I don't know what it is about young people today and their taste in music, but it is out of hand. What happened to guitar solos that actually had some soul to them? The days of Pink Floyd and Rush are numbered. These two groups are bands that specialized in instrumentals. They and others from the 70's and 80's revolutionized how an instrument should be played. What are we left with? We are left with punk rock, ska, and similiar forms of music that are just loud with no skill involved in playing a guitar or bass. Form some reason kids think loud is better than skillfully played music. Sorry, but I just don't see the need to waste my money on the garbage the music industry puts out there. Where are all the Led Zepellins, the Van Halens, the U2's of today? No one today even compares to these old school rock bands. The days of good music are over. Only bands that have been around for at least 15 years put out anything good. I can't name one group that has come out in the last 10 years that has even made a true name for themselves. All I see nowadays are groups that last 3-4 years and break up. And they weren't very good to begin with. Armageddon must be really close....

I don't think anyone today plays a guitar like Van Halen or Richie Sambora or Alex Lifeson or Jimmie Page. And you know what, that paints the picture of a truly magnificent rock n roll band. Just about all the rock I hear today is just loud with no truly intricate sounds played. You only hear it from bands that have been around for years. Sometimes good vocals make up a little for that. That band Evanescence is decent. But they still rank nowhere near the greats. I believe the truly great bands have come and gone. An era of music is dying. Once U2, Bon Jovi, Rush, and some others are gone, what are we left with? Britney Spears? Justin Timberlake? Snoop Dog? Michael Jackson live from Rykers Island?

i'm just curious, what do u think about Nirvana? Do u think they were this god-like band that the media makes them out to be?(ps i sho' dont, but i'm sorry Kurt C was such a tortured individual)

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

I think people get confused when they label Nirvana as god-like. A major part of their greatness was their originality at the time and the utter different-ness of them compared to everything else that was out at the time. They do play amazing music but I think the different-ness makes people give them the god label.

ophelia opheliaOG 2003

technique wise, and, skill wise, that band wasn't that good....a person could literally have been playing their instrument for a year & play their stuff easily - you're right, the only reason they made such a splash is cause of it's stark contrast to what was happening around them - it was like heavy w/out being HEAVY....basically, agressive music, for the masses - wasn't too abrasive for people not to get into, but still packed an angst filled punch..personally i don't like'm that much though

starshiptrooper starshiptrooperOG 2003

ever see the wierd al yanovic parody of smells like teen spirit?
a RIOT!

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

Okay..if you think Evanescence is decent then you've heard nothing yet! They're okay I guess..but there is soooo much better stuff out there then that. Stay away from MTV..it's poisoning your mind.

starshiptrooper starshiptrooperOG 2003

i NEVER watch MTV. i just listen to the stuff my kids play ( i mean how can i not??? its so dang loud!)

B
brothermanOG 2004

I don't watch MTV. I just heard one of their songs on the radio and liked it. I don't think their great, just very good vocals.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003

seriously, live her voice is horrible....its sad because i thought her voice was hauntingly fascinating, but live....she let me down
