time. I think it'll be a lot of fun, and an amazing learning experience for me.
Downside: it's a long commute.
Upside: they've offered to cover moving expenses.
Good stuff man!!!!
WOW Ian! If anyone could get a dream job and succeed at it, it's you. I'm gonna miss you, but I'm really, really, really happy for you!
thanks, todd! gonna miss you too. :(
the good thing is that we won't really be that far away.
Yeah, no. Its still too far for me. I guess I won't be coming to visit you in yucky new york.
haha, i'm playing. Actually, that'd be pretty fun to come visit you in the city!
Its official JP and I are going to CR on Dec 3rd until Dec 29th! Woot!

duude! nice!
we'll be in panama in early Dec. let's do lunch!
I'm hiding in your suitcase.
I want to go out Saturday night.
congrats on the new job offer and double grats on moving to manhattan!! i LOVE NYC!
So Lauren and I are moving to Hawaii this week! It's not permanent, we're going for a few weeks. We quit our jobs (they were kind of lame anyway) and we're delegates at the International Convention the week of Thanksgiving. (If you know anyone that I know that's going, can you let me know?). We're going to spend two weeks on Oahu and the rest on Maui. We've rented condos for only a little more than what we pay here.
Once we come back at the end of January, we're going to be looking to move to a new area that's less expensive, or wherever I find work.
It's nerve-racking but we can't wait to travel and do whatever we want!
WOW! for real?? that's great man. that's just great!
what's your plan for working while there? not working?
ahh we're going to see how it goes. Work on some online courses, maybe do some side work, maybe some other stuff. It's nice to not know, kind of. :)
i think thats super cool... kinda go where the wind takes you kinda deal... thats sick.
NICE brutha!!! good job! you guys are gonna have a ton of fun!
this is awesome! congrats
i know a couple wedding photographers out there, in case lauren wants to maybe do some shooting out there i can get you in touch with them :)
http://aleciahoyt.com/ is out there right now and she needs an assistant this Friday and Monday
that would be awesome, could you let us know which island your contacts are on?
We get there Monday night, Lauren will probably not QUITE be ready to work yet, but this would be a great way to get her busy and working so I can sit back and watch!
So I got 3 job offers last week. I'll be accepting a job in NYC today!
As to where we're gonna live, we'll see if we can swing it in Manhattan. It could be tough, but, hey, we could make it work for a year or so! After that, who knows. But we have until January to decide where we'll live.
And I'm consulting for the company that wanted me to move to CT, so I'm still getting paid. Going on vaca to Costa Rica and Panama for two weeks at the end of the month.
Not bad!
that's awesome!!
congrats ian, i knew you would find a job right away. That's exciting that you may be moving to NYC! very cool
thanks, matt!
Awesome!
GOOOD stuff brutha!!! congrats! im sure you guys are gonna love it there
You're not allowed to use "brutha" twice in one day.

Ian, these ads suck. They block off the reply icon.
what ads? i took them off a long time ago
Some Netflix ad
hm, i guess i didn't take them off
So, it's official: I'm NOT moving to Connecticut.
I decided the job wasn't for me, so I declined their offer. I've been interviewing with a bunch of companies based in Manhattan. Hopefully I'll have an offer today or tomorrow!
Yeah, probably for the best. I can't live without you! ;oP
haha, well, we'll probably be moving closer to NYC. no way i can do an hour and a half train ride each way every day
Why not? Just sleep.
ugggg
where are you looking with less than an hour to commute that won't be super expensive?
this is awesome, hope it all works out!!
You know it's going to be a long day when 2 women totally destroy you verbally in less than 12 hrs. I should have been a hermit in Montana and lived off elk and berries... LOL
hey you...how're you doing? how are the kiddies?
I'm doing good. Kids are the same, lil brats... I mean bundles of joy. LOL
an accident? having a kid at 60, that's an accident. having a piano fall on you from 17 stories, that's just bad luck.
Where can I go to have the latter happen to me? LOL
if we dressed up for things, i would dress up as The Walk Home

any tivo gurus out there? I'm thinking about getting rid of my home dvr and getting tivo, I've heard a lot of good things about it, and i'd rather not have a monthly bill. What is a good HD tivo to get for the money? Is this a good one?
highly recommend the TiVo HD.
if you're buying one used, see if you can find one that includes a Lifetime Subscription. if you don't get that, you have to pay a monthly fee. you can also purchase a lifetime subscription from TiVo, i think.
isn't there an official site of the witnesses where you can download mp3s of the WT and awake and other media?

dude ad the RSS feed in your favorite podcaster app (lol, that's just iTunes), the Society has peeps that know what they're doing, haha
so i'm going to chicago for a long weekend in two weeks. is there anything I definitely have to do?
I was just out in Chicago again over the summer. Had only 1.5 - 2 hour layover before my train connection to California. ..So only did one thing... went to Giordano's for deep dish pizza & beer. Made the extremely short time there worthwhile.
From my first time out there 9 years ago.. the only other suggestions I can give you off of what I remember are the obvious touristy landmarks like Sears Tower & John Hancock Building.
Oh, & if memory serves right.. I think there's a architecture museum.. could even be more than 1.. knowing Chicago being famous for it's architecture.
Maybe roam Greektown.. I think that's where I was based in 2000.
Chicago's known for it's Polish people.. so maybe have Polish food.
I think Chicago also had a cool looking library interior.
Go over to look at the Great Lake obviously.
oh man..
WOW, watch the video http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,26218271-421,00.html
a baby fell onto the train tracks right as the train arrived, and survived. insane.
lol... remember this?
lol classic, hahaha.
they started playing tooty fruity! haha!!!
i read on wikipedia that it was a prank that letterman pulled. that tray below the steamer was what started pouring out steam and then burst into flames.
haha, yeah, now that i watch it again it def looks planned
i'm in my 3rd month here in Georgia and i'm calling everyone ma'am. i hate it when people call me ma'am, but they think you are disrespectful if you don't refer to every adult female as ma'am. but i will fight off saying ya'll!
Forreste, at a party I met a couple brothers from Hackensack. One of them knew like your whole family. I think first name was Henry. Hope all is well in the South.
Back from CT!
Mikayla and I had a pretty successful weekend checking things out around the area. We got to see a lot of neighborhoods... New Canaan, Darien, Rowayton, Noroton, East Norwalk, South Norwalk, Silvermine, Wilton, Stamford downtown, Glenbrook, Springdale, Belltown, Greenwich and Old Greenwich. There's some amazing homes in the area, wow.
The prices are blowing our minds though, haha. An equivalent apartment to what we have now is about $2500/mo, compared to the $1000 we're paying now. WHAT!!! So that's kinda stressful. No idea how much I'd be making up there, but it sure better be MORE.
We really loved New Canaan and Darien, and thought we could see ourselves there. Of course, we only got to see each area very briefly, so it's pretty hard to judge.
Dan, Rowayton is a beautiful little town. We checked out the Market you told us about. So cool! We ended up eating brunch right down the street at a place called Rowayton Seafood Restaurant. Very, very good.
when do we find out if you gotta move up there or not?
Hopefully this month. It's killing us not knowing.
glad my recommendations helped!
Ian, I know this won't help you feel better or anything, but we currently pay $1310 for 2 bedroom apartment (includes heat/hot water) 15 minutes from the GWB. So uh, your current situation is good, haha. $2,500 is a lot.
We had dinner with some friends from Hazelton, PA, who told us they have a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom house that cost $72K, and their mortgage is $472/month. No joke, I have friends with car payments bigger than that. I felt ill when they told me that.
Can I just ask - REALLY, what is one supposed to do in this world if you want a house? Either live somewhere where the average family brings home $30k/year and houses are $90K (like PA), or live somewhere you can make $90K/yr and houses are $400K (like Northern NJ)?? Honestly, this ratio makes PA look better. It does.
Lauren and I ask all the time ... where can we live that we would afford a house and Lauren might, one day, not have to work full time?
Does anyone else struggle with this? It can't be just us, right?
//end rant
yeah we totally don't get this either. and real estate taxes in NJ just make it worse.
PA is ridiculous. Mikayla's sister lives in Pittsburgh and is in the same situation as your friends in Hazleton. ugggg. So cheap. Basically for the down payment on a house in NJ, you can buy a house outright. dude, that's what you guys should do. save up like $70k and just buy a place in PA! taxes would only be like $600 on a place like that.
You, my friend, are so right.
In Bergenfield (the town next to where we live now), one of the families in our hall with 5 kids and a house that takes up ALL their property told me that their property taxes are $15,000.00/yr. No lie, our rent is almost the same as their taxes. ($1310 x 12). Insane.
wow. there are places out by us too with insane taxes. like in Long Valley, it's not uncommon to hear of people paying $24,000 a year. i think at any point above $10k, i'd just say forget it and leave the state. not worth it!
Yeah, but in the end... you are living in PA... and thats a lose lose all around
when angela and i got married we qualified for medium income housing. basically they control the amount that the homeowner is allowed to sell the house for. Each year they can raise the price of they can sell the house for by a few percentage points. So the upside is that I bought a 2 bedroom condo for less than $130,000 when the same condo in the non rent controlled section were selling for close to $300,000. So if you and your wife have been making less than 70,000 combined (i think that's the amount) for the last 3 years you can qualify for it.
dude i make like 250k a year!!!! no way i could ever qualify to make it into that complex!!!! LOLOLOLOLOMG
well then screw you! go live in your palace!!! lol
argh, missed it by $0.05!
But too bad PA's dead boring.. & you'll still have to work full-time anyway, 'cause the pay's lower there. It's alllll relative.. so in the end the best you can do, is just live where you want to live, so at least you'll be happy & not depressed. Personally, I'd never want to go back to live in NJ even if it might be less competitive than NYC & I probably wouldn't be happy in PA either.. even if it's a "more simple life." In my case, this move to NYC has been really good for me.. even if I feel I'm always strapped for cash..being the city's soooooooo expensive. I always thought I'd need to own property.. like house or condo or whatever.. but, I'm happy enough renting an apartment. The economy's depressing.. so just try to ignore it the best you can. That has worked a in a weird way for me.
WHAT is with all the PA hate. It's not all pennsyltucky, people! I live in a town where I can walk to four coffee shops, a whole bunch of little custom clothing shops, and liek almost 10 bars/restaurants of all different types of food from asian to south american to european, as well as a vintage movie theater, pet stores, a museum, two bed&breakfasts, and somewhere around 8-10 hair salons/spa's. Pretty much anything I want I can walk to. JUSTIN GUARINI lives across the street from me (like how i capitalized it as if he was an actual famous person lol). It's a huge artist community that does artsy fartsy things all the time and bike races and running/racing events.
PLUS - Most of the people in my congregation drive nice cars and live in really beautiful homes and vacation in Mexico all the time - but they are not "materialistic" or stuck up in any way... no one has the air of trying to get rich they just live comfortably? A lot of business owners and highly educated brothers and sisters. Our hall is awesome. Philadelphia is less than an hour away. NYC is about an hour and a half. There are three major malls within about a half hour each way. There is a TON of stuff to do.
Our car insurance was cut in half, or more, i can't even remember, I just know it's like next to nothing, a lot of other expenses are way less than NJ, and I can walk down the street to a produce shop (or the weekly farmers market) and get all local fresh organic food, cheap.
We have a LOT of people in our territory that live here but commute to NYC or Philly so a lot of "city" folk and not back-country hicks.
Moving here has seriously been the best decision we have ever made.
So yeah PFFFTTTT to all the PA hate!!!
http://www.gophila.com/P/Doylestown/36.html DOYLESTOWN FTW
oh and we live in an apartment, it's the upstairs of an 1800's house, it's really unique and we love it, we got rid of our house in NJ and will probably never get a house again, we are definitey apartment people and need the freedom of being able to move if we want to, and the financial freedom of knowing the landlord will pay to get stuff fixed! we are still living a pretty simple life, we don't have a lot, but we value what we do have, and we love this town and everything about it. It has been a year and a half and I am nowhere near sick of living here, which says a lot.
alright, that's the end of my PA love rant.
(and btw i did not want to move to this area and I hated Philadelphia but that's just because I was a stupid closed-minded newjersian. it is awesome here.)
Philadelphia sucks... I hate that city.
I don't hate it. Just like it less than NYC. And depends what PA we're talking about. I agree, Downtown Doylestown (that's like a PA exception to the rule) has it's appeal...and I was even looking at moving there at one time in my life...or West Mount Airy maybe (Greater Philly) or Rittenhouse if we're talking posh. However, in the end.. sorry, but Philly do not compare to the City I call my home today. And admit it.. you love NYC as well. :)
there's two things in life that i hate. 1)people who judge others because of where they're from, and 2) the state of pennsylvania.
LOL
and the "pay is lower" thing is not true either
we are close enough to Philadelphia that it's more like "city pay", Chris' salary is better than what it was in NJ, the pay is better for Wedding Photographers too, aaaaand my brother was even able to get a job at Chris' company with no college and no office experience, and he is making way better money than he did working as a retail manager in NJ.
PA is huge, and i'm sure there are parts of it that are boring but you can't generalize a whole state and say that it sucks.
Cuuuuz a lot of parts of NJ and NY and even California suck too sooooooooooooo EAT IT redsweater
angry there little pumkin? lol yeah there are places that suck here too...like 909. bleck
so, i may be getting transferred to Connecticut. it's still up in the air at this point, but it could definitely happen. Stamford area (Norwalk).
anyone know anything about the area? nice towns to look at for apartments?
oh no. IANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. I miss you already! I hope it doesn't happen, but I'd rather you have a job and can TCOB than to lose it and stay.
yeah, dude... pretty crazy! new company is buying us out.
i think i'll find out by the end of the month what the deal is. O_O
DUDE FORGET THAT JUNK! Move to cali and me you and kayla can be ROOMIES! YAY PILLOW FIGHTS AND LAN PARTIES!
PILLOW FIGHTS AND LOLLIPOPS! YAAAAAAAAY
oh wait.
ghey!
I'd rather he didn't have a job and stayed. sorry, i'm selfish.
although i'm not completely convinced this isn't just a ploy to reinvigorate interest on redsweater.
connecticut? i almost forgot that was a state.
DUDE. Seriously there is the BEST town in Norwalk. Wait let me find the link. It's SOOOOO NICE
It's called Rowayton. Check out some pics.

This is my favorite place to go for breakfast. It's WONDERFUL. They have a dock in the back you can eat on.
so, mikayla and i are spending the weekend up there. leaving in the morning. maybe we'll have time to grab breakfast at Rowayton Market.
we'll def be driving around different towns in the area to get a feel for them. also planning on checking out Stamford, never been there.
i think the hardest thing will be choosing a congregation. i think that may help drive our decision on where to live. i wish we could visit every congregation in a single weekend, and see how their support for mid-week service is....
hiiiiiii everyone
why is life so busy
and why must i work
does anyone know how to be independently wealthy
please let me know, thanks
marry someone rich? :P
it's a little late for that, but thanks for the suggestion
yeah dude! what's with that. i think we all need like 4 day weekend. that would really change the world
that's true. good thinking.
Well, just remember to be thankful you have that job to go to
:(
must see....travis barker drum solo...in the air and at one point he was spinning and never ever missed a beat

this was INCREDIBLE to see live.
This was awesome! I have it recorded too on my phone... I was completely speechless when he was rotating and still didn't miss a beat...
yeah it still gives me chills when i see it.
