elliot smith was a really gifted, if shy, singer/songwriter who wrote excellent indie/folky/slow-fi type stuff. really clever stuff. he was featured on the sndtrck for Good Will Hunting and the Royal Tenenbaums sndtrck [one of my faves] among others. he's compared to joseph arthur, nick drake and beck and he notes the beatles as a major influence. he just did really great stuff. i encourage everyone to download a couple songs. give him a listen. he's dead. suicide with a knife apparently.

I am going to be honest, I never heard a thing about this guy until I heard he died. I will need to check him out, but it's too bad that it takes someone to die for ppl to take notice. Not that I was ignoring him, I just don't know much about movie industry ppl.
No, you were definetly shunning him from your musical life.
Wow, I can't believe you just called me out like that.
I'm sorry, but you just can't keep on hiding like that..deceiving people.
XO is a great album. The guy was a great musician.
oh man, I got started getting into him, how did he die?
"suicide with a knife apparently." READ, confound you!!! they're gonna do some tests and find out exactly what went on. foul play isn't suspected at this time.
oh, i missed that. That really stinks he was extremely talented. Nick Drake killed himself too
